It's been a long time since I worked on this story, but Im finally here.
Let's continue with Miraculous Mermaid!
Marinette's New Life (Part 3)
Mylene and Alix stared at each other confused, not sure how to respond to such a request then looked back at the blunette. It was an odd suggestion on their part, but they did have to remember that Marinette wasn't originally apart of their world.
"You want us to...teach you how to be human?" Mylene asked.
Marinette nodded. "If I want to become the perfect bride for Adrien first I need to learn how humans normally act, right?"
"Ha! Good luck with that." Alix snorted, "Most humans don't even know how to act like 'normal human beings' themselves."
Mylene shook her head at her pink haired friend and turned her attention back to Marinette. "Mari, I'm more than positive that Adrien loves you just the way you are, you don't have to change for him."
"The King doesn't think so..." The blunette responded sadly. "...he wants Adrien to marry another human, a noble no less, he feels she'd be a much better candidate for him as queen."
"What does he know?" Alix scoffed, "You're way more fun than some stuffy noble, there's no way Adrien would choose her over you."
"I know, but that's just the thing. Even as a mermaid I didn't have any royal status." Marinette explains, "Being with Adrien, staying by his side, means that one day I'll have to be by his side as Queen. How can I do that when I don't even know how to act like the people I'm supposed to be ruling?" She clasped her hands together and pleaded to her friends. "I love Adrien so much, please can you girls help me?"
Both girls gave each other another look, Alix sighed before nodding and Mylene turned back to Marinette.
"Okay Marinette..." Mylene started with a smile. "We'll help you."
Marinette grin brightly, before pulling the two of them in a crushing hug. "Thank you so much!"
Mylene returned the hug patting her back, while Alix began struggling to escape. "I can't breathe!"
~~~~~~~
Adrien was very worried about Marinette. All week he's been trying to spend time with her, but every time he'd go to ask, he either couldn't find her or she would come up with some excuse of why she couldn't go.
Like yesterday for instance, Adrien had found Marinette in the hallway after spending majority of the day searching for her once again. She was holding a book and was really drawned to whatever she was reading.
"Marinette!" He called out and proceeded to jog over to her.
Marinette tensed hearing his voice and quickly whipped around hiding the book behind her. "A...Adrien what are you doing here?"
"I've been looking all over for you Marinette." He took both of her hands in his. "I...wanted to take you on a picnic, just the two of us. I feel like I haven't gotten to see you all week so I want to take this time to be with you, we can have our picnic on the beach and watch the sunset, what do you say?"
"That sounds wonderful..." she sighed dreamily, but quickly shook the thought from her head. "...but I can't."
Adrien's expression sadden upon hearing that. "How come?"
"I have somewhere to be...,but we can definitely have the picnic another time I promise."
Adrien sighed and released her hands,"You said that last time..."
"I know and I'm really sorry, but this is...really important." It was important, Marinette only had a couple of days before she was tested on whether or not she can become Adrien's queen. Adrien had told her about it earlier in the week, but he said to not worry about it and that it didn't matter.
It did matter though, Marinette needed to learn to be a human and a princess in a week if she wanted to be with Adrien. She had even resorted into taking advice from Chloe who was oddly willing to lend a hand, but that didn't make the experience any less unpleasant.
Marinette leaned forward and kissed Adrien on the cheek. "I love you Adrien, I'll...see you later."
With that she walked off and it was the last time the prince had spoke to her. He couldn't even see her at dinner anymore, for some reason lately she preferred to dine with Mylene and Alix in the maid quarters.
After supper that night Adrien decided today that he'd find Marinette and finally get to the bottom of what the heck was going on.
He reached the maids dining quarters and reached to open the door, but stopped when he heard their voices.
"Marinette will you quit stop trying to comb your hair with the fork, that's not what it's for!" Alix said in an irritated tone.
"Sorry force of habit..." Marinette said apologetically.
Adrien peaked inside and noticed that Marinette was sitting at the table by herself with food in front of her while Alix and Mylene stood on both sides of the girl.
"Okay Marinette now pick up your salad fork." Marinette reached out for on of them. "Nonono not that one, go ahead and try again." The blunette sat there for a moment before reaching out for the correct one. "There you go, now pick up the spoon that you use to eat your soup." Marinette picked one up and Mylene shook her head. "No...that's the dessert spoon Marinette."
"This is ridiculous!" Alix said throwing her hands up in the air. "I can't even see the difference between them Mylene! What's even the point of this?"
"The point is this is the type of stuff that the King is going to be watching and we agreed to help Marinette."
"No offense, but who CARES what the King thinks. Adrien has made it more than clear that he likes Marinette and nothing's going to change that. I think she's cool." Alix stopped realized what she said and blushed slightly when Marinette gave her a smile. "Well I do...stop looking at me like that.."
"Thanks Alix, but sadly that won't be enough." Marinette stood from her chair. "It's not just thst I'm doing this for Adrien because I feel like he deserves a Queen who will be more of a help rather than a burden. I'm also doing this for my sake." She walked over to the window. "Even as a mermaid I was constantly told that I wasn't good enough at being the thing I was supposed to be and I'm tired of that, for once I want to prove them wrong and show that I could be anything I put my heart to and there's nothing they can do to change that. I may not have been born a human, but that doesn't mean I'm incapable of doing the things a human can." She turned back to the girls. "We've got one more day to go, I want to work my hardest today and maybe Ican FINALLY go on that picnic with Adrien..."
"Alright then, lets go through the utensils one more time, then we'll go meet Ivan in the ballroom for one last waltz lesson." Mylene guided Marinette back to the table. "You really are doing great Marinette, even if the King doesn't think so I know Adrien would be so happy to know you've been working so hard for him."
Marinette smiled. "Well...lets hope that for both of our futures sake that all this work will be enough.."
Adrien closed the door and slapped his forehead before sliding down to the ground. He couldn't believe it, that this whole time she was just trying to prepare for that dumb test from his father and she was doing it so she wouldn't be a burden as his Queen.
He wants to charge in there and tell her that she'd never be a burden, that he didn't care if she wasn't 'normal' in most people's eyes and he definitely wanted to remove that nonsense from her mind about not being good enough.
She was perfect to him and he wished he did a better job at showing her that, but now she's worked all week trying to prepare herself for tomorrow. He couldn't possibly tell her to drop it all now.
No matter how tomorrow went, he swore that he'd marry Marinette. She was the girl of his dreams and the only one that made his heart increase at the near sight of her even before he realized that she had been the one.
They belonged together and they were going to be together, even if that meant he'd have to give up the crown.
She was worth it.
