Izuku watched as his fellow classmates ran down the length of the track, wishing he had his notebook with him so he could write stuff down. The tall boy with the glasses had done the best so far, though that made sense as his quirk was geared for speed. However, Izuku still hadn't seen what all of them had to offer.

Currently, a somewhat odd, blonde teen (Izuku really needed to learn his classmate's names) had just utilised the kickback from an energy blast from his stomach to launch himself most of the way across the track. It was a pretty ingenious solution (Though it would've been better if the boy had actually made it the full distance instead of crashing into the ground right before the finish line), and Aizawa-sensei seemed fine with them using their quirks in ways that didn't involve actual running.

Izuku thanked his lucky stars that he and Yagi-san had practiced throwing himself, otherwise this could've been a serious challenge. Just as he was thinking that, he was called up, and so was Kacchan.

He stared at his childhood friend out of the corner of his eye, thinking about how well he might do. Izuku's mind went back to when he had seen Kacchan training in the woods. He remembered how quickly he had been able to move around with his explosions. As the two of them got ready, Izuku brought out Holding Out and had it pick him up. To anyone else, it would looks like he was floating slightly off the ground.

At the starting signal, Holding Out hurled him forward, while Kacchan unleashed a powerful explosion to launch himself forward at the same time. As Izuku sailed through the air, he saw Kacchan rocket himself ahead at astonishing speeds. Admittedly, Izuku knew he could've potentially thrown himself harder, but he almost certainly would've hurt himself if he had done that. While Kacchan crossed the finish line, Izuku hit the ground with a roll just before it and lunged forward to cover the rest of the distance.

"Bakugou, 3.16 seconds." Aizawa-sensei read from his phone, "Midoriya, 4.1 seconds."

4.1 seconds, Izuku tried to remember how fast he had been in middle school. He was pretty sure he had finished it in about seven and a half seconds back then. That was a pretty good jump in speed, he could finish a fifty meter dash in almost half the time now.

Both he and Kacchan made their way back to the group while the last two students took their places. Now that he wasn't focused on preparing for the dash, he looked over at Kacchan, who was pointedly not looking in his direction. As much as it hurt, Izuku knew that he had to leave him alone.

He remember his last interaction with Kacchan, back at their middle school after they had been accepted into U.A., he remembered how Kacchan had sounded so... drained. Izuku had never heard him sound that way before, but it was obvious that talking to him, maybe even just being around him, was upsetting for Kacchan. They might be in the same class, but Izuku knew they would never be close again.

Fortunately, he was brought out of his depressing thoughts by a loud cracking sound. Looking back toward the track, he watched as a boy with red and white hair propelled himself forward by create massive amounts of ice behind him. The glacier even trapped the student he was racing against, a girl with a black ponytail, by encasing her legs in ice.

"Yaoyorozu, you can try that again." Aizawa-sensei said with a tired sigh, dragging a hand down his face.

"Th-thank y-you s-sen-sensei." Yaoyorozu hugged herself as her body shivered violently.

The dual haired boy walked towards Yaoyorozu, said something to quiet to be heard from where Izuku was standing, and placed his left hand on the ice surrounding her legs. The ice immediately began to melt, freeing the poor girl.

Izuku watched with interest. From what he had seen, it looked like the boy had some form of ice or water manipulation quirk, Izuku hadn't seen enough of it to be sure, but it looked pretty powerful.

"The rest of you, move on to the nest event." Aizawa-sensei said. At his words, the group started moving.

They found themselves indoors for the next event, which was testing their grip strength. While Izuku could have been watching his classmates and see how their quirks worked and how they applied them, he was instead marveling at how well made the devices they were using to measure them were. He handed it off to Holding Out and had it squeeze the device as hard as possible, and he hadn't heard a single buzz coming from it. Once he was done, he took the device back from his quirk to read the measurement.

"Two thousand kilograms!?" A voice shouted right by his ear. Izuku yelped and turned his head to see Uraraka standing right behind him, staring over his shoulder, "That's insane!"

"Oh-oh Uh- Th-thanks." Izuku stuttered in embarrassment, both from the praise and because she was standing way too close.

"Wait, seriously?" A new voice said. Izuku turned his head again to see a boy with spiky red hair approach. Izuku nervously held up his device to show the redhead, who gave a low whistle, "Wow, two tonnes. That's impressive, man."

"I only got fifty five kg." Uraraka sighed in disappointment.

The red head held up his device and started to say something, but he was cut off before he could actually speak.

"Do you really think you have time to stand around talking?" Aizawa-sensei said, "Remember, the person in last place faces expulsion."

That instantly killed the cheerful mood. Everyone just kind of awkwardly shuffled away. Even though he had been doing well so far, Izuku's stress level still spiked at the reminder.

As the events went on, Katsuki did something he only ever did once in a blue moon. He payed attention to other people.

He'd never admit it to anyone, but he had been carefully watching all of his classmates. He had to admit, their quirks were... not bad. If they were smart about how they used them, they might be halfway decent heroes. But that's the thing, they had to actually be smart. And really, that's what this whole test was about, not who had the most powerful quirk, but who was the most clever about how they used their quirk.

So far, only a handful of people really stood out to him. Firstly, there was Ponytail, named such for obvious reasons. She was honestly the best example of how this test was supposed to work. Her quirk didn't seem to give her any kind of physical buff that he could see, but it let her make shit. Seriously, stuff just appeared out her body, it actually made him kinda uncomfortable to watch her pull crap out of her skin. She seemed intelligent enough to actually put her quirk to good use, doing shit like making a springboard to clear the long jump, creating a moped to ride for the endurance run, and even Katsuki could keep running longer than that thing's battery life, though he tried his damnedest, or making an actual fucking cannon to shoot the softball out of, netting her the second highest score in that event.

Another dude Kastuki noticed was Candy Cane, the boy with ridiculous red and white hair. He didn't seem clever or anything, if anything he seemed a little thick, it's just that he had a really fucking powerful quirk. And he was in damn good shape to boot, though Katsuki felt he was probably physically stronger between the two.

Beyond that, there wasn't much to note, Four Eyes was about as strong and fast as Kastuki expected, Birdbrain had a freaky-ass shadow demon living inside his chest (It was also pretty strong, and those two factors combined were really only reason the guy was that notable), and then there was Round Face, who was only really interesting because she got infinity on the ball throw. Depending on how they ranked them, that alone might've been enough to net her the top spot. Kastuki personally doubted that would be the case though, and he was going to be fucking pissed if it was.

There was also Deku, but... Katsuki already knew how powerful he was.

Eventually though, the events came to an end. Katsuki was simultaneously satisfied with how he had done, he couldn't think of any points were he had screwed up or could have done obviously better, but he was also on edge about just how well he had performed compared to the rest of his class. It wasn't enough to just pass, or even be near the top.

He needed to be the top.

"Come on people. Time for the results." The teacher sounded completely uninterested. He pressed a button on his phone and a holographic leader board popped up in front of him.

Katsuki's eyes immediately went to the top spot, and he saw...

1. Yaoyorozu Momo

2. Bakugou Katsuki

Katsuki's jaw clenched as his eyes swept across his classmates. He didn't know any of their names (The teacher had said a few of them, but Kastuki couldn't remember that shit), but it wasn't terribly hard to guess which of them could've stolen the number one spot from him. Only a few people had done as well as him after all. His eyes landed on Ponytail, who was staring at the top of the scoreboard with a self-satisfied smile that he longed to wipe off her face.

It was her, he knew it.

Looking at the rest of the group only made him more sure, almost everyone else looked relieved that they had passed or disappointed at how low they scored. Round Face in particular was drooping, probably upset that her infinity ball throw didn't land her as high as she would've liked, and a midget with balls stuck to his head looked like he was about to suffer a mental breakdown.

Katsuki's eyes snapped back to Ponytail as he started to glare a hole through her head. Within a few seconds, she seemed to notice how pissed of he was, turning to stare at him. She managed to hold his gaze for a few seconds (Which was longer than most extras could, but he wasn't about to give her any sort of praise), before awkwardly looking and shuffling away.

While Katsuki tried to focus on his current anger, there was a small thought nibbling away at the back of his mind. He didn't want to give it any attention, but eventually he did anyway.

He turned back to search the scoreboard. There should have been no reason to, he already knew his spot and who beat him, but he did it anyway for some fucking reason.

It didn't take him long to find what he was looking for.

5. Midoriya Izuku

Aw, hell. His headache was coming back.

First the nerd placed third in the entrance exam, and now he was fifth in the apprehension test. Deku was way too close to Kastuki. He needed to put more space between the two of them, he needed to get stronger, he needed to leave that bastard in the dust.

"Mineta." The teacher spoke suddenly. The Midget made a strained noise and looked even more frightened than he had before, but the teacher didn't notice or didn't care, "Come with me. The rest of you are done here. Head back to the classroom to get the curriculum and whatnot. And actually read them." He started walking away, only to pause when he noticed the Midget wasn't following him. He turned back around and spoke with a commanding voice for the first time today, "Mineta. I don't have all day, hurry up."

'What are you going to do if he doesn't? Expel him?' Katsuki thought snidely.

It had the desired effect on the Midget though, and the boy ran after the teacher on the verge of tears. A heavy silence fell over the rest of the class. Everyone looked troubled, Ponytail in particular for some reason.

"You don't think he's really going to expel him... Do you?" Round Face asked the group. If he didn't, Katsuki was going to lose the what little respect he might have had for his teacher.

"He said weak shits get expelled, so the weak shit is getting expelled. What the hell did you expect?" Katsuki growled. That seemed to shut her up, and she looked down at the ground.

"I... I really didn't expect him to actually expel anyone." Ponytail said, "I thought it was just a lie to make sure we would take the test seriously. I never thought a Pro Hero could be so cruel..."

The only reason Katsuki didn't scoff was because Candy Cane beat him to the punch. The palette disaster shoved his hands in his pockets and started walking away from the group. He quietly said, "Then you don't know anything about heroes."

Katsuki immediately started walking too, moving fast enough to get ahead of the other boy while not making it obvious. The rest of the extras followed after not too much longer.

How was it that it wasn't even lunch time, and yet Kastuki could say that this might be one of the most miserable days he had ever had the displeasure to experience? His classmates were a bunch of morons, most of them so far behind him they weren't noticing, the one girl who was ahead of him was a fool with no idea how the world worked, his teacher barely seemed interested in teaching, and the cherry on top of the shit sundae was the fact that Deku was in his class.

What a fine fucking start to his time at U.A.

First off, I want to thank everyone who commented and reminded me of how Aizawa's expulsions actually work. I had forgotten that part, embarrassingly enough. I'd like to think that I would've remembered on my own before it could've become an issue, but thanks to you guys, I didn't have to take that chance.

Okay, so I gotta say that trying to assign actual numbers to a character's power is HELL. I honestly had no bloody clue what to put for Holding Out's grip strength. I was thinking that maybe it should be able to bend metal with its hands so I tried looking up how much force that would take, but the numbers I found were absolutely insane. I also looked up how strong a crocodile's bite strength for reference, but by that point I was starting to get frustrated and figured I probably wasn't properly understanding the science involved. So, I ended up just making up a number that looked good enough. There's a reason I did the ball throw and other events off-screen (off-page?).

Speaking of, the numbers given in the actual canon make no sense, well to me at least, I could be talking out my ass here. But, for example, Tenya completed the 50 meter dash in 3.04 seconds, that's only 59 km/h or 36.5 mph, which is a lot slower than I was expecting from him. Also, Tsuyu's time in the 50 meter dash, with her quirk, was the exact same Bakugou's time from middle school. Meaning, Bakugou could beat Tsuyu in a footrace on their first day of U.A., and that just doesn't sound right. The girl has powerful frog legs, I feel like she should be faster. Also, Koda somehow got 10th place, and I just don't know anymore.

Writing from Katsuki's POV is surprisingly easy, or at the very least I tend to fall back on it when I'm having trouble with a scene. Maybe it's because I can use swear words more often, and I tend to swear a fuck ton when I talk.

Also, I just started Persona 5. Hopefully that won't affect my update schedule.
