It all began, with darkness. Then, a shiver of light, that became bigger. It culminated in a flash of light.
The girl slowly opened her groggy eyes, as the world around her came into view. She was in some kind of forest, trees with red leaves above her. She had so many questions buzzing through her mind, who was she? Where was she? And, what's that voice?
"And she lives!" Said a voice, with a strange looking robot coming into view.
The girl screamed, backing away from the floating robot.
"Oh crap, sorry about that dearie, didn't mean to startle you!" The robot said, in a feminine voice, with a slight Brooklyn accent. The girl stopped backing up and took several breaths. "You feelin' alright kid, nothing broken or anything?" the robot asked, "This is sorta my first time doin' this, so I wanna make sure I did it right." The girl sat up, looking at the robot.
"W-Who are you?" She asked, in a hush, confused voice.
"Oh, right, introductions!" The robot said, making a coughing sound, clearing its nonexistent throat. "I don't have a name, but as far as titles go, you can call me your ghost."
"My, ghost?" The girl repeated, "Does that mean I'm dead?"
"More like, you WERE dead." the ghost corrected, "And I brought you back to life!" The girl's eyes widened upon that remark, had she really been dead? "Anyway, do you have a name?" The ghost asked.
"I… I don't know." The girl replied. She saw a puddle of water nearby and crawled over to it. She looked into it, seeing her reflection. She had short black hair with red accents, a white and black dress, a red skirt and cape, and gleaming silver eyes. "I, don't remember my name." She said, her reflection mouthing the same words she said.
"Eh, don't worry, it's normal for most Risen to not remember things." The ghost said, appearing in the reflection behind her. "Do you remember, anything?"
"No. Not a single thing…" She sighed lightly, before something seemed to catch her eye in the reflection. She turned to see what it was, and when she went to investigate, she found what looked to be a big sniper rifle. "What is…?"
"HOT DAMN!" The ghost exclaimed, "That's… that's a weapon from one of those Huntsman folks!" Before the girl could ask what that was, roars were heard in the distance.
"What was that?" The girl asked.
"Fallen." The ghost replied, "We aren't safe here kid, follow me." The girl nodded, and got to her feet, which felt like they would give out beneath her. She stumbled a bit and ended up falling flat on her face. The impact left the girl dizzy, but she was still able to see something near her. It was a rose, growing amongst the dried-up ground. The girl got up and plucked it from the ground. She didn't know why, but seeing the rose made her feel, happy.
"You said you didn't have a name?" She asked her ghost.
"Yeah, why?" The ghost replied.
"Well, how about I call you 'Rose'?"
"Rose… I like it."
…
Sometime later, the girl and Rose were walking through the red forest, which Rose stated was called, "Forever Fall". As they were walking, the girl looked around, and noticed how desolate the world around them was. She decided about a quarter mile later, that she would as Rose some questions.
"Um, excuse me Rose," She said, "would you mind if I asked you some questions?"
"Shoot." Rose replied.
"Well," the girl started, taking a minute to think about what to ask first, "where did you come from? What are Fallen? And how come there are no other people around?" Rose spun around to face the girl.
"You want the long version, or the short version?" Rose asked.
"The short version sounds good." The girl said.
"Well, I came from the Traveler. Hell if I know where it is nowadays..." Rose said, looking up. The girl looked up too, a slight look of confusion on her face.
"The what now...?" she asked, a bit lost.
"It's complicated. Give me a moment to explain!" Rose sighed heavily, well mimicked the action. Then without another second wasted, Rose recapped to the girl what happened the past few years.
"You see, your planet, Remnant, was once an utter shithole. There were these evil creatures that were called 'Grimm', and an evil queen that controlled them all named 'Salem'. A growing conflict was growing between her, and humanity, one that would spell imminent doom to your world. That is, until the Traveler arrived. It's basically a huge ball of knowledge and power, that goes around the galaxy, sharing its knowledge and power with other worlds. When it came to this world, its first act was purging it of all Grimm, including the supposedly immortal Salem. Mankind was forever grateful to The Traveler, and with its knowledge, a new age began on Remnant, The Golden Age. During this age, a lot of crazy things happened. The Traveler used its abilities to terraform the entire planet, changing certain landmasses whilst adding new ones! For an example, the place that used to harbor those ungodly creatures was turned into an oasis! Everything was hunky dory, until The Darkness came along. I don't know the exact details, but it and The Traveler have some major beef. So yeah, the Darkness showed up, and caused mankind's gloriousGolden Age to come to a dark end. And after that, Remnant got some, new, unwanted residents. One that I can remember of off the top of my head are those space scavengers, the Fallen as people call them. Remnant was in jeopardy again, but The Traveler had one last gift to give it. It created Ghosts like me to come down to this world's surface, and give humanity a small fraction of its power, creating people like yourself, the Risen, which is what you are now kid."
"Got all that?" Rose asked. The girl was completely stunned, she didn't know what to think. It was all so much to take in, was she some kind of superhero now? "Kid, you good?" Rose said, breaking the girl out of her trance.
"Uh, yeah, I'm ok." The girl replied.
"Good, but yeah, that's the short version." Rose continued, "As for where everybody else is, they've been living either as nomads, or in towns, villages or settlements that they've set up themselves. They're trying to survive day by day, from all the aliens that have come here." Suddenly, the roars were heard again. "Speaking of aliens, sounds like The Fallen are nearby." Another sound was heard, but it sounded like a scream. "And it also sounds like someone may be in trouble." The girl heard the screaming, and even though she didn't know how to use the powers The Traveler gave to her, she did know that someone needed help, and like it or not, she was the best shot they had. So, she instinctively pulled out the sniper weapon, and began running in the direction of the screaming. "Hey, kid, wait up!" Rose cried, following close behind her.
