Chapter 1: Into the Unknown

"Not Harry…please…take me instead…"

"Avada Kedavra!"

"Only I can live forever…AVADA KEDAVRA!"

Morningstar

Where was he? What was going on? Why did he feel so strange?

All these questions, and many more besides, filled the mind of the little spirit known as Harry James Potter as he fell down into Darkness, accompanied by a strange feeling of growth, strength and life that made his fingers, toes and even his tummy tingle. At the same time, he was dimly-aware of something that told him this whole thing shouldn't be happening and yet, as he fell down into the dark unknown, the only thing Harry found himself thinking about was how much fun this ride was.

It was like one long, giant slide, sending him to a different place that felt warm and dark, but also-weirdly-safe and mysterious, filling his little mind with wonder and curiosity as he slid down the tunnel, heading for the unknown that waited for him on the other end.

As he slid down, heading for whatever lay at the other end, Harry's eyes widened suddenly when he saw how his super-fun-happy-slide was taking him towards what looked like a very dark, but beautiful-looking castle, which seemed to be set high atop a mountain.

The castle was made up of black stone that looked like it had been carved from purest obsidian, mixed with the colour of midnight and the never-ending abyss that was the true Darkness in the world. Indeed, the castle's dark structure was so ominous, it seemed to swallow up all light around it, while, at the same time, it had a darkened sense of supernatural beauty that just drew Harry's attention towards it more and more.

Then there was the mountain itself; at first, it looked like nothing, but a dark spire similar to the castle itself, but, as Harry's strange body slid closer and closer to the mountain, his eyes widened with newfound awe when he saw the spire was jagged in places, giving it the look of a great beast that wanted to try and swallow up the castle stuck in its teeth.

As if that wasn't strange enough, the mountain also had rivers of molten lava and what looked like blood – key words: looked like – flowing from the spire, as well as other orifices down the sides of the mountain while winged shadows and bird-like beasts flew around the mountain, creating a ring of darkness that never seemed to end.

Harry couldn't see what was below the mountain, but, as he looked back to the castle, he gasped when he felt himself sliding upwards, heading straight for said castle where, to his amazement, he flew through the walls like a ghost, heading through darkened halls and locked doors until, to his shock, he finally stopped as the fun slide set him down onto the ground.

However, when he landed on the floor, the first thing Harry noticed was that he wasn't alone.

There, in front of him, at the far end of a long, black table that looked like it was made from the bones of many different people and other creatures, was a tall, handsome-looking gentleman in dark clothes. The stranger had raven-black hair just like Harry's, as well as a short-trimmed beard that seemed to cover his mouth, but did nothing to mask his roguish handsomeness; his dark clothes seemed to hug his skin in a tight, but comfortable manner while, on one hand, Harry saw the man was wearing a silver ring that was filled with strange symbols and letters, the likes of which Harry didn't think he'd seen before.

As though sensing Harry's arrival, the stranger looked up suddenly before, to the young spirit's shock, the man smiled at him as he beckoned him forwards, "Harry, good: you're here. For a moment, I feared I might have left it too late to save you."

"Save me?" asked Harry, his voice light-hearted, but also confused, while the stranger had a sibilant, cool-toned voice that made Harry think of the hiss of a serpent, albeit one that had every word he spoke steeped in magic and some unknown power that just drew you in.

As the boy moved towards the stranger's chair, he saw the man nod as he explained, "That's right…oh, and I also see my desire to have you greet me as a somewhat-older little boy, so we could talk properly, worked too. Nice…now, come, take a seat: would you like anything to eat? Or perhaps a nice drink?"

"Who…who are you, sir?" asked Harry, a part of him surprised at how easily this stranger admitted he'd made Harry older than he was, which was probably why he felt so weird and different in his body, as well as inside of him, but, at the same time, Harry just knew he should be careful with this man and treat him with respect.

As for the man, he just nodded as he said, "Yes, I suppose that is a good place to start: all right, Harry, my name is Lucifer Morningstar, and, well, to put it simply, I saved you from a fate that's far worse than death, albeit one that did involve freezing time and killing you myself, so to speak, but, had I waited, you would have been worse than dead."

"W…Worse than…than dead?" asked Harry, a note of horror in his voice as he looked around in fear before he gasped, "But…but I don't…I don't want to be dead, Mr Lucifer, sir!"

"Just Lucifer is fine," argued the dark-dressed man, smiling softly as he saw Harry sit next to him before he went on, "And, don't worry, little one, because you're not dead yet; like I said, I pulled you away…well, I pulled your soul away, saving it and bringing it down here to my palace, so we could have a nice, little chat. You see, Harry, you say you don't want to die? Well, how would you feel if I told you I didn't want you to die, either?"

"You…you don't, sir…um…Lucifer?"

"No," replied Lucifer, resting his hands on the table as he explained, "You see, Harry, many, many years ago, long before you were even a thought in your Mummy and Daddy's minds, I made a very special, very powerful promise to an old friend of mine. One that I have done everything in my divine power to try and keep across the centuries, leading right up to your Daddy, your Mummy and, of course, you, Harry James Potter."

"Are…are my Mummy and Daddy here too, then, sir?"

"No," said Lucifer, earning an alarmed look from Harry, even as Lucifer sighed softly before he continued, "This is why I've done what I've done to pull your soul away and bring you here: you see, Harry, I may be the Devil, King of Hell, Lord of the Damned and the Unquestioned Master of All Damnation and Torment for Eternity, but the one thing I pride myself on is that I never tell a lie, even though the mortals and everyone else under the Sun would rather think I do lie."

"So…you don't want to break your promise, Lucifer?"

"Clever boy," chuckled Lucifer, tousling Harry's hair in a way that made the boy blush, even as Lucifer went on, "But yes: if I wound up breaking my promise to my old friend, I would become a liar and then…well, I might as well be the Big Evil that the mortals think I am. However, fate and chance are funny things and, well, since you are now the last member of your family, Harry, I have a chance to keep my promise and make sure you have the power to take your revenge against the evil man who killed your Mummy and Daddy!"

"You…you do?" asked Harry, earning a nod from Lucifer, even as Harry asked, "How?"

"Simple," said Lucifer, smiling fondly as he looked to Harry before he told him, "I would like to adopt you, Harry Potter; make you my son!"

Harry's eyes widened when he heard that, but, even as he did so, he saw Lucifer hold up a hand as he explained, "Now, don't think that I am going to just offer you this for nothing, little one. You see, it's not just a simple case of me becoming your new Daddy; instead, you'll have to be changed, right down to the very core of your soul, which will make you what's known as a Cambion…or, actually, what you would become is known as a Nephilim, since I am an Angel…a fallen one, maybe, but an Angel nonetheless."

"A…an Angel?" asked Harry.

As soon as he did so, his eyes widened when he saw two huge wings extend from Lucifer's back: they were both as black as pitch and then some, but, as Harry stared at them, he was both in awe of the wings and amazed, "Wow…they're beautiful, Lucifer!"

"That they are," agreed Lucifer, folding his wings away as quickly as he'd summoned them, "Much better than the white colours of my damned Dad's favourite kids and everyone Up There, but this is what I mean: even though I am Lucifer Morningstar, Lord of Hell, I'm still an Angel, so you'd become something that's Half-Human, Half-Angel, but with all my dark-divine powers and more besides. And, at the same time, doing this will make you my son and, in every sense of the word, the Prince of Hell!"

"Me, a Prince?" asked Harry, his green eyes shining brightly, even as he gulped before he asked, "But…but what if I can't be this, Lucifer? What if I do something to…to make you mad at me or…or want to leave me?"

"That won't happen," argued Lucifer, before he smiled slyly as he told Harry, "And, remember, I never lie: now, before you give me your answer, you should know that, when you're transformed, you will still need to give the impression that you're alive, so I'll send you back to your body and have you changed there too. Of course, no-one, but me, you and other celestial beings, as well as demons, will know your true identity, so you should be safe, but, whenever you wish, you can open a doorway to Hell and come down and see me, whenever you wish."

"Does that also mean I can call you my new Daddy?"

Suffice to say, Lucifer was surprised, but he smiled and nodded, even as he answered Harry, "If that's what you want to do, Harry, then yes, I can and will be Daddy to you…Dad later on and even Father if you really want."

"And…what do you need from me? My soul?"

"No," laughed Lucifer, though not before he frowned and shrugged as he added, "Well, not entirely: I mean, I will have to taint your soul with my Fallen essence and transform you so that your soul becomes half-human, half-Fallen, but I won't need to take it from you. Your soul, your life and even your free will are all going to stay yours, Harry; all I'm doing is honouring my age-old promise and giving you the power to be a real little Hellraiser up on Earth with the humans and the wizards…so, what do you say?"

Not to Lucifer's surprise, the little boy-spirit didn't need too much time to decide.

"Yes please, Daddy!"

Extending his wings again, Lucifer rose up before he sighed softly as he told Harry, "All right then: stand up."

As the boy obeyed without question, Lucifer craned his neck before, to Harry's awe, two small horns rose from the Devil's head, while his eyes turned blood-red, and his skin gained a dark, almost-burned, devilish hue, which made him look like the true Fallen One he was, though his voice stayed cool and sibilant as he held out a darker-skinned hand to Harry.

"Now, hold still; this won't take long and, before we start, I want to say sorry too."

"Why?" asked Harry, his green eyes shining brightly as he looked up to Lucifer, who smiled sadly before he pressed his hand against Harry's spiritual form, his red eyes now rimmed with black as he began his work.

"Because this is really going to hurt, but, if it helps, just think of this: I swear to you, my son, I will never hurt you again after this…now, hold still."

The scream of the little boy in the throne room of the King of Hell was only the latest addition to the chorus of tortured screams that filled Hell.

Unlike those souls, however, this little spirit was also screaming with a hint of determined fire and fury as the Boy he was died that day.

What took his place was the boy whom would become known as Harry James Potter-Peverell-Morningstar!

The newly-reborn Prince of Hell…

So, a nice, but spooky start and I'm sure we're all wondering the same thing: oh Lord Almighty, what has your wayward son helped unleash on the world as we know it?

Also, what could this promise be that Lucifer made to an 'old friend' and how will this promise's fallout affect Harry as he grows into his future destiny as the Earthborn Prince of Hell?
