Chapter 1:

Luigi only had his beloved Polterpup for almost a month, and something was already up. He noticed that, over the duration of his stay with the Mario Bros., Polterpup had been putting on more weight. That didn't add up, since ghosts didn't need to eat, and the closest thing Polterpup ever did was swallowing objects whole to carry them through walls. Even then, he always spat them out later and he never got any bigger. This did seem puzzling, but it didn't seem to be bothering the ghostly canine... Not yet, at least.

It was only about a week after that Polterpup started getting mood swings. Sometimes he'd growl at people for no reason, and later mope in the corner until whoever he was made at came to comfort him. Luigi rubbed his chin as he looked at Polterpup, who was currently napping on the couch. "Maybe it would be a good idea to take him to a vet?" Mario suggested. The green-clad plumber nodded, and so they woke up Polterpup (Who was very cranky upon being awoken) and took him to the vet's office.

Of course, unlike other dogs, Polterpup showed curiosity and intrigue rather than anxiety and terror of the vet's office when they arrived, because he never went there before since he was a ghost and didn't need to before. He said hello to plenty of the other animals and kids that wanted to pet him. "Polterpup?" The vet called from the back. Mario, Luigi, and Polterpup went over to the vet. She was a toad with a purple cap that had a single braid coming out of the back. She wore a doctors outfit and held a clipboard.

The vet lead the Mario Bros. and their ghostly companion into her office. "My name is Dr. Toadaka," She introduced herself, "And I gotta admit, never in my life did I think I'd have a ghost patient! I'm rather excited! So, what appears to be the problem?"

"Well, we've only had Polterpup for about a month and a half, and during his time with us, he's started putting on some weight," Luigi began explaining, "Of course, this didn't make sense, since he's a ghost and doesn't eat." Dr. Toadaka examined Polterpup for a moment, then turned back to the green-clad plumber, "Has he been having any mood swings?" She asked. Luigi nodded. "Are you 100% sure Polterpup is a male?" He raised an eyebrow at that. "Well... No," He responded, "There isn't really any surefire way of telling, since he's a ghost."

While the obvious answer didn't click for Luigi, it did for Mario. "I think I know what she's getting at, bro," He said, "I think what she's saying is that Polterpup's pregnant!" Dr. Toadaka nodded. Luigi's eyes widened; it all made sense now. "Polterpup's a girl? And she's pregnant?!" He said, with a bit of panic in his voice, "B-But how do we even take care of newborn puppies?! When will she give birth?!"

"Calm down, Luigi," Dr. Toadaka said, "I can teach you everything you need to know. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you have a whole lot of time to prepare; I think she'll be giving birth in about a week and a half."

"A WEEK AND A HALF?!" Luigi repeated, panic now more prevalent in his voice. "Calm down, bro," Mario said, putting a hand on his shoulder, "I can help out, too. That's what bros are for!" Luigi calmed down and smiled lightly at his twin, "Thanks, Mario..." He then turned to Dr. Toadaka, "So, what do we have to do?"

To be continued...

Authors note: Man, it's been ages since I wrote! I hope I'm not too rusty... Anyway, this idea has been brewing in my head for quite a while now, and so far, I haven't found anyone else that came up with this idea, which really surprised me! So, I took it upon myself to share it with all of you. I hope you enjoy! Also, if you read this upon its initial release, you may have noticed that the document got corrupted at some point down the line. As you can see, I've resolved the issue. :)
