Hello everyone,

I'm glad that the last chapter had a, mostly, positive reaction. I didn't want to spend too much time on the testing process because I knew I wanted Brawly to get another gym challenge in. Things are about to get significantly harder for him on that front. He might actually have to use more than one or two pokemon.

I also saw some reviews of the last chapter when Erika said "shut the front door". I should have clarified that this is an American saying that means "Shut the fuck up!". Like she was surprised. It wasn't that she literally wanted him to shut the front door so she could get it on with a sixteen year old. I'm sorry for my American humor sometimes.

Anyway, on to the chapter.

Reminder of pokemon and names:

I noticed them as soon as I left Celadon.

It was a group of three trainers. Two males and one female. When I first passed them, they were enjoying a beverage and conversation. They seemed like a completely normal looking group of traveling trainers.

I do remember thinking that the girls smile didn't quite reach her eyes though and that all of their eyes spoke of someone who had been through some shit, even more than the average trainer. You know that look people get? The almost dead look in their eyes when the world is intent on breaking them over and over? Like that.

I made it a hundred yards out of Celadon before releasing all of my pokemon minus Tobi. I was a little sad that I couldn't keep him out of his ball more often, but he wouldn't do that well traveling on land all day. Even if Gyarados could survive outside of water, it wasn't great to let them dry out. So I settled for mornings and evenings, so that he could still train.

Hashi, Shika, Minato, Asuma, and Madara all stretched when they got outside their balls. The little bear that used to run towards me or Hashi now looked around curiously and confidently at the world. He deserved it too, with all the training we had put him under.

That was actually why I was walking to Saffron instead of flying or teleporting. I need to get him experience battling, so that he could evolve and join the rest of the team in gym battles and become a beast overall. He would provide an extreme amount of coverage for the family.

So I was walking from Celadon to Saffron, and I was going to engage every single trainer I could.

And that was what I did. Anyone that was a one to two badge trainer, Asuma battled. Anyone three, four, or five bages, the rest of my team got to go wild on.

The entire time, I kept Shika by my side. Every once in a while, she would glance into the trees and see our stalkers. So far, I knew of a houndoom and a mightyena through our team link, courtesy of Minato. I knew that by the end of the day, I would have to deal with who I assumed was Team Rocket.

I should have been scared, but instead my heart rate picked up slightly and my muscles clenched. Something that didn't happen for all of the other battles I had participated in throughout the day.

"Dude, you're tough." A boy of about twenty-two told me. He claimed he was a five-badge trainer. His pidgeot was a monster, there was no doubt about that, but Hashi's use of steel and electric punches had long since surpassed type advantages.

"Thanks, we train pretty hard." I told the boy as I accepted the cash from the match. That was another reason for my wanting to battle my way to Saffron. The lump sums a trainer got from gyms was more than enough to build up a bank account, but I wanted to see how my peers stacked up nowadays.

So far, they didn't.

It was around four in the afternoon when I met the last trainer on the trail. I had been undefeated all day. That was when I decided that enough was enough for my stalkers. I had actually been thinking that they wanted me to travel into the forest to confront them. I was willing to oblige them, of that there was no doubt.

I wasn't willing to do it without letting someone know.

So I sent out a mass text through my pokegear. Professor Oak, Daisy Oak, and the Ace Trainer Troy all got the message and coordinates.

Then I turned and strode off into the woods, off of the beaten path that led from Celadon to Saffron. I didn't see hair or hide of any people or pokemon for a while. It was around an hour later, of constantly traveling deeper that I came across a clearing.

It was about two hundred yards long, and fifty yards wide. Perfect for a meeting just as this.

The three trainers laid on the ground lazily. A total of six pokemon mirrored them. Two each.

Houndoom and Mightyena for the woman.

Jolteon and a fucking hippowdon for one of the men.

Machamp and finally, a blastoise for the last man.

Immediately I returned Asuma and clipped his ball on my belt. I couldn't help but think I might have underestimated my opponents this time. I just hoped someone would have shown up by now. I was wrong.

"I'm surprised you actually came." It was the woman who spoke first. At the same time, she released another pokemon. An exeggutor materialized into the world. I couldn't help but glance down at her belt. She had another three pokeballs sitting there. I hoped she wouldn't release them.

"Trainers these days don't have a sense of danger, it seems." The man with the machamp and blastoise said as he stood up. He too had another pokeball in his hands.

The two men released new pokemon at the same time. An Alolan ninetails from the one who had yet to speak, and finally a fucking Steelix for the man with a starter.

I released Tobirama immediately, and started thinking. All of their eyes widened, at the sight of him and gave me time to develop a plan.

A yellow beam started to form in Tobi's mouth at my command. I needed to cut down on the numbers against me, and what better way to do that, then a hyper beam?

What I didn't expect was the Steelix to move forward, in front of everyone.

I'd only ever seen a hyper beam a few times. It was completely different being right next to a pokemon that was firing one.

The world exploded into a bright white light, as Tobi let it loose. Against ninety-five percent of pokemon, the hyper beam would have turned them to dust. But not the tank that was steelix. It just lowered its head with a roar. It's tail stabbed into the ground for stability, and it didn't move once the impact happened.

I was so shocked that I barely got out another command.

Madara released a flamethrower at the steelix just as a houndoom did the same, but towards me.

Fatal. I commanded my pokemon as I realized that this wasn't going to be easy by any means.

An ethereal shield appeared in front of me and blocked the flamethrower. It was Minato's newest move, reflect. And it completely absorbed the flamethrower, unlike in the games.

Then, all of a sudden, we were on the defensive.

The steelix tanked the flamethrower and swung it's massive tail at our party. Tobirama met its tail with his own and a shockwave ruffled my clothes.

A jet of water launched at us, at the same time as the mightyena and machamp appeared in the midst of our team. Luckily, my team knew type advantages well and the jet of water was avoided by everyone. Minato hit the machamp point blank range with a psybeam, sending it hurling away. Madara hit the mightyena with a flame charge, stopping whatever dark move it was preparing. Hashi and Shika leapt forward, intent on going on the offensive.

They weren't able to. All six of us were tossed into the air by the earth beneath us. I couldn't tell what move it was because of my now airborne form.

Somehow, Tobi snaked his head. I just reacted, and my hand shot out to grab the trident-like crown on his brow. Once I did that, my momentum took me to the top of his head, where I stayed.

Now that I was overlooking the battle from Tobi's head. I saw just how fucked we were. There was a white light forming in the steelix's mouth. It wasn't a hyper beam, that I knew. Something told me it was a flash cannon.

And most of my pokemon were airborne.

Minato!

My psychic obeyed me, and suddenly he was beside me using telekinesis on his own team. Minato pulled the rest of the team towards us, and out of the way of the flash cannon. When it was released, the world lit up just like the hyper beam had.

We need to go.

I decided that running would be the best option. We were way too in over our heads with this one. I was so stupid to walk into the trap willingly.

I couldn't reach for the pokeball's on my side to return everyone but Minato because Tobi's head dipped towards the ground. A massive steel tail whipped over our heads.

Then the ground started to shake.

I had never experienced an earthquake in either life. Nor had I seen the move earthquake executed before. I used to wonder how the move would work in real life, now I knew.

The earth cracked beneath us, and then it was like Groudon himself had gotten angry. The different chunks of earth started shaking.

I held on to Tobi's crown for dear life as he shook around. Through my link, I knew the ground was reaching up and smacking my pokemon still on the ground. Pain ran through the link as Shika, Madara, and Hashi all absorbed the blows.

Tobi's massive form helped him. Unlike the games, he did not levitate about the ground, he moved like a snake. So his long body covered more than one of the pieces of the earth beneath him and he was able to balance himself on one or the other.

Shika lost consciousness immediately.

The pain from Hashi told me he suffered broken bones all down his left side. Arm, leg, ribs.

I expected death for Madara. His small form wouldn't fare well with the earth smacking him around so much. He was already in an awkward position from Minato pulling everyone out of the way of the flash cannon.

When the first piece of the earth that shook, it hit his collar, right where the feather from Ho-oh was stabbed into it. It sent the unnaturally tough feather through the fabric of the collar and into his neck. I felt it happen as if I myself was stabbed.

The energy Madara was so fascinated about from the feather flooded his form.

The clearing lit up with the brightest light I had ever seen, except for the sun. My heart soared.

Minato somehow managed to react then and grabbed everyone with telekinesis again, holding them above the tumbling ground.

Madara floated in the air, just a bright white light.

The world stood still as Madara's form changed. In those precious two seconds, I returned both Hashi and Shika to their pokeballs.

I was lucky my attackers were shocked into not attacking again, because if they had taken advantage of their numbers, the evolution wouldn't have mattered.

But no attacks came our way when Madara's new form touched the, now still, ground. The magnificent form of an arcanine graced the world.

There was no roar from Madara. It was just the look of an apex predator on the hunt for prey right in front of him. I would have shit my pants if I had been on the other end of that look.

Through our link, I could still feel Madara growing familiar with the energy from the rainbow feather. And then everything clicked into place.

He formed the energy to his mouth and fired. It was as fast as his flamethrower.

Blue flame leapt from his mouth.

It was not a straight stream of flame, like a flamethrower. It did not take the form of a fire blast. It turned into a wave of blue fire. It was Sacred Fire, Ho-oh's signature move.

If I was a softer man, I would have felt bad for the Steelix that should have fled from the move. Not only was he weak to fire. But having sacred fire sent towards you from 'the legendary pokemon' arcanine was a death sentence.

Madara didn't even pause to hear the metallic screeching of a steel pokemon being melted to death.

I did.

The blue fire clung to his body. It acted what I expected greek fire would have. The steelix tried to get away after it realized the fire wasn't going away. It dove into the ground right in front of him.

The flame didn't extinguish as the steel pokemon surrounded itself with the earth, as it should have. Instead, the steelix died in the ground beneath all of our feet.

I heard a yelp to my left and turned my head.

Madara had the houndoom by the neck in his jaws. He shook the dark and fire type pokemon twice until a loud 'crack' rang out.

I hadn't even seen Madara move.

Extreme Speed.

Madara disappeared again. That snapped me out of it, and I decided it was time to do damage.

Minato got my orders and obeyed.

The world changed, and all of a sudden I was standing behind the three trainers threatening me and my pokemon.

The world clarified even more to my eyes, if it was possible. Adrenaline flooded my veins, faster than ever before.

The man with the steelix, blastoise and machamp turned to me first. I should have just knocked him out. But my hand drew the bowie knife on my lower back out of instinct or craze for what they were trying to do me and my family.

His heart split in two, as I shoved my blade deep into his chest.

"What the.." The other man said as he turned to me.

A flash of more fire, and the exeggutor next to the lone woman disappeared into flame.

I tore the blade out of the man's chest and with one motion swiped it across the other man's neck.

The blood splashing on my face didn't even register.

Minato appeared next to the blastoise just as a massive blue tail slammed down on the hippowdon.

I admired the tactics Minato deployed. It wasn't a thunder punch. He simply lifted the blastoise into the air, very high into the air. At least a hundred feet. Then he teleported above it, and with a mighty shove of telekinesis, the blastoise shot down to the ground.

It's shell cracked when it hit.

I didn't look towards it, because my new target, the woman, was reaching towards her hip. I was too close to her.

She didn't have the chance to draw the gun. I grabbed her and with a textbook hip toss, I had her full mount.

The first punch broke her orbital bone. The second was caught by another hand.

I was lifted off of the woman beneath me by another hand on my throat.

There was still adrenaline rushing through my veins when it happened, and I didn't recognize the red-haired man holding me. All I knew to do was to send a kick towards his head.

It connected, but the man was obviously no slouch to fighting. The punch that connected with my chest should have broken something. It didn't, but I was sent to the ground.

When I leapt up, I finally realized who it was.

Lance Blackthorn stood in front of me, holding his jaw with one hand and shaking his other, as if he had just punched a tree. Behind him stood a dragonite.

I felt Madara appear behind me, looking at the dragonite.

"Enough!" Lance commanded. Finally I could hear again.

I could hear the man with a slit throat gargling, trying to hold his throat together and realizing it was futile. I heard the woman on the ground screaming hysterically and holding her face. I even heard the overwhelming silence from the last trainer.

"Brawly?" I heard her voice.

I turned to see it was, in fact, who I thought it was. Daisy Oak stood to the side of Lance, looking at me. Suddenly I felt self conscious of the blood covering my form.

"Recall your pokemon, trainer." Lance told me in a way that left no room for argument.

I looked around to my pokemon.

Tobirama currently had a fucking garchomp stalking around him. I had never seen Tobi be so frightened of another pokemon. I obeyed Lance, and grabbed his pokeball quickly before returning him.

Minato appeared by my side, staring at the Gardevoir that floated behind Daisy. I didn't expect a gardevoir to look so intimidating. Today was a new day for many things its seemed.

"All right, let's all calm down now." Professor Oak's voice hit my ears. He was standing behind me somewhere.

"What the fuck are you doing here Oak?" Lance asked.

I reached back and put my hand on Madara's fur. It was unnaturally warm, just like my own body. It was like something hit me. I started to shake and feel weak. My legs wobbled, and I almost fell.

"Whoa there. Easy son." Oak's voice was in my ear and my arm was on his shoulder.

A massive tongue ran itself along the side of my face.

Thump, thump, thump, thump.

My heart beat rang through my whole body, and I couldn't help but compare the experience to what happened when Oak was testing the mega evolution stone. Although there wasn't any pain in my chest, and I didn't feel any pressure.

Oak was talking, but I couldn't hear it. Hopefully he was convincing Lance not to kill me or imprison me.

I woke to my normal room on Professor Oak's ranch.

When I opened my eyes, I was in my normal sleeping position. Flat on my stomach with one leg over a pillow. It was the blood on the pillow beneath me that reminded me of everything.

Then I smelled the blood.

When I looked around the room, I saw Shika staring at me from her place on the ground. It was a curious look, an almost desperate look. I reached a hand out and patted the bed beside me. She jumped up and laid down quickly.

I gave her some attention, which she loved. Then I remembered she was knocked out in the battle, and I checked her form to make sure she wasn't hurt. She weathered my pokes and prods obediently. Once I deemed her perfect, I was content with just laying there with her for a while.

Eventually I swung a leg over and on the floor. My core, and muscles screamed at me as if I had just ran a marathon. When I stood up, I noticed a change immediately. I felt powerful. Like I could put the house on my back and walk with it, even if I was sore.

I pulled the bloody shirt off of my form and looked down at my torso. There wasn't a massive difference in my physique, but when I moved, the tendons in my chest and abs flexed a little harder.

I actually compared it to how my father's muscles tensed when he moved. I also realized that I was perfectly awake, despite normally needed coffee to get going in the morning.

A bunch of theories popped up in my mind, but I threw them aside thinking them asinine. I moved into the bathroom and went about my normal routine, trying not to think about the events of the last time I was conscious.

Did I have another heart attack? Did I discover some long term effects of the fighting type energy?

The thoughts came anyway as I washed away all the blood and grime off of my form.

By the time I made it down the stairs, with Shika by my side, the soreness had lessened too much to be natural, although it wasn't gone. I tried to ignore that.

I did not expect my mother to be in the kitchen making breakfast. Nor did I expect my father to be sitting at the breakfast table next to Professor Oak. They both looked at me for a moment, before going back to what they were doing.

I ignored it and moved to where my mother stood with her back to me. I wrapped her up in a hug, which made her pause for a moment before patting my arm.

"Hey mom." I said as I looked at her unnaturally blue hair. Hair that I inherited.

"Hey baby. I'll have your plate ready in a minute." She said as if nothing had happened since the last time I saw them.

In fact, I thought I would have already had an ass chewing by now. I just moved to make myself a cup of coffee out of habit, before realizing I didn't need it. So I just took a seat across my father.

"Figuring out why I never need coffee in the morning, squirt?" Brody said as he looked up from his computer.

I had a thousand theories pop up in my mind about what was happening to me then, but I decided to just let them tell me.

"I think you should just start from the beginning pop." I told him.

Oak laughed a bit. "That might be wise."

Brody sat back in his seat, and obeyed. "You've adapted." Brody said like it was a normal everyday thing. "About ten years too early."

"What does that mean?" I asked quickly. I had never heard the term used like that.

Professor Oak decided to take over from then. "That is an old term, Brawly, but just as effective. It happens to lifelong trainers about a decade or so into their journey. It's a bit of an open secret amongst those of us who survive long enough." Oak explained.

"I theorize that the tests from the other day expedited this process, significantly. Truly, I had an idea it would happen." Oak revealed.

Brody looked at Oak the way he looked at someone when he was unhappy with their actions. I had seen the look many a time in my life. Maybe they hadn't been getting along as much as they looked like.

"What does it mean for me?" I asked.

"It's different for everyone, but it normally lines up with the typing system we use for pokemon. You, for example, will now produce trace amounts of fighting type energy. The effects of that are small, but effective." Oak continued.

"Increase in strength, quicker to recover, faster metabolism, increased testosterone and all the side-effects that comes with." Brody picked up, explaining it in a way that I appreciated. I was not a scientist like Oak. Just give it to me straight.

Fuck. So it's like being on steroids then.

My mother hmmed in the kitchen, and Brody sent her a smile. I almost threw up at the insinuations. I just shook my head and refused to think about it.

Then the questions started popping up in my mind. "Is there a cap?" I wondered.

"Oh yes. You won't be fighting pokemon anytime soon. I'd still mop the floor with you! Take it this way. You know how some people's genetics just lend themselves to excelling in certain aspects of life?" Brody asked.

I nodded.

"It's like that. You're still bound to the limits of a human's body, just a little less so now, if that makes sense." Brody explained.

Ok, so no superpowers for me.

"So not a big deal then?" I wondered.

My mother set a plate down in front of me. Pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Perfect. I dug in, as did the people around me. Oak acted like it was his birthday and devoured the cooking also. It seems the anime got something right about him.

When we were all done, I decided to ask the big question.

"How long has it been?" I asked. We all knew I was asking about my latest life threatening event.

"Fourteen hours." Brody answered.

So not long then.

"Repercussions?" I asked. Best to know if I was going to jail now or not.

"Officially, you acted in self-defense. Unofficially, the league is watching you, Brawly. They see you as a loose cannon. Those have never done well, traditionally." Brody answered once again. Oak was being surprisingly quiet and his jaw was clenched.

"Lance is a little less fond of me than he already was." Oak said randomly. "After he found out about the tests we've been running. Still bitter over his altaria."

The mention of Lance made me realize that I had kicked the champion in the face yesterday. I groaned slightly.

"Yeah, he's not too fond of you either squirt." Brody said with a grin.

"Is this funny?" I asked my father.

His grin widened to a smile. "Hell yea! Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to kick Steven in his pretty teeth." Brody said casually.

"Surprised you two aren't mad at me." I told my father and mother.

"Oh we are." My mother said seriously.

"But you've proven yourself capable. And you've got some powerful fucking pokemon son. Keep doing what you're doing, and it'll all work out." Brody said before turning to Oak.

"But this fucker here is now on my shit-list." Brody said looking dead at Oak.

Oak rolled his eyes at my father. "Daisy says she's glad you're alright, and sorry she couldn't be her. Being an Ace Trainer isn't easy." Oak said to me, ignoring my father.

I groaned as he mentioned a girl's name in front of my mother. My mother latched onto the information as only mothers can.

"Daisy?"

A/N: Boom!

Team Rocket doesn't like to be fucked with apparently. And Brawly can really be an idiot sometimes huh?

Finally, Madara evolved into an arcanine! I tried to set it up like when Madara stepped onto the battlefield in Naruto. Slight different but we did get the wave of fire right. And the death that followed him.

A bunch of people will find similarities in what I did here with Brawly being 'adapted' and what MetalDargon, the author of 'Sacrifice and Subjugation', calls being 'shifted' (I think that's what he calls it… Been a while since I read that story). So I'll line out the differences for everyone quickly so that I don't get those people accusing me of stealing concepts.

In his story, the protagonist actually develops some sense of powers from his dark type shifting. Brawly will not. He will not be using aura, or fighting type energy soon. It simply boosts his physicality a little bit. It's really nothing to brag about. Athletes in our world, that have the right genetics, have bodies that will act the same way as Brawly's.

So I am not copying 'Shifting' from him, I am simply using a logical conclusion as to what would happen if someone had fighting type energy flooded through their system and didn't die but instead 'adapted' to it. So yeah.

Anyway, let's talk in the reviews!
