(I have no idea how long this will go on for, but this really is my first attempt at anything like this, so would appreciate any feedback.

Not much of a story in this one, all scene setting but I hope it will become more interesting! Thanks for reading!)

Chapter 1

"September 12th, do you remember what you said?"

Elizabeth woke suddenly, unsure why that memory had risen to the surface. She turned over to check the time. 5:42am - "might as well be time to get up" she muttered. She turned back to the other side and was met with Henry, still asleep and blissfully unaware in his own dreams.

As she entered the kitchen, the television was already on, with Stevie sat on the kitchen top.

"Big day for Dalton?" She chimed towards her mother. "Something like that.." replied Elizabeth. She grabbed the half full pot of coffee and poured herself one. Henry came down the stairs. "Morning sleepy head" Elizabeth looked towards Henry as he sat on the stairs and put his shoes on.

"Thanks for letting me sleep, really needed that! But now I'm late for a meeting so I really have to go. Bye Stevie" he placed a kiss on Stevie's forehead before taking the coffee from Elizabeth and kissing her too.

As Henry slammed the front door shut, Elizabeth's phone began to chime. "Right" she looked towards Stevie "I gotta run too. Blake's outside and The White House is calling. Have a great day!"

Elizabeth picked up her bags and got into her car. "Morning team" she bellowed as she got into the middle car in the motorcade.

"Morning Mam" Blake answered from the very back of the car. "Traffic is terrible this morning"

"Let's play a game?" Said Elizabeth. Blake looked at her with some confusion. "How many things can go wrong in between us leaving here and getting to the White House?"

Blake smirked as the car pulled away, reminiscing on yesterday's hectic 17 hour day"

As Elizabeth's motorcade pulled up to the secret entrance to the White House, she opened the door herself before her security had got to it. "Thanks, Matt, I got it."

She walked confidently up the steps and into the long hallways of the West Wing. As she moved towards the Oval Office, Russell caught her attention "Bess, I need you" Elizabeth rolled her eyes before turning back in his direction. Just once, she wanted to be able to walk through without getting stopped. She entered his office and sat down immediately. "Yes, Russell?"

"Big day today. You set?" Russell had a concerned tone to his voice.

"It's not really about me, is it? You know I'm just here to support Conrad. Is he in the Oval?"

"No. He's in the room next door"

"What? He hates that room?"

Russell shrugged his shoulders. "He's waiting for you.."

Elizabeth stood up, adjusted her skirt and left through the back door of Russell's office - the quickest way to where Conrad was.

Elizabeth took a deep breath before knocking on the door. As she opened it, Conrad was stood in the very corner, looking out of the window just as he did in the Oval.

"Good morning, Mr President" she spoke softly and with care in her voice. "How are you today?"

Conrad turned around slowly. He was wearing the stupid yellow bow tie from his CIA days.

"Brought the tie back out, thought it was only appropriate" he smiled at Elizabeth as she walked towards him.

"What can I do, Sir?" Elizabeth asked as she continued to walk towards the corner of the room.

"Today, Bess" Conrad moved his head back towards the window "I just need you to be my friend."

Elizabeth instantly put her arms around Conrad, and gave him a hug. "I got you" she smiled as she squeezed him tight.

As she stood back to check the reaction (not wanting to overstep to the President of the United States) he had a cautious smile on his face. Knowing she hadn't overstepped the mark, she asked "Time to go?"

Conrad nodded, and gestured towards them leaving the room. They headed towards the door, ready for the day to begin...
