author's note: this is the first thing i've wrote in seven months, so yay! i'm not the most proud of this, but enjoy :) the title is a play on the Atticus quote in my bio.
this is written for hogwarts, prompts at the bottom.
warnings: mention of character death. also kinda cheesy and cliche. if that's not your thing then this is not the fic for you.
all i need is you and some sunrises
"Hey, love."
Lily smiled, her legs dangling dangerously off the ledge of the building. "Hey."
"I figured you'd be up here, but next time at least leave a note."
Lily turned her head to look at him, realizing she loved the man standing before her so much. James was her everything. He was there for her when her mother died, keeping her strong the whole time but also reminding her she didn't have put on a strong facade. Reminding her crying doesn't mean weakness, even though all the other men in her life had taught her the opposite. James made her feel safe, and happy. He felt like home.
Lily kept her eyes on him, saying nothing. He sat next to her, a gentle smile on his face. She took a moment to notice his sleepy eyes, the way the rich flecks of gold seemed to shine in them. Lily remembered falling for him soon after meeting him. Now they were living together.
Now they were in love.
James placed his hand on top of hers, filling Lily with a warm sensation, "Is anything wrong?"
"Nah. I'm just clearing my head before going back to writing. My deadline is close."
"You should be sleeping. You haven't rested properly in ages."
"Maybe. But I couldn't sleep, and I saw that it was almost time for sunrise and," Lily gestured to the rising sun, "Well, it's beautiful isn't it? I couldn't miss it."
James smiled softly, "Yeah, it is."
They sat together for awhile, enjoying each others company in silence. They watched as birds flew across the sky, the golden sun smiling upon them.
"I love you," Lily said.
James leaned over and kissed her forehead, "I love you too."
Sitting together on the roof of their apartment, contentment warmed Lily from within.
