One of my readers asked for Emma and Killian's wedding with a side of protective Daddy Charming. I'm sorry this took me so long to upload for you but I hope you'll enjoy it. I found that it was better to split the chapter into the two different parts of your request, so here's Part 1 for you all.
David held a red silk tie to his neck. He twisted back and forth, staring at his reflection in the mirror for a second before he turned away and threw the fabric down onto the bed, where four different coloured ties were already resting.
"Are you - what's all this?" Mary-Margaret asked, as she made her way into the room, flicking her shrewd gaze between her husband and the mess of clothing he'd left on their bed.
"I'm just trying to find a tie," David explained, reaching for the next one in his pile. It was forest-green in colour.
"Why?"
David turned away from the mirror at the sound of his wife's question to level her with a confused stare. "Our daughter's getting married in a few days. I need a tie for the wedding."
Mary-Margaret snorted out a laugh before taking the silk from her husband's hands. "I'm well aware of that," she told him, reaching up to grab onto his shoulders so that she could turn him around to face her. "I went with Emma to pick out her wedding dress, remember? Which is how I know that you won't be needing one of these. They're getting married on a boat, David. Not in a church."
"I know that. I just…"
Mary-Margaret waited silently for her husband to finish his train of thought. She knew him well enough to understand that his fuss over a tie was covering up something else that was on his mind. She also knew that trying to force him to admit to whatever it was would be like pulling teeth. Instead of coercing the confession from him, it was better to let David make it in his own time.
"She's getting married," he eventually whispered, while his wife was busy touching up her lipstick and checking over her hair.
"I know, Honey. We gave Killian our blessing to ask her to marry him, remember?"
"Of course I do. I just… I wasn't expecting it to happen so fast," David finally admitted, as he dropped down heavily onto the end of the bed.
With the packed calendar for the snooker season that year, and given how well Killian had been playing, he and Emma had struggled to find a date for their wedding day. Emma hadn't wanted him to drop out of a tournament just to say their vows, and Killian could never guarantee how far he'd go in each one. Eventually, he'd suggested waiting until after the World Championships the following year. It was the only free time he really had as a professional in the sport, and it would give them both enough time to plan the wedding of Emma's dreams!
But that was over a year away, and Emma hadn't wanted to wait that long to marry the man she loved. So after a brief conversation with her mother, and another with Killian's best friend August, she'd finally proposed her own solution to Killian a month after they'd gotten engaged. Emma had found a couple of weeks in March where her fiancé wouldn't be required to play any of the scheduled tournaments, so she'd suggested that the two of them take the opportunity to escape for a couple of weeks before the chaos of the World Championships began - and maybe get married on a beach while they were there.
Killian had only objected long enough to suggest inviting their closest friends and family, as he hadn't wanted to alienate Emma's parents with an elopement, before sweeping her into his arms to show Emma just how much he loved her.
While he'd been busy competing in (and winning) the German Masters earlier that year, Emma had enlisted her mother's help to plan her dream wedding. A little over two months later, they'd all boarded a flight to Mauritius where the ceremony would be taking place at the end of the week.
"I thought you liked Killian," Mary-Margaret pressed, not quite understanding why her husband seemed to be acting the way he was that evening. So far, the holiday had gone perfectly to plan. Mary-Margaret and David had agreed to finalise all of the details for their daughter and her fiancé, while they were on the island, because they wanted to give the happy couple the opportunity to enjoy some much-needed quality time together before their big day. David hadn't seemed put out while they were meeting with the wedding planner to discuss the flower arrangements for the small reception, or when they'd visited the catamaran their daughter would say her vows on, to get a feel for its layout. So she was a little confused by what had changed in the two days that had passed since then.
"I do. He's a great guy and he worships Emma. I couldn't have asked for a better son-in-law. I just… she asked him to open that jar of marmalade at breakfast this morning."
David's confession left Mary-Margaret more confused than ever before
"She always used to ask me," he explained. "I was the man she'd go to whenever she needed something and now… I'm not gonna be that person anymore, Mary. I know it's stupid. I know she doesn't need me anymore. At least, not like she did when she was a kid. I'm just not sure if I'm ready to lose her."
"You're not gonna lose her," Mary-Margaret assured him, as she made her way over to stand in between her husband's legs. Her hands found their way to his face and she cupped it gently as she tilted his chin up, so that David's eyes would be forced to meet her own. "Killian will never be able to fill the place that you hold in Emma's life. He might be the person she goes to for jar-opening and to hold her when she's upset in the future, but you'll always be her dad, and Emma's never going to forget everything you've done for her. She's never going to stop loving you or needing you, David. She's just going to need different things from you now."
David nodded his head in understanding before turning it to press a kiss to his wife's palm. "When did you get so smart?" he teased, as he tried to blink away the moisture that had gathered in the corners of his eyes.
"I've always been smart. It's just taken you this long to notice it," his wife threw back at him, before leaning in to offer David a gentle kiss. "Now, if you've finished wallowing, we have a dinner to get to, remember?"
She took a step back and away from the bed to give her husband enough space to rise.
"Coming, Dear," David teased, with a small smile dancing over his lips. He reached for her hand and let his wife guide them both from their hotel room as all thoughts of ties for the ceremony completely vanished.
Three days later, David didn't hesitate to place his daughter's hand into Killian's as he gave her away to the man that would spend the rest of his life worshipping Emma Swan.
