If Merlin wasn't standing, he would have fallen asleep. All these damn meetings Arthur brought him too surely was a punishment for something. Leon was droning on about something to do with supplies and the quantity thereof and how they related to the people of Camelot. Arthur looked like he was zoning off too. Merlin really couldn't blame him, these meetings were dreadfully boring.
"And the village of Galon has requested for an extra merchant be sent to them this fall. It seems they're expecting an abundant harvest," Leon said, sending Arthur an expectant look. After a couple seconds without a response, Merlin kicked the back of Arthur's chair as discreetly as he could.
Arthur abruptly sat up straight and coughed into his hand, "Yes, yes, of course. They will be-"
"I need to get in there! It's a matter of life or death!"
Every stared at the doors where the shouting was coming from until they swung open, revealing scraggly looking man.
"My lord!" He said abruptly when his eyes landed on the head of the table, it may have been a round table but everyone knew where the head was. He knelt and bowed his head, speaking calmly as if he didn't just burst into the room in the middle of a meeting, "I've come to warn you that the Witch Morgana rides for Camelot at this very moment. She will arrive by sky before noon,"
Arthur was speechless for a good moment before nodding his head and standing up, "Thank you for warning me, we will prepare the for the attack immediately,"
The man looked up at Arthur with a slightly affronted look, "I wasn't talking to you. My lord is Emrys, I am loyal to him and him alone,"
Merlin's heart jumped in his throat. Would this man reveal him? Would he keep his secret? Did he even know it was him? Of course he knew it was him, that's why he was here. And yet Merlin couldn't wrap his mind around how anyone could be so undying loyal to him. Why not Arthur? He was the king after all.
"Who is Emrys?" Arthur asked with furrowed brows.
The man smiled with pride as he stood up, "Emrys is the greatest man who has ever lived. It is his destiny to help you become the Once and Future King and bring about the golden age of Albion. He fights from the shadows everyday and asks for no recognition but Emrys, should you need us, you have an army of men who would be willing to die for you. I am honored to be in your presence," The man bowed before walking out and everyone in the room was left in an uncomfortable silence.
"You guys remembered the part about Morgana right?" The quick quip by Merlin got everyone moving again and before long the meeting room was empty aside for Merlin who found himself grinning like an idiot.
I absolutely adore Merlin with a loyal following of Druids. They just trust him so much because he's all powerful and will bring back magic. Because who needs Arthur when you have Merlin right? ^w^ Lots of love!
