Little Sun

The softest song filtered through the Aveyond temple as a redheaded woman ran pale fingers through the silky locks of the child on her lap. The melody was gentle, a sound of wistfulness for the simplicity of days long past.

"Mama, you always sing that but I've never seen it in any of my books about Aia. What adventure does it come from?" Asked the brown-eyed boy, looking up at her with wide eyes.

Talia kissed the top of her sons head and cuddled him close.

"The greatest adventure of anyone's life, childhood. This was the song my grandma-ma sang to me when I was a child. I can remember lots of nights when I struggled to sleep, or when I was having a bad day and the tears would come she would hug me close and sing to me." Talia laughed softly as Dameon perked up and turned to look at her, she could recognize his look of curiosity a mile away.

"What about your mama? And your daddy? Did they ever sing it to you?"

She shook her head much to the young boy's confusion.

"Do you remember that little girl you saw at the shrine when you went with your father once? How she had no parents because she was an orphan?."

Dameon nodded quickly.

"Well, I was like that little girl. I never knew my parents as a child, my grandma-ma raised me and took care of me like a mother and a father." Talia explained gently.

The little boy's face fell and with almost tearful eyes he reached up two small hands to rest them on Talia's face.

"Are you sad about it? I would be sad without you and daddy... Maybe I can make you happy if I sing it!"

His words were so earnest and heartfelt and Talia couldn't decide whether she wanted to cry or laugh, so she settled for both and a hug.

"You have the sweetest heart, I just know that one day you will be able to help so many with it." She murmured to the now impatiently wiggling boy in her lap.

"Sweets? I like sweets!" He cheered, before letting out a shrieking giggle as Talia gently tickled his soft tummy.

"Then, why don't we see if there's a little bit of pie from last night left for my sweet boy hmm?" She set him down on his feet before standing and starting towards the back area, looking down with a smile when a tiny hand latched onto hers.

"Can you teach me the words to your song while we eat mama?"

He swung their joined hands back and forth best he could and Talia was struck yet again with how grateful she was to be able to spend time with her boy like this.

"Of course my little sun. It starts like this..."
