One thing I like about Dragon Ball is the reaction of "normal" people (or those who are a little weak) to the Saiyans.

I remind you that English is not my native language, so sorry for the errors.

The daily life of Saiyans

Gohan was a bit overprotective. At first, Videl was annoyed. She thought he was doing this because she was a girl. Then the tournament went on, and after her painful defeat against Spopovich, she realized that Gohan was really worried about her. Finally, she found it cute.

However, sometimes he did too much...

The day a bullet brushed against her arm proved it. Great Saiyaman and Great Saiyaman II were called to stop a robbery, against around ten armed criminals. They were not very dangerous but, in the chaos, an accident could happen and that was what happened.

She winced in pain when the ball brushed her arm but apart from a few drops of blood, it was nothing too serious.

However…

"VIDEL!"

In a flash, lightnings of energy surrounded Great Saiyaman as his black eyes – filled with rage – turned blue. His white headband did not hold out and flew away, revealing his spiky golden hair. Gohan had just reached the level of Super Saiyan 2 and in just a few seconds all the criminals were put out of state of causing trouble.

However, that was not enough to calm him down: he looked around as if he were looking for a new enemy to strike and on whom to vent his anger.

"GOHAN! I'M FINE!"

The boy stopped immediately and his hair returned to its classic colour.

"R-Really?"

He sighed and smiled nervously, rubbing his neck. All the criminals were unconscious but the room was badly damaged, almost on the verge of collapse.

"Maybe I did too much, ha ha..."

Around, the police were already surprised to see their local hero transform into a warrior with golden hair.

Videl sighed. Gohan was cute when he worried about her, but he could still be a little careful… Fortunately, the Dragon Balls could erase people's memories.

...

Videl knew Gohan was intelligent. His scores with different school subjects like mathematics or sciences revealed by their professor before Gohan was introduced in their classroom proved it. However, she did not expect him to seem so interested in studying. From what she had seen, Saiyans did not seem to carry intellectual work in their hearts, far from it. Gohan also did not think much before acting, otherwise Videl would not have so easily discovered his secret identity.

However, when she visited Gohan's room, she did not see many books. It made her wonder where all his knowledge came from.

She got her answer on another visit, where she found at least a hundred books in the boy's room, some piled up or others on the floor and open. Gohan, him was sitting on the floor, reading a book.

"Hi, Videl!" He said with smiled. "I didn't know you were coming."

Videl did not answer. She was certain that she had not seen these books during her last visit, which had taken place only a few days ago.

"G-Gohan? Where do all these books come from?"

"That? From the library. I borrowed them yesterday."

Videl frowned and crossed her arms.

"How is it possible that you could borrow so much?" She asked. "It will take you weeks to read them all!"

"Oh, no!" Gohan said, raising his thumb, as a sign that everything was fine. "I've already read almost half of them, so tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I should be able to bring them back to the library."

Videl blinked.

"… WHAT? A-All that?"

"Yes. The advantage of being very fast is that I can also read very quickly." Gohan said merrily and naively.

Videl could not believe her ears. In fact, if Gohan didn't spend as much time playing superheroes and training, he would already be one of the most intelligent beings in the world…

Being a Saiyan was really cheating. How could anyone compete with that?

Videl had always wondered why Gohan's family lived so remote from all civilizations. She understood when she was at their home for lunch and, while she was setting the table outside with Goten for Chichi, a mountain exploded in the distance, causing an earthquake.

"W-What was that?" Videl stammered.

Beside her, Chichi and Goten did not even seem to have noticed the earthquake.

"Oh, that? It's just Goku and Gohan training together." Chichi said, seeming amused but also annoyed. "They are not believable! However, I said that we were going to eat soon but it's now they want to train. These boys!"

"Mom, mom!" Goten called her. "Can I go play with dad and Gohan?"

"No! I said we were going to eat!"

She moved away from the table, towards the mountains, put her hands near her lips and…

"GOKU! GOHAN! YOU BETTER COME TO EAT, NOW!"

There was no way they could have heard her from so far. However, Videl felt a presence behind her.

"Sorry mom!"

Videl jumped when she heard Gohan, behind her. She put a hand on her racing heart.

Damn instant transmission!

"Are you fine, Videl?" Gohan asked her, confused. "You seem… breathless. And then your heart beats terribly fast. It's normal?"

"Y-Yes! I-I'm fine!"

Even if she and Gohan managed to spend the rest of their days together, there are some things she would never get used to.

Sometimes, the Saiyens behaved like normal people. It was rare but it did happen.

However, Videl was sure that this films night at Bulma's was going to end badly. Because, even if Chichi and Bulma thought the film was good, it was boring, that Goten and Trunks were fighting over for a video-game console and Vegeta kept complaining about the film's script, making unintentionally Goku laugh – much to his dismay.

"Vegeta takes this film a little to much to heart, no?" Videl asked Gohan, who yawned.

"Probably..."

"It's very ridiculous!" Vegeta said, frowning. "As if it could happen!"

"Vegeta, it's just a film..." Goku said.

"Oh, shut up, Kakarot! How long have you been an expert in films?"

"Shut up, both of you!" Bulma intervened. "We don't even hear what the hero say anymore!"

Videl yawned too. This film was very boring. She leaned against Gohan and closed her eyes. She would not miss much if she dozed off…

"There was plenty of space in this damn boat for two! Why didn't he get in, this idiot? This film is really nonsense!"

Before Goku can say anything to calm him down, Vegeta reached for the television, which exploded. This is enough to wake Gohan and Videl and stop the bickering of Goten and Trunks.

"VEGETA!" Bulma claimed. "What did I said about destroying televisions?"

"I don't care! You didn't just to watch such nonsenses!"

"Excuse me? This film was fantastic and very romantic! You Saiyans are just rude and without feelings!"

They no longer even paid attention to the fact what was left of the unfortunate television began to catch fire.

"This happens often?" Videl asked Gohan.

"Pretty much every time Vegeta doesn't like a film, yes."

Videl could understand Bulma : if Saiyans destroyed everything they did not like, there was reason to be angry.

...

Ironically, if Gohan was not worried about his safely or these of others Saiyens, it was not the same with their daughter. Pan was only three years old when her powers appeared.

Their little daughter was playing on the Flying Nimbus while the Son were picnicking quietly at Goku and Chichi's. Chichi was asking awkward questions to Goten's girlfriend while Goku was flying alongside his granddaughter.

"It was a little dangerous, no?" Gohan asked, his eyes on his daughter.

Videl smiled. It was the first time she had ever seen him so worried about the safety of someone on the Flying Nimbus. Previously, she too would have worried about their daughter but after all this time spent surrounded by Saiyens, she knew that Pan would not risk anything.

"Don't be so killjoy, Gohan!" Chichi said. "Your father watches over her."

"Y-yes, but..."

At the same time, Goku drew their attention by waving his arms and exclaimed joyfully:

"Hey! Look what Pan can do!"

He pointed to her granddaughter, who was standing on the edge of the Flying Nimbus, arms outstretched on the sides.

"W-What she..." Gohan started.

Before he can add anything, Pan jumped in the void, several miles from the ground.

Gohan and Videl jumped up, jaws hanging down and their eyes wide with dread.

"PAN!" They simultaneously shouted.

In a flash, Gohan flew towards his daughter but not enough so that he could join her and catch her. Her parents were already expecting some misfortune but, to their amazement, their daughter slowed down in her fall and stopped a few steps from the ground.

Then Pan laughed and began to fly with ease in the air, under the incredulous looks of her parents and the applause of her grandfather.

"P-Pan can fly?" Gohan stuttered. "I can't believe it..."

"Daddy, mummy!" Pan called them, by joyfully waving her arms. "You're see? I fly! Like grandpa!"

"Yes, my honey!" Gohan answered. "I-It's good! Ha, ha..."

Videl sank into her seat, sighing.

Thank God, their child was a real Saiyan… Finally, even if she was not, she benefited at least from the coach of the best…

Gohan sat down next to her and sighed in turn.

"I think Pan will have many surprises in store for us in the future." He said.

"It's certain. Hope that doesn't make us come close to having a heart attack every time..."

Gohan nodded vigorously.

After all, even if Pan was descended from a line of super spaces warriors, she was still their little girl.
