A/N: Hey guys, this is an idea I have been playing with in my head for a while and I hope you like it.
She had never considered mystic falls home. She was born and raised there but it was never home. Moving to the city had been the best decision she had made in all her life. Bonnie Bennett was not made for small town life like her father had been. The idea of staying in humdrum Mystic falls had been what freed her. What pushed her to dream big, there had to be more to life than living in the same boring town, seeing the same people daily, dying in that same town… She shuddered at the thought. So when Bonnie was 18 she left everything she had ever known to start college and never looked back. Well that wasn't strictly true, she held on to somethings.
Like her relationship with her best friend Caroline. Caroline was salt to her pepper, the ying to her yang. Bonnie was always the quieter and more calculated one, whereas Caroline was the bubblier and more fun one. It was a relationship that should have never worked but somehow it did. You know what they say, opposites attract. Since her father's death Caroline was the last person she called family. She would do anything for that girl, and she was the last remaining link to her past life. Even having Caroline, Bonnie would never have imagined herself going back to her hometown, not voluntarily anyway. But when your best friend is getting married and you are the maid of hour it is difficult to wiggle your way out of attending.
Bonnie rang her perfectly manicured hand through her dark locks as she reclined her seat. She couldn't explain why but she was nervous. She hadn't been back to Mystic falls since her father's funeral which had been 5 years prior. She took a sip of the dom Perignon the polite flight attendant had kindly given her. Leave the bottle. Bonnie had thought as she the attendant poured her a glass. She was going to need it. She sighed heavily as she looked out the window. In that moment she thought back to the day Caroline had asked her to be her maid of honour. She had come to New York for one of her regular visits. She visited regularly and always claimed it was because she missed her best friend. Bonnie wasn't so sure, she knew the shopping was a big part of why she came but she really didn't mind seeing her friendly face often.
They sat down in a posh little brasserie not far from central park and enjoyed their tradition of early morning mimosas before a big day of shopping. As she took a sip from her glass Caroline could not stop fidgeting in her seat. She could barely contain her excitement, like a child on Christmas. Her blue eyes glinted with excitement. Looking into her eyes was like looking into the vastness of the Mediterranean ocean. Caroline was beautiful. She had alabaster skin that was so smooth it looked like it had been carved by Michelangelo. Her long blond locks always seemed to fall perfectly in a way that made them look like the finest silk a man can buy. She was tall but not intimidatingly so.
Bonnie couldn't help but smile and shake her head as she looked at her best friend. She took a sip of her coffee deciding to start on something a little calmer. "Caroline you look like you're about to burst, do you need to pee or something?" she said with a giggle. Her blonde friend rolled her eyes.
"Ha ha" she said dryly. "I have news" she said starting to beam again.
"And here I though you were just here to see your best friend who you missed." Bonnie said she smiled. There was a moment of silence "Come on then, spit it out" she mockingly encouraged her friend. Caroline dangled her dainty fingers in front her friend, flashing her a ring with a big diamond rock.
"I'm getting married" she squealed with a huge smile that money couldn't buy. Bonnie's emerald green eyes glinted with excitement. She began to squeal with her friend. A few tables began to stare when both ladies burst into laughter. Bonnie never considered herself a girly girl who squealed and got loud but when your best friend is getting married you make exceptions. She grabbed Caroline's hand so she could really analyse the rock that sat on it. It was a stunning blue sapphire in an oval shape, beautifully offset by a round of diamonds. It had a white gold band that completed the ring's luxurious look and feel.
"Who knew Stef had style ey"
"Like Stefan picked this, I was dropping hints about the ring for months, but he doesn't need to know I made him pick it" she said with a wink. Bonnie couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Anyway I didn't come to just show off my bling bling, there is something I wanted to ask you." The blonde took a pause, she did this for dramatic effect. Classic Caroline. Bonnie figited with anticipation as she was almost certain she knew what her friend was going to ask. "You've been my best friend since we were 4, you have been there every step of the way. We've cried together, laughed together and don't forget all the arguments" she giggled as she could feel burning liquid beginning to pool at the bottom of her eyes " anyway" she said taking a sharp inhale whilst dabbing her eye with her napkin. "There is no one I would rather have by side through this whole process than my sister" she took Bonnie's hand into her own as she said this. "Bonnie Bennett, will you be my maid of honour?"
At this point both girls had tears streaming down their faces. "I would be honoured Caroline Forbes" Bonnie replied with sincerity.
The voice of the pilot informing them of their landing pulled her out of her thoughts and back to reality. She was here, Mystic falls, Virginia, home. She was hit with the hot July air as soon as she stepped of the plane. She pulled the sunglasses that were over her head over to cover her emerald green eyes. She could still feel a light breeze which blew her chocolate hair into her face. After making her way to baggage claim she made her way out to the arrivals area of the airport where she waited for Caroline to pick her up.
After ten minutes or so she sat down by the benches as her blond friend had still not arrived. She sighed as she looked down at her wrist watch, that's when someone tapped her on the shoulder. This pulled her out of her thoughts. Finally, her friend had arrived. "You haven't seen your best friend in 3 months and you still can't be on time" she teased before turning around.
"I didn't realise seeing you in my dreams counted as seeing you and when did I get so lucky to get promoted from handsome douchebag to best friend?" a husky voice responded in a joking manner making her jump and turn to face him.
"Damon." She lost her balance from turning to fast, it made her head spin. She tripped on her own bag causing her to fall into his arms. She looked up into those perfect cerulean eyes that were so beautiful it hurt. He had that classic smirk painted on his face with his raven hair all tousled in that way she used to love. Still loved. She pulled away and tried to compose herself. He had caught her off guard. Obviously she knew she was going to see him at some point. He is the brother of the groom and the best man for god's sake. She just hadn't anticipated it would be this soon. Seeing him here like this, it brought back a lot of feelings she was certain she wasn't ready to deal with. Bonnie didn't deal with her feeling head on. She liked to bury them deep down, so deep that one might even forget they existed. But the moment she saw him she knew she had only mended her heart with a band aid it and looking into those eyes ripped it off and she was back to square one.
"Damon…" she started but couldn't finish. You could cut the tension with a knife.
"That's my name don't ware it out" he said with a wink. That had always been his way, joking his way out of any problems that presented themselves to him. It was something she had once loved about him, how carefree he was. She wasn't ready for his jokes, not right now. Not when she could feel her heart breaking into a million pieces. You see, there was a few reasons why Bonnie never visited home and Damon Salvatore was reason number 1. There was a dark past there, a past better left unexplored. She breathed deeply contemplating her next move.
"Listen Damon, I can't do this right now." She pointed in between them. "Its been a long day and I can honestly say I don't need to deal with this BS right now" she finished as she started to pull her luggage towards the automated doors. He quickly followed behind her.
"Oh Bonbon you wound me" he said in that sarcastic tone he knew she hated. She couldn't deny that her heart skipped a beat when he called her Bonbon, only he had called her that. It was their special thing. She hated herself for not being able to control how her body reacted to him. She continued to walk away from him when he finally shouted "Good luck walking 12 miles, I'm your ride" he said whilst smirking waiting for her to turn back.
"Great" she muttered under her breath.
A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed the first chapter and I would love it if you could take the time to review. Give me your ideas, what do you think happened between Bonnie and Damon?
