A/N: This is a prompt fill for Grace Heaton who asked for a Robbie fic based on his relationship in "A Taste of Money". I don't usually write Robbie-centric fics, so I decided to tie it into some of my previous stories (notably "Sophia") which it might be worth reading so that this makes more sense. The title comes from the song "Maybe This Time" sung by Liza Minnelli in Cabaret and I've included some of the lyrics at the start. Anyways, hope you enjoy it :)

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Maybe This Time

Maybe this time I'll be lucky
Maybe this time [she'll] stay
Maybe this time, for the first time
Love won't hurry away
[...]
Well, all the odds are, they're in my favour
Something's bound to begin
It's gotta happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win

...

Robbie hadn't been in a long-term relationship, or any relationship really, since Isla.

His focus had so completely shifted to looking after Sophia that his relationship with Agatha had come almost out of the blue. He'd first met her while working a case and their flirtatious banter had slowly evolved into weekly and then into an almost daily catch-up for either coffee, lunch, a drink after work or, on the rare occasion, dinner.

This had been going on now for the better part of six months and he realised that it was probably time to take the next step. If their relationship was going to continue to develop, then Agatha needed to meet Sophia.

Sophia had wanted a mother for a long time and Robbie's only concern in bringing them together was that her enthusiasm might frighten Agatha off. Unfortunately, he was wrong as Sophia wasn't excited about the prospect at all.

A fact that became abundantly clear when Agatha came over for lunch and Sophia was nowhere to be seen.

"I'm sorry," he apologised, half-embarrassed and half-exasperated by his daughter's antics, "but I need to find her."

Agatha gave him an understanding smile, "It's fine, Robbie," she assured him, "this is new for all of us." She paused, "Do you want me to go?"

He shook his head, "No," he said, leading her into the lounge room, "please make yourself comfortable, I'll be back as soon as I find her."

"Robbie?"

He stopped in the doorway, looking back at her with a quizzical look.

"Be patient," she told him as she settled down on the couch, "and don't force things if she's really against this."

Robbie gave her a half-smile, "Thank you, but she needs to meet you sooner or later," he replied, "especially since I have no intention of letting you go," he added with a wink before disappearing to look for his wayward daughter.

It took him much longer than he anticipated, but he eventually found her huddled in the back of his wardrobe behind his good winter coat.

"Well, Miss Ross, are you going to tell me what you're doing back there?" he asked, taking a seat on the ground, just out of arm's reach.

"Molly didn't want to meet her," Sophia explained, clutching the ragdoll in question tighter as she scrunched herself up in a smaller ball in the corner.

Robbie raised an eyebrow, "Just Molly?"

Sophia glanced at him, "No," she confessed in a small voice.

"You haven't even seen her," Robbie said, trying to keep his exasperation out of his voice, "you might actually like her."

Sophia looked up at him, "What if I don't?"

"We'll worry about that if it happens," Robbie assured her, "but I wouldn't have brought her to meet you if she wasn't a very nice lady."

Sophia looked unconvinced as she turned her attention back to Molly, "Are you going to marry her?" she asked finally.

"I don't know," Robbie said after a moment, "but possibly." He smiled, "If I did, you'd have a mother."

"You mean stepmother," Sophia corrected him, "they're mean."

"Sophia, that's just in stories," he told her gently.

"You promise?" she asked, looking up at him with wide eyes.

"I promise," he said seriously, "now, shall we go and meet her?"

Sophia nodded slowly, "Good," Robbie said approvingly as he got to his feet.

Sophia hesitated as he held out a hand to help her up, "Is it ok if Molly comes too?"

"Of course."

Sophia still looked doubtful, but accepted Robbie's help to climb out of the wardrobe. She hung back as they neared the bedroom door and wordlessly held up her arms to be carried when he turned back to look at her.

Suppressing a longsuffering sigh, Robbie lifted her up and carried her out to meet Agatha.

The rest of the afternoon passed relatively smoothly as Sophia gradually warmed to Agatha, helped by the interest the latter took in Molly. Robbie took it as a good sign that Sophia, though falling short of hugging Agatha herself, allowed Agatha to give Molly a parting hug before leaving for her nap.

"Well, first contact has been made," Robbie observed as he re-joined Agatha after settling Sophia.

"She's a sweet girl," Agatha said with a smile, "you must be very proud."

"I am," Robbie replied with a smile of his own. He cleared his throat as he took a seat next to her on the couch, "I know we haven't really discussed the future," he began, looking down at his hands rather than her face, "but I wouldn't have asked you to come today if I didn't see one, with you."

"I thought as much," Agatha commented with a hint of teasing in her tone, "Robbie, I care about you, a great deal," she continued, laying a hand on his arm, "and I wouldn't have agreed to come if I didn't see a future with you."

Robbie covered the hand resting on his arm with one of his own as he smiled at her, "Thank you."

"So," she continued, "now that the first meeting is out of the way, if it's all right with you – and Sophia – I would like us to do more things, together."

Robbie's smile widened into a grin, "I'd like that," he told her, "and I think Sophia would too, provided that-"

"Molly comes too," they finished in unison, laughing.

As they settled back on the couch, this time cuddled up together, Robbie felt himself relax as he considered that maybe Sophia wouldn't remain the only girl in his life.
