Hey everyone! I just felt like writing this today, I don't even know if it is good, probably not, but I hope you guys like it a little bit. Sorry for any mistakes, and let me know what you think. It's set weeks after 8x14, in a world where 8x16 never existed and Donna was still with Thomas. Thank you for reading! (In case you want to find me on Twitter, I'm anistonrafferty) - Deb

You said move on

Where do I go

I guess second best

Is all I will know

Donna Paulsen has always loved gala events where she can dress up nice (although she dresses up nice every day) and can show everyone just how powerful she is. And she's always loved the opportunity to show people just how good she is at her job too. Being COO of a big firm is not easy and definitely not what she thought she'd be doing twenty years ago, but now she can't imagine her life different than this. There's a lot of reasons why she's always loved these events, and one of the biggest reasons is because she could see him in a tuxedo. He looks good in everything he wears, but there's something about Harvey Specter in a tuxedo. The amount of times she came to this events all by herself and imagined him by her side, as her date, are uncountable.

Tonight, though, she didn't come to the gala alone. Tonight she brought a date. Thomas Kessler, a great guy with a nice job and someone who definitely knows what to say and how to say it. They have been dating for some months now and she felt like it was finally okay to bring him to a firm event. Something about Thomas seems to feel right, like he can finally be the one for her. It's not like she's madly in love with him, no, it's far from that. She doesn't believe she can be madly in love with anybody else other than… Well, she risked that off her mind a long while ago.

But it's inevitable. When she got into the room, her hazel eyes searched for his brown ones. It's like a force that she can't control. Her eyes always search for his, and sometimes she believes that his eyes always search for hers too. She found him, near the bar, talking to Louis. And damn, he looks really handsome in a tux. She feels her heart beating fast but suddenly a voice brings her back to the person standing beside her.

"Donna?" she hears Thomas' voice and looks at him.

"Yeah?"

"I said that we should go talk to Louis and Harvey" he said with a smile. Thomas has no idea of anything Donna and Harvey have gone through. He only knows they've been friends for over thirteen years. He doesn't know about the other time, doesn't know about the I love you's and love me how? And he certainly doesn't know about the kiss in her office. She didn't feel like telling him any of this, and deep down she knows why.

"Sure, let's go" she replies with a gently smile and they walk towards the two men. Harvey glances at her and feels his own heart beating faster as she smiles greeting them. She looks stunning. She always does, but there's something about seeing Donna in a long strapless red dress. However, his smile fades when he sees Thomas with his hand on her back. It should be me, he thinks. Harvey then remembers that night, weeks ago, near the elevators when he shaked this man's hand and forced a smile. He almost told her how he felt that night, but life found a way to stop him. Every night before he goes to sleep he thinks about how it would be like to hold Donna in his arms. How it would be like seeing her face whenever he said that he loves her. How it would be like waking up with her every morning and going to bed with her every night. But that's all that is… Thoughts that will never become real.

"Thomas! Donna! It's good to see you." Louis says excited and Harvey is brought back to reality.

"It's good to see you too, Louis. Harvey, how is it going?" Thomas offers his hand to Harvey.

"Fine, Thomas" he smiles politely at the man while shaking his hand and Donna feels shy all of the sudden.

"Donna, you look absolutely amazing tonight!' Louis hugs her and she smiles. "Thomas, I hope you know how lucky you are" he finishes.

"Oh, I know." Thomas smiles at Donna and she smiles back at him. Harvey feels his stomach flinching and decides it's time for him to leave.

"I, uhm, I should go and talk to the clients. It was good to see you, Thomas" Harvey says leaving the three of them and going to find some air. It was not going to be an easy night.

Donna, being Donna, sensed his discomfort. But what she felt the most was the fact that he didn't even say a word to her. Classic Harvey, she thought. What was she expecting?

You're the best

And yes, I do regret

How I could let myself

Let you go

Now the lesson's learned

I touched it I was burned

Oh I think you should know

The night was going relatively fine. Harvey managed a way to stay away from Donna and Thomas. He felt sick seeing her with him. If only he wasn't so stupid. If only he had told her how he feels before she found Thomas. Looking over the saloon, he saw her dancing with him. She looks happy. Happier than he's ever seen her, actually. It hurts him, it really does. But he smiles sadly to himself knowing that at least she's okay. He would do anything for her, but she doesn't need him to. She already has someone.

"I can't believe you didn't tell her already" he hears a familiar voice and turns to see Scottie near him.

"Scottie, what are you doing here?" he asks surprised.

"Relax, Harvey. I came with my date, that man over there" she points to one of Louis' clients. "We've been seeing each other for some weeks. He may be my one". Scottie says smiling while looking at the man across the room.

"I'm happy for you, Scottie. You deserve this" Harvey says and he really means it. She deserves happiness.

"I wish I could say the same to you, but apparently you haven't manned up yet. What the hell is Donna doing with Thomas Kessler?"

"You know him?" Harvey asks surprised.

"Of course I know him. I know his business and I know he's a great guy, but I also know the two of them have no chemistry at all" she points and Harvey shakes his head.

"She's happy. Don't you see? I could never make her happy like he can"

"Oh, c'mon, stop the self pity, Harvey. You're wrong. You're the only one who can make her truly happy, and you know it. That woman has put up with your bullshit for more than a decade, and I don't even know how she did it. But you need to act on it fast, otherwise you're going to lose her for good. And you're going to remember that I warned you" and with that, Scottie walks away, leaving a confused and tired Harvey drinking scotch in the bar. It's not that easy, he thinks to himself.

Cause when I'm with him

I am thinking of you

Thinking of you

What you would do if

You were the one

Who was spending the night

Oh I wish that I

Was looking into your eyes

It doesn't take much time for the redhead to see Harvey and Scottie talking. The night was going just fine, she was happy, until she spotted them. I hope one day he sees what everyone sees. Those words haven't left Donna's mind ever since she heard them. But what the hell is Scottie doing here then? She said she was going to stay away from him. It's none of Donna's business but she can't hide the fact the she's jealous to see the two of them talking. The brunette reminds Donna the fact that Harvey was never available to her. He was available to Scottie, to Zoe and even to his fucking ex therapist, but never to Donna. It pisses her off just how much she cares about this when she is in somebody else's arms. Thomas, who's been guiding them while the music plays, senses that something is wrong.

"Donna, what is it?" he asks, pushing a little to see her face.

"What is what?"

"I can feel that something is not okay…"

"Uh, it's nothing. Everything is fine" Donna fakes a smile getting close to him and trying to kiss him, but he stops her.

"It's him, isn't it?" Thomas questions her and she instantly feels nervous.

"Him? Who?"

"Harvey" Thomas clarifies and takes a step back from her.

Donna doesn't know what to say for a few minutes. She thought she could hide her feelings well, but apparently, she can't.

"What are you talking about, Thomas?"

"You think I didn't notice the way you look at him? The way you smile whenever you're telling a story about something that has him involved? The way you get nervous when he's around? The way you got tense while seeing him with Danna Scott? Tell me I'm crazy, Donna. Tell me you don't have feelings for him"

Donna is surprised to hear him saying Scottie's name. She then looks to the ground because she doesn't know how to answer him.

"I… I don't know, Thomas"

"You do know. You're in love with him, aren't you?" he asks with pain and her eyes are glassy. This can't be happening again. Harvey is screwing another one of her relationships again. "You should tell him"

"He doesn't feel the same" she murmurs. And with that, she can see Thomas sighing, getting the answer he didn't want to hear but the one he was sure of being the truth.

"He does feel the same, Donna. I've seen the way he looks at you, too. Especially when you're with me. He's in love with you. He'd be crazy not to." he says with sad eyes. "I should probably go…"

"Thomas… I'm so sorry" Donna says with apologetic eyes. "You don't have to leave. You can stay"

"No, I can't. Don't lose the chance to be happy, Donna" Thomas kisses her cheek and turns to leave. She feels angry at her and at Harvey. She will never be happy because of something that doesn't even exist. Walking straight to the bar she notices that Harvey is no longer in the same place, which she finds good because the last person she wants to talk to right now is him. That's what she thought before she sensed Scottie getting close to her.

"Just so you know, I didn't come here for Harvey" the brunette tells her while sitting by her side at the bar. "I'm seeing someone. One of your clients"

That makes Donna a little more calm and she hates it. She is not supposed to feel anything and yet she does.

"That's good for you, Scottie" Donna answers while looking at her drink.

"Where's your date?"

Donna laughs ironically. "He just left. Another person leaving me because of…" she stops, unable to finish.

"Because of Harvey?" Scottie pushes and Donna sighs.

"Yes. Thomas thinks I have feelings for him"

"Well, don't you?"

"Scottie, look…" Donna starts but the other woman cuts her.

"Donna, I don't want to intrude more than I've already intruded, but not ten minutes ago I was standing right here talking to Harvey about you" Donna looks at her curious and she continues "He looked so stupid and jealous watching you dance with Thomas, because he thought you looked happy. Until he couldn't watch anymore and he left. I told him to open up to you about his feelings, and we both know he wouldn't do that because you were with someone. If you're not anymore, go after him"

"I've done that once and it didn't go well…"

"Then try again. Because I know for sure that he is available now. In a way that he's never been to anyone before." Scottie says that last part with a bit of hurt, but she smiles anyway. It's all in the past.

"Where is he?"

"I saw him going towards the elevator, try the roof" Scottie smiles "He is in love with you, Donna. He always has been"

God, I hope he is. Donna thinks to herself. She can't go through that again.

Oh won't you walk through

And bust in the door

And take me away

Oh no more mistakes

Cause in your eyes I'd like to stay

Stay

It's a beautiful night in New York. Not too hot and with a gentle breeze. The sky is full of stars and the lights in those hundreds of buildings only add more beauty to it. Harvey sighs and prays to whatever God is out there that he finds a way to move on and let Donna be happy, because he doesn't want to ruin that for her again.

"It sure is a beautiful night" he hears her voice. He doesn't turn to her, though.

"It is..."

"What are you doing up here? The party is not good enough for you?"

Donna stands beside him, but some inches apart. Silence falls over them, neither one knowing what to do or say.

"It was boring" he finally decided to speak.

"I thought it was fine, until my date left me" she says with a tired voice.

"He what?" his voice is full with surprise.

"Thomas broke up with me"

"Why? How could he do that?" now he sounds angry, and Donna doesn't fail to notice it.

"I don't know…" she lies. She's not going to give it to him that easy.

"Ugh, Donna, I'm so sorry" Harvey looks at her with real sorry in his eyes. "Is there something I can do to make you feel better?"

"Why didn't you talk to me today when I got here?" she asks pointly.

"What?"

"When I arrived with Thomas, you barely looked at me. You just talked to Thomas. Why?"

You know why.

"I… I didn't know what to say. Things have been awkward between us." he looks back at the sky.

Donna sighs frustrated and looks to the stars too. This is pointless. He'll never open up to me.

"You know, when I was a kid I used to look at the stars every night and make a wish. Years have passed by and I kinda forgot I used to do that. Tonight I remembered it, and then..." Harvey says quietly "I made a wish again."

"What did you wish for?" her heart beats fast and she asks while looking at him.

"For you to be happy"

He looks at her and she gets lost in those brown eyes.

"That's all I really want, and that's all I've always wanted, Donna" he smiles at her and God, she loves that smile. "I'm sorry Thomas broke up with you, but I'm sure you'll find someone who's good enough for you soon"

And there it is again. Donna is so fucking tired of getting her hopes up and having them crashed by Harvey's inability to say what she wants him to.

"You really don't get it, do you, Harvey?" she almost shouts with anger. "You wanna know what I want? For you to just say what you feel. What you really feel. Stop playing with me, Harvey. I can't take it anymore. If you don't say it, I'm done. And I mean it. I'm going to leave, and I'm not going to come back…."

Her words are cut by his lips on hers and she can't believe this is really happening. His hands fall to her waist and hers slowly find their way to his neck. I missed this, they both think. When they feel they're out of breath, they separate their mouths and Donna doesn't know how to act or what to say.

"I want you" Harvey says and his eyes are sparkling. "I want you, Donna. I've wanted you for a long time. I've wanted you probably for thirteen years. God, it killed me to see you with him today, that's why I didn't say anything to you, because I didn't know how to act, how to hide my discomfort and… jealousy. You looked so happy dancing with him, I felt like I missed my chance. Then Scottie came to me and told me to man up and tell you how I feel, but it wasn't fair to you, you had finally moved on. But I think this is my last chance, right? So, here it is. I love you, Donna. I'm in love with you. I want to try and make you happy. I'm not good enough for you, I know that…"

"Harvey..."

"No, let me finish" he smiles and holds her with all the force he can, their foreheads almost touching. "I'm not good enough for you, but I'm going to try, if you let me, of course. I've dreamed about being with you every day for the last thirteen years. I hope it's still time to make this my reality."

"Do you wanna know why Thomas broke up with me?" she asks and Harvey nods. "Because he thinks I have feelings for you." Donna brings Harvey's face closer to hers by her hold in his neck.

"Do you?" his voice is barely a whisper and he closes his eyes, anxious to hear her answer.

"Yes."

He opens his eyes and Donna swears she's never seen Harvey smiling so big like he does now.

"I love you. I'm in love with you, too. God, what took you so long, Specter? I thought you'd never man up and tell me just how crazy you are about me" they both laugh and he brings their mouths together again, savoring every minute.

"I'm sorry, Donna. I should've done this years ago"

"Shhh" she brings her thumb on his lips and caresses it. "It's okay, we're here now. Right?"

"Right." he smiles. "I'm not letting you go, ever. In fact, I would love to take you home right now, what do you think?" Harvey grins and brings his mouth to Donna's neck, sending goosebumps all over her body.

"Oh, I think it's about time you do it."

Harvey takes her hand and guides them to the door, and when they get into the elevator, he can't keep his hands off her, kissing and holding her because he finally can do it.

"I didn't know Harvey Specter was so clingy" Donna says while laughing softly, the butterflies in her stomach dancing in a good way.

"Harvey Specter is only clingy with Donna Paulsen" he mumbles between kisses to her neck. "By the way, this dress looks incredible on you."

"It does?" she's not used to him saying those things. It will take some time...

"Mmm, but it will look way better on my floor." his voice on her ear almost kills her.

"Oh, I bet it will" she replies seeking for his lips.

When they reach the floor where the party is happening, they leave the elevator and Harvey's loosens his hold on her and starts to walk away, she frowns.

"Harvey, what is it?" Donna sounds insecure and he hates that he does that to her.

"I don't know if you want people to see us together, you know, since you just broke up with Thomas. There's nothing more I want to do than show you off to the whole world, but I'll understand if you want to wait to tell people." he smiles calmly and takes her hand in his.

"Oh. Thank God, I thought that you regretted it…" she says kinda shyly.

"Hey, no. Never" he brings her close, grateful that no one is looking at them. "I will never regret you."

"I think I want to wait a little, if you don't mind"

"I don't. As long as I can still take you home right now?" he asks sending her his best cheshire cat smile.

"What the hell is taking you so long, Specter?" Donna challenges.

"Let's go home, Paulsen" he guides them to the door, where Ray is waiting for him. The driver smiles when he sees the couple getting close. "Hey Ray." Harvey greets him.

"Mr. Specter, Ms. Paulsen" he answers with a big grin while getting in the car. "Where to?"

"To my place. That okay with you?" Harvey asks Donna when they're both in the car, his arm around her and her hand in his thigh.

"Yes." she smiles. "And Harvey?"

"Mmm?" he says, getting lost while kissing her freckles on her shoulder.

"I hope you take me home every night from now on" she looks at him with hope and certainty and he kisses her.

"Don't worry, Donna. I wouldn't have it any other way"
