Chapter Seven: A Break

Sometime during the week after her arrival, Tetsumi had started to accompany her father and mother to the office. When she first arrived, she received curious glances from the people who didn't know her identity. The ones who were more observant than others made the connection between the parents and daughter and were left speechless. They didn't know that they had a daughter, but they couldn't deny the facts in front of them.

She found this whole ordeal to be quite funny and she made sure to tell her parents that.

"This is so amusing," she commented while sitting in her father's couch in his office. "If I had known how fun working here would be, I would've asked to do it sooner."

Her father chuckled. "At least now you know."

Her mother, who was seated at the chairs across of her father's desk smiled.

"How are you doing, dear? I know you're still recovering, and I don't want you to overdo it," her mother said with a concerned look on her face. Tetsumi felt warm and very comfortable in her parents' presence and she gave a small smile.

"Ah, don't worry, Mother. This is nothing, really."

Her mother didn't seem convinced, but she conceded and hoped that everything went smoothly today.

After a few more moments of lounging, Tetsumi stood up from the couch and smiled at her parents.

"Where are you going?" her father questioned.

"I'll be roaming around, I'll be observing, and I will ask Hiro to accompany me," Tetsumi replied. Her parents hesitantly let her go but made her promise to rest if she felt like she was feeling tired. She smiled and like that they were concerned, but at the same time, she wished they didn't coddle her too much. She was an adult after all.

She walked outside of the office and stood in the hallway to call Hiro. Once again nosy people who wanted to know who she was kept staring at her. She grew a little annoyed, but she reminded herself that this was nothing new. Hiro had told her that he'd be with her in about ten minutes, so she leaned against the wall and started humming a tune to pass the time.

It felt a little peaceful and nice, but sadly, that didn't last too long.

A brave young man walked in front of her and glared. She grew irritated once again because he was in her personal space and he was blocking her view. As an assassin, both of these things seriously put her on edge. It didn't help that she was injured.

"May I help you," she said monotonously. She returned his glare and the man's eyes seemed to have narrowed even more.

"Who are you? You can't be in here unless you have authorization or if you're a guest. You're obviously not a guest because someone would be accompanying you, so who are you?" the man questioned. Tetsumi laughed internally at his ignorance and raised an elegant eyebrow.

The people who were standing and knew who Tetsumi was winced and facepalmed at his ignorance. How could he not know who she was? Even if she wasn't the successor to the Yoshido's fortune and power, she was still someone very high up in Akashi Enterprise, and that alone makes her a very powerful person.

"I'm afraid It's hardly any of your business," she responded. She wasn't in the mood to entertain any ignorant fool. The people watching flinched at her tone, the man has official annoyed the Yoshida Princess. Things weren't looking so bright for him.

"Excuse me?" the man questioned, he glared at Tetsumi once again before realization came on his face. "Oh wait! I know who you are! You're Kuroko Tetsumi!"

"Yes, and what about it."

"How do I know that you're not here to spy on us? I wouldn't put I pass you bastards from Akashi Enterprise to do something like this." The man scoffed and looked at her with disdain on his face.

"Why would I, a person who holds a high rank in the company, want to come here all the way to Tokyo to spy when I have obligations and duties there in Kyoto," she retorted.

The man was going to say something but froze after realizing she had a point.

"I should just call security—"

"No, you won't," Hiro interrupted. He walked over to Tetsumi and frowned at the man. "Eito, do you know who you just offended, accused, and bothered!?"

Tetsumi looked at the man in surprise, she wasn't expecting him to be upset. She smiled once she realized that Hiro was like her second father. Even if he never wanted to overstep and admit it, they both know that they see each other as family. Even Ogiwara since Hiro basically raised the two when they were younger.

"H-Hiro-san? Of course I know who she is! She is Kuroko Tetsumi!" the man, Eito, replied looking at Hiro like he grew a second head. He couldn't understand why Hiro had interrupted.

"Even then you still said all those things? May I remind you just exactly how powerful she is. Not only is she one of the people who run the company, she is also very important to the heir of the Akashi empire and fortune!" Tetsumi blushed at the comment about her being important to the red head, but it went unnoticed by everyone.

Eito paled a little once he realized the severity of it all, but Hiro was not done.

"But that's not all there is to her. She is not just Kuroko Tetsumi you fool; she was born Yoshida Tetsumi, she is the heir to the company and the one who will be your boss in the near future!"

Eito's eyes widened at the revelation, and he kept looking back and forth between Hiro and Tetsumi in shock.

"No way…" he replied weakly, he was trembling in his spot and looked ready to pass out.

"Are you really that clueless?" Tetsumi finally spoke up after a while. Eito looked at her and whimpered. Pathetic is what she thought internally, but she kept her face neutral. "I go by my mother's maiden name and I look like a carbon copy of my father, just female."

Tetsumi scoffed. "You have some nerve coming up to me and accusing me of things in a building that I own. While I normally wouldn't mind something as this, something about you just really annoys me."

She glared at Eito.

"What department are you in," she questioned, she made a mental note to have Hiro report him.

"M-Marketing."

She turned to Hiro and he had a small smirk.

"Hiro, please make sure you report him to my father after we both make our rounds."

"Yes, Tetsumi-sama," Hiro replied dutifully before he bowed. They both left Eito standing there, shaking and trembling. Tetsumi felt satisfaction once she put that man in his place. It worried her to be thinking this way, but another part of her told her it was the right thing to do.

"Hiro," Tetsumi whispered as they walked through the office building. "Who gave him a recommendation letter to be promoted to such a high position? I don't know his exact position, but if he's able to freely roam the floor where my father's office is, surely he is someone high within the company."

"That he is. I believe it was Tachibana Kei-san who did," Hiro replied.

"I knew there was a reason why I didn't like him. His whole demeanor screamed 'scum' to me. He probably has ties to Tachibana," she sneered. She's been a little snappier lately, maybe it's the stress, maybe it's not, but her patience has been thinning.

"You could probably tell that he was," Hiro added in his two cents. Tetsumi nodded and was led to the many different departments within the company.

Hiro was taking her on tour and introducing her to everyone within the office. Hopefully an incident like the one before won't happen again. Thankfully, nothing bad happened again, and she was able to tour the whole building without any other incident. For Hiro's sake though, he brought up something to Tetsumi that he was meaning to suggest for some time.

"Ah, Princess, I think I may have Ogiwara accompany you during your stay here," Hiro brought up to the Yoshida successor. "Maybe even in Kyoto."

"Hiro, he is the head of Indigo, he can't possibly follow me around everywhere, especially Kyoto," Tetsumi replied, they were sitting in the break room after their tour to pass the time. Afterwards, she would be starting her duties there.

"I'm sure Ogiwara-kun would agree with me if he knew just how much trouble you get yourself into," Hiro said while preparing some tea for her. She smiled and shook her head in exasperation, Hiro could be such a mother hen sometimes. She really appreciated his concern though.

"Fine," she finally conceded. "He can guard me while I'm here, but he won't be following me to Kyoto. If you really want someone to guard me, I can bring it up to Akashi. He would probably agree."

"Knowing Akashi-sama, he'd want to be the one to protect you," Hiro added in while he brought Tetsumi's tea for her. He moved away to stand near her in case she needed anything, but a pointed look from her had him hesitantly sit across from her.

"True."

"I should also report Eito to Akashi-sama," Hiro muttered absentmindedly. Tetsumi hummed before she sipped on her tea. Hiro brought out his phone and added that to his to-do list.

They sat in silence while Tetsumi finished her tea before they both left to go do Tetsumi's duties.

The pair made their way to Indigo's office where Ogiwara was working.

She opened the door and smiled at her childhood friend. "Shige!"

"Ah, Tetsumi-chan, you saw me the day before yesterday. Did you miss me already?" Ogiwara joked while he gently pulled her in for a hug. He smiled at Hiro and waved once he pulled back from the hug.

"Hiro! How's acting as Tetsumi's babysitter going again."

Hiro laughed lightly while Tetsumi swatted the backside of Ogiwara's head.

"I don't mind," Hiro replied before looking at Ogiwara with a smirk on his face. "This brings me to my reason for visiting you. Could you guard Tetsumi while she's here." Hiro began to explain what happened earlier and voiced his thoughts to the Head of Indigo. Throughout the whole story Ogiwara's generally cheerful expression turned into a serious one. He didn't like Eito at all and hearing the things he said to his childhood friend added fuel to the fire.

"I'll gladly guard Tetsumi-chan while she's still here," he said. "I hope I won't have to worry about the person who will take over this duty when you're in Kyoto." This was directed the assassin who simply just lazily waved her hand in dismissal.

"Shige, you know the people I work with, especially Akashi-kun."

"Ah, true."

"Well, we need to part ways here. I already forwarded your schedule and duties for today to your phone and Ogiwara-kun's as well. I have some things your father needs me to attend to, so I leave you in Ogiwara-kun's care," Hiro said before he bowed.

"I understand, I won't fail you Hiro!"

"Thank you, Hiro."

Once Hiro left, Tetsumi looked at Ogiwara and grinned. "Shige, we should get going too."

Ogiwara and Tetsumi walked through the office while doing all the things her father asked her to. Sometimes she would have to supervise the training of some new employees, other times she'd have to attend to meetings, and another thing she had to do was sign paperwork.

It wasn't too hard, and she liked doing some of the tasks. While usually people in her position wouldn't have to do something like supervise new employees, she was glad her father asked her to do it. It wasn't too hard of a task and she appreciated that she wasn't stuck in a desk for the whole day.

Having Ogiwara by her side made the day pass by faster and without too much trouble. He would crack jokes while she signed paperwork or would make funny faces at her during meetings. He brightened up her day and she was grateful for it.

Recent events have left her stressed out, and she forgot how it felt to be carefree.

Right now, she was about to attend her last meeting of the day before she was able to go home. It was a just a boring meeting that didn't spark her interest.

The pair quietly walked into the meeting room and saw that everyone was waiting for them. They all got up and bowed to greet Tetsumi as she made her way to the head of the table while Ogiwara sat to her right. After exchanging a few more pleasantries, they finally began the meeting.

She wasn't really invested in the meeting. Nothing seemed wrong and everything was smoothly running. Their newest project was doing well, and it seemed like there was another project that they were planning to start on in a few years. All seemed well until the man who was currently speaking brought up a name that had Tetsumi's eyes widened.

"What?" she said before she realized what she was doing. "Whose recent reports haven't been matching up with reports of others?"

The man who she interrupted looked at her with wide eyes before he recovered and answered the question.

"Tachibana Kei, ma'am."

"I see… thank you…" she trailed off once she realized she didn't know his name.

"Kenji," the man replied after he realized she was indirectly asking for his name.

"Ah, thank you Kenji-san. If you don't mind, I'd like to talk to you more after this meeting."

She smiled at his confused face.

"I don't mind."

"Very well then, I apologize for interrupting. Please continue."

She shared a look with Ogiwara and the man nodded. It seems like Ogiwara has heard the same things. The meeting didn't continue long after that and Tetsumi paid attention throughout the rest of it. Once everyone finished, she quickly dismissed them while Kenji stayed behind.

"Kenji-san, could you give me all the data you have on Tachibana?" Tetsumi asked getting straight to the point. Kenji shifted in his chair and fiddled with his collar feeling a bit uncomfortable. Having these two powerful people want to talk to him made him nervous.

"Uhm, yes I can Tetsumi-sama," Kenji affirmed while nodding his head.

"And I can be assured that you won't say a word about this request, right?" Ogiwara spoke up, gaining the attention of the other two in the room. He had a smile on his face and while it looked pleasant, his cold eyes said something different. Kenji shivered and knew that he shouldn't cross these two.

"You don't have to worry, sir. I don't really like Tachibana myself, so I am also willing to do anything to assist you," Kenji declared. Tetsumi's interest in the man sparked while Ogiwara nodded, clearly approving of the man. He could potentially be a big help to her in the future. She was pleased and internally smirked.

Interesting.

"Okay, Kenji-san, I have a mission for you."

Kenji nodded and Tetsumi had a barely noticeable smile on her face.

"Please watch Tachibana Kei closely and report anything and everything to Shige-kun here," she continued while pointing to her childhood friend. "I won't be in Tokyo after this week so I'm counting on you, Shige, and Hiro to assist me with this."

"I understand."

"Do we have a deal, Kenji-san?"

"I accept this offer, Tetsumi-sama."

Tetsumi's smile widened and she stuck out her hand to Kenji. Kenji took it and shook it while Ogiwara just offered him a smile.

"Good."

The pair stood up and left the room before Kenji did the same. He would be very busy now and had a lot of things to do so he wanted to head home and rest before the storm comes and sweeps him off his feet. This whole thing was scary and unexpected, but he knew that he had some important people backing him right now.

Tetsumi was glad she had another person in Tokyo to keep track of that man. She could return to Kyoto without worrying about him trying anything to the company. Now that Ogiwara was aware of him, he could help Hiro with dealing with him. He would have to be disposed of before she took over, or else he's going to be a huge thorn in her side.

It's better to cut the thorns off the rose now before things could get dangerous for her.
