ANNND ENTER: OVERHAUL!

You know, I really considered Shigaraki to be nothing more than a wuss with absolute zero maturity until the Overhaul arc when he finally started acting like a villain (and his age, lol). Also, just on a side note *SPOILERS* The 'big bad' of the School Festival arc is hilarious compared to the absolute psychopathy of Shigaraki and Overhaul, but, I'm digging it anyway and can't wait to see Gentle Criminal in action... even if he legit spills hot tea on himself every time he attempts to pour it. PS. He's 32? WHAT?

Call Me… Deku

Chapter 55

"Hey there, friend!" Mirio exclaimed.

"What the fuck?!" The younger blonde practically yelped, jumping back like a frightened cat at the sight of a face popping out of the ground. He stumbled over more words when Mirio simply laughed and fully emerged, hastily reaching for the clothes he'd slipped out of earlier to pull his little prank.

"Sorry, sorry! I just wanted to talk to you, that's all!" Mirio explained once he was decent. "Tamaki said that you were super collected when I was hammering your classmates and I heard you call out advice to them even if they weren't able to use it."

"Tsk, yeah…" Bakugo grumbled as he recollected himself. "What of it?"

"Walk with me, hm?"

Bakugo clicked his tongue even as he readjusted his backpack and began following. They continued in silence for a good several minutes, traversing the campus at a leisurely pace—something that absolutely set Bakugo's teeth on edge; the least they could do was walk with purpose.

"Have you heard of Sir Nighteye?"

The younger blonde perked up considerably at the question. Of course he knew who that was; All Might had been his all-time favorite hero growing up and he knew everything about him, including the one and only person he'd ever had as a sidekick. He nodded, his curiosity peaking.

"I'm actually doing my internship with him; it's awesome… Sir is such a funny guy even though most people don't get to see that side of him. Honestly, I wouldn't be half the prospective hero I am today without having had his guidance."

"He always looks so serious…" Bakugo hummed, trying to imagine that intense gaze cracking with laughter.

Mirio chuckled and stopped walking, twisting to lay a large hand on Bakugo's shoulder. "I'd like to introduce you to him."

Bakugo could do little more than blink at the statement. He'd been nervous as hell about getting to go on an internship since Best Jeanist was on leave and he hadn't exactly left the best impression during the Sports Festival. Since he'd just about finished up his provisional license remedial courses, this could be his chance!

"Don't get too excited, because he hasn't agreed to take you on yet, or even meet you… But I think he'd be impressed with your passion. So, what do you say?"

The younger blonde swallowed thickly before answering. "Y-yeah… thanks…"

Tamaki stared at the table he'd taken Shinso to nervously, neither having spoken since their initial greeting. "This would be so much easier with Mirio here… or even Hado…"

"Is there something in particular you wanted to speak with me about?" Shinso questioned, eyeing the abnormally shy third year warily. "Or…"

"Y-you c-could come w-with me to my agency f-for your um…" Tamaki attempted, swallowing thickly from the unwavering stare he felt he was being cut down by. "I-internship?"

Shinso blinked in surprise. He knew nothing about Tamaki other than the rather pitiful introduction he'd gotten during their class, but if he was truly one of UA's 'Big Three' that meant he was likely interning with a top pro… With the state of the world and his uncertain place in it now that Deku had not so subtly begun attempting to coerce him into villainy, it could be a great opportunity to see if he really was cut out for hero work.

"You'd introduce me to the hero you work under?" he breathed with tempered excitement. "You think my quirk would be suitable?"

"Uhm…" Tamaki gulped, "I don't actually know what your q-quirk is… But Fatgum wants a close combat fighter and you seemed to do well in the s-ports festival this year…"

Shinso somewhat dampened at that; people had a tendency to think he was way less cool once they truly realized the nature of his quirk. Sure, heroes had cheered him on at the Festival, but it was a whole different story when you were walking next to someone that could force you to do anything.

"I brainwash my targets…" he admitted lowly. "I'm only a close-range fighter when I'm unable to use my quirk on someone or to subdue them after it's in effect."

The elder student was already on edge from just having a conversation, so Shinso wasn't certain that his declaration didn't have an effect, but it didn't seem that Tamaki was any less on board with introducing him to his boss.

"I'll t-tell Fatgum you'll be stopping by then…" he murmured, getting up to leave.

Shinso's mind whirled quickly and he stood as well, gripping the sleeve of Tamaki's shirt tightly. "Wait…" he pleaded, hoping he was making a good decision. "Can we bring one more person along?"

"Thank you for allowing me to assist you tonight, Deku…" Todoroki murmured, watching as the young villain drew what he assumed was an outline of Overhaul in his notebook. "I won't disappoint you."

Midoriya hummed lightly, green eyes flickering to the collar that still hung around Todoroki's black and blue neck. Since he wasn't sure what to expect for this introductory meeting, he'd tweaked how much quirk output Todoroki could accomplish before having the vial empty and cut off his abilities.

"Deku, may I ask why it is you've covered yourself in bandages for this meeting?" Mr. Compress questioned, earning himself a chuckle from his leader.

"Well, the only time I've been out since regenerating was getting my mom and the media didn't say anything about the fact that I'd healed… As far as Chisaki and everyone else is concerned, I'm heavily injured and vulnerable." Midoriya explained silkily. "People show their true colors when they're around someone like that…"

"Ah, I see!" Mr. Compress responded, "A visual sleight of hand to get a sense of the man we're attempting to recruit!"

"Mhmm… Pretty sneaky, I know, but I get the feeling this 'young head of the Yakuza' is someone that exploits anything he can; I'd like to see what he thinks he can get out of me."

As if on cue, Twice's voice could be heard contradicting himself just outside the warehouse. Though he didn't say it out loud, Midoriya felt certain his predictions about the Yakuza leader were correct the moment he saw him; his eyes were those of a killer.

Chisaki seemed civil enough as they began their mostly one-sided discussion, Midoriya never hinting at his growing irritation with the elder villains rather insulting views on him and the League of Villains. Despite his belief that he could take the Yakuza boss in a head-on fight, he had no doubt that there was backup lurking around somewhere; he certainly wouldn't have shown up without assurances if their positions were reversed.

"Right now, for both those in the sun and those in the shadows, there is no leader. So then, who will it be?" Chisaki continued, leaving no doubt that it was rhetorical.

Midoriya tilted his gauze covered head and smiled, blinking innocently. "I'm not certain I understand your logic, Overhaul. I think it's obvious with All For One in prison and his powers entrusted to me, I'm the obvious choice."

"One would think that until they see you covered from head to toe with bandages. The big boss villain might have assumed you'd be a suitable replacement for him, but your body was too weak to succeed him and your actions reveal a total lack of vision. I, however, have both a plan and perfect health."

"You'd dare suggest Deku doesn't know what he's doing?" Todoroki seethed, frost already creeping up his neck from rage. He kept his temper mostly in check, however, as Midoriya hadn't given him an order to attack yet.

"Yes…" Chisaki answered coolly. "Stain, Muscular, Moonfish… They were all first-class game pieces, and you lost them right away, didn't you? Did you not know how to use them?"

Magne finally lost her temper at his arrogant words, jumping from her seat as she brandished her weapon and began charging. "I'm here because I won't be bound by anything!"

"Enough."

The room fell silent immediately, Chisaki's body stalling as Magne ceased pulling him towards her. Deku slowly got off the crate he'd been sitting on, pretending to be sore as he hobbled forward. "Let's not be rude, Magne, Shoto. Overhaul is our guest and is only speaking his mind… We don't want a full-on brawl between our two groups, do we?"

Chisaki narrowed his eyes at Deku, snapping his gloved fingers for his followers to show themselves since it seemed the young villain had noticed their presence. The wall behind him exploded with the group pouring in, their stances set on attacking despite the cease-fire order given to the opposing side.

"I agree…" Chisaki drawled, waving off their threatening behavior. "We shouldn't fight among ourselves; the stronger leader will come out on top in the end. Why don't we meet again when tempers aren't so high? You can call me after you've had time to think about my offer…"

Midoriya smiled sweetly at his newest rival, nodding for Twice to take the card being offered. "I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon."

"Why did you let him talk to you—to us—like that, Deku?" Magne questioned hotly as she paced around their hideout in a rage. "That Yakuza scum—"

"Is much better at combat than you, Magne." Midoriya cut in, eyeing his subordinate warningly. "Had I not intervened, you'd likely have been killed and I would have had to show my hand before I was ready to. There's still time to win him to our side if that's what I determine is best for our organization."

"And if it's not?" Toga huffed, moody that she'd been unable to go to the meeting due to 'maternity leave'. "What then?"

"Then we hit him where it hurts, of course."

"Deku… You can't… I don't want you to come around for a bit, alright?" Bakugo mumbled lowly as he pet the boy's sex-mused hair.

The young villain's previously calm breathing hitched for a moment before he pushed himself up to stare down at his lover in hurt confusion. "Why, Kacchan? Did I do something—"

"No, nerd. Fuck…" Bakugo scoffed, finding it ridiculous Midoriya could think anything would drive a wedge between them at this point. "Remember how I told you Mr. Aizawa brought up internships a while ago and the Big Three dropped in our class last week? Mirio, UA's Number 1, asked me to go to his agency with him to see if his boss would take me on."

"Mirio…" Midoriya mumbled. "He's the really excitable blonde right? The one that goes by the hero name 'Lemillion'?"

"Tsk, hell if I know. I block out half of the stupid shit he says because it's so damn cringy." Bakugo snorted. "Anyway, he works for Nighteye and I'm not sure how his foresight power works, but…"

The young villain sighed with understanding; he didn't know too much about All Might's previous sidekick either since the man kept a tight lid on the intricacies of his quirk. It would indeed be really bad if he happened to use it on Bakugo and see his villain ass creeping into bed with one of UA's prospective heroes.

"I guess I can keep my needs in check for a little while…" he hummed dramatically, kissing up the blonde's jawline. "But I still expect texting so, just make sure whatever he sees with his quirk doesn't let on to who you're talking to, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah… I'll be careful."

Midoriya kept staring down at him though, wheels turning behind his glittering green eyes. "Is there something else bothering you, Kacchan?"

The blonde huffed again and sat up, resting his back against his headboard as he thought about how he should word what was on his mind. Amajiki had apparently agreed to Hitoshi's request to bring Eijiro along with them when they met with Fatgum and he knew that Mei would load him up with support tech but… What if something happened and he accidentally activated the quirk he wasn't supposed to have any more?

It had seemed like a blessing when Deku had given it back to Kirishima, but it seemed more like a calculated ultimatum at this point. The redhead could either live as a hero and pretend not to have a quirk, or expose its return and risk being branded as a traitor.

"Eijiro's in a tough spot, Deku." Bakugo eventually explained, alluding to the situation. "He's going to be interviewing with Fatgum along with Hitoshi and—"

"And you're worried because he'll be patrolling and might use his quirk." Midoriya finished for him, humming with false concern. "That's tough…"

Bakugo peered down at his lover as he pretended to pick his nails, wondering what was running through his calculating mind. "Please, Deku. I know you could figure out a way to 'give his quirk back' without anyone knowing it's already happened… without making it seem like he sided with the villains since he never actually did."

"Are you sure that's what you want, Kacchan?" Midoriya questioned after a moment, turning his gaze to the blonde almost daringly. "Anyone who isn't on my side when I make my true debut is bound to suffer… I can't promise that Kirishima will be immune to whatever it is I decide to do."

"I know that, Deku… but I trust you'll make the right decision about what needs to happen, just… think about it, for me?"

Midoriya hummed again but nodded, pulling Bakugo down to him for another kiss.
