Title: The World Falls Apart Around You (As You Stand Still)

Genre: Poetry/Angst

Summary: A poem about Christy Plunkett and her struggles in seasons 1 and 2.

A mother, never there for her when she was a child.

Father, gone before she had been in this world for a single year.

So many years spent drunk and wild

To hide the fact that she was living in fear.

Fear of losing her children, fear of falling apart,

But she knew her life had crumbled long ago.

Before she died of alcoholism, she would die of a broken heart.

She had hit an all time low.

But somehow, she managed to rise above her disease.

She cleaned up her act.

She would climb mountains and cross seas

To get her children's trust back.

Life was going okay for the first time in so long

When the mother that neglected her walked back into her life, seemingly back from the brink.

But she stayed strong.

She didn't take one pill or have one drink.

She met her father for the first time, and she got to know the man who left when he finally made his grand return.

Her beloved daughter got pregnant and gave up that little girl.

So many times, she suffered emotional scars, cuts, and burns.

And sometimes it felt like she was close to losing her whole world.

They lost their home.

She became a sponsor to a girl named Jill,

And despite each draw back, she was happy because she wasn't dealing with this on her own.

When everything was moving and shaking around her, she stayed strong still.

Her father, who she had bonded with, died,

And everything seemed to crumble.

Her mother, who was doing so well until that moment, drank and got high, cheated and lied.

And she was doing everything she could not to stumble

She wanted to gamble and drink, yell and find a way to simply not think.

She put on a smile, she put on a show.

She was desperately trying to swim, but the more she tried, the more she began to sink.

She was hanging on for dear life, but sometimes she wondered what it would be like to simply… let go.
