Prologue: It All Falls Down.

Stepping into her home, Gianna smiled to herself relieved to be home after a long shift at the hospital and wanting to spend some much-needed time with her husband; she hadn't been able to spend a lot of time with each other because of their busy schedules. Gianna was a Trauma Surgery Fellow while Michael was a defence attorney, they'd been together for seven years and married for four years now.

They'd even put a down payment on a house that she loved, it was in a nice neighbourhood not far from the hospital so that she didn't have to commute far for work and it meant an even shorter travel time to work for Michael. They had talked about start a family had come up quite a bit recently as well, Gianna loved the idea of being a mother and she thought that Michael would make an amazing father.

They weren't actively trying yet but they had both agreed to let nature take its cause and if she found herself pregnant then they knew that they were ready for that. Looking around the main area of their apartment, Gianna wondered where Michael was since she knew that he'd gotten home earlier than her; his keys were in the bowl by the door and he hadn't said that he'd been working late.

She stood quietly for a moment before shaking her head and dismissed it, she was sure it was nothing and perhaps a new case had popped and he'd not gotten the chance to message her. Moving to let her hair out of the ponytail, Gianna headed for the kitchen pondering what to make for dinner so that she could surprise him when he did make it home.

However, stepping into the kitchen Gianna froze at the unfamiliar sound that reached her ears and she felt like she had been kicked in the stomach as she slowly turned to look towards the bedroom. Slowly making her way across the room towards the bedroom, Gianna felt like time had come to a standstill; the sounds coming from inside making her want to turn and walk away. Pushing open the door, Gianna stood frozen watching the scene before her; their naked bodies moving together covered in sweat and she found it hard to breath watching the sight of her husband with another woman.

"Mike?" Gianna whispered in disbelief making her husband pull back from the woman that he had decided was worth ruining their marriage for; the other woman only smiled at her almost looking pleased at being caught. There was silence for a moment and Gianna opened her mouth to say something, to scream, to shout anything to express the pain that she felt at coming home to find her husband in bed with another woman but nothing came out.

"You're home early," Michael noted, his voice almost like he was talking about the weather and he climbed out of bed to pull on some pants. He didn't look at the face of the woman that he had betrayed, knowing that they should have had this conversation sooner; it had been a long time coming and he was tired of hiding the woman that he truly loved.

"That's all you're going to say?" Gianna whispered shaking her head and stepping back, her eyes moving away from her husband towards the other woman trying to think were she knew her from. She swore that she'd seen her before and there was no way that she hadn't known that Michael wasn't married; there were pictures of them all over the apartment. It felt like a horrible dream that she couldn't wake from, this happened to other women not her; they were happy, they had put a down payment on a house and they were planning on having a family.

"You remember Layla, my assistant," Michael mused simply, he nodded towards his girlfriend who made no move to dress herself instead made herself comfortable in the bed. He'd been planning to break the news for awhile but he was tired of not being important to Gianna and her being there when he needed her; he couldn't show her off and make the other men at work jealous.

"I didn't mean for you to find out this way but I can't do this anymore," Michael told her, he wanted a woman that would have dinner on the table when he came home and was there when he needed someone to suck up to his bosses for him. He had hoped that when they'd married that she would give up her work to support him but she had not and he was done trying to make her see what he wanted.
