Ema exhaled into the night air.

One could see her breath due to the cold. She needed a break so she took a few steps away. In the corner of her eyes, she could see someone sitting down near a lake. It took her a second to realize the blonde haired person was Charlie. With the brown winter hat on, she couldn't recognize her for a moment. She walked to her and sat down next to her. At first it seemed like she didn't notice her as if she was lost in thought.

Looking over, Ema realized she was drawing. Almost immediately she looked away, knowing how she was with some art of hers. Charlie then looked at her with a warming smile.

"Hey Ema," she welcomed. "Didn't think I would see you here tonight."

"Oh, yeah, just taking a break is all." Ema replied.

Charlie tilted the book for Ema. "I noticed you were looking at the picture, so here."

For a second Ema hesitated, but then took the notebook she had. She looked at the picture Charlie was drawing. It was a picture of her and Lana, albeit it was a rough sketch so not all of the details were drawn. There were some areas she saw were faded sketch lines, showing where she erased. After looking at the entirety of the picture, she gave the notebook back to Charlie. Charlie took it from her hands and put it back onto her lap.

"It looks great so far. You've gotten a lot better since the last time I saw your art." Ema complimented.

She smiled. "Thank you." She leaned up, looking at the stars above them. "Beautiful, aren't they?"

Ema stared at her for a moment then up at the stars. "Yeah, they are."

"Tell me, Emmie," she began, "have your parents ever told you any stories about the stars, or even Lana herself?"

"Not really. What kind of stories?" She asked, looking at her with her eyebrow raised.

"When I was young, my father always told me how when people die, they become stars. From up there, they watch over us."

"I'd like to believe that's the case, but scientifically speaking..." Ema stopped herself mid sentence. She then looked away.

Charlie chuckled. "That's okay if you don't believe it, Emmie. Just know that I'm sure your parents would be proud of you and Lana, even if they were still here today." She smiled at her.

Ema glanced at her then looked back up to the sparkling sky. Ema hoped that they truly were proud of her and that they were proud of Lana as well. At least for now, she'd like to think that they were proud of them in the afterlife.

If there was an afterlife anyways.

A/N: Since I haven't finished up with the next chapter of Dare Yori Suki Nano Ni, and I probably won't be for awhile unfortunately which I apologize about, I figured I'd put this up since I wrote it awhile back.
