Steve McGarrett walked towards his office in the Palace. He noticed Danny sitting behind his desk in his own office, a bemused and slightly disgruntled look on his face. He remembered Danny had mentioned his plans for the previous evening, and his curiosity got the better of him. He stuck his head around the door frame.

"So, Danno, how did the date go last night?"

Danny scowled slightly. "It didn't."

Steve raised an eyebrow at that. "What happened, she stand you up?"

Danny sighed. "Nope, I took her home on the way to the restaurant."

Steve laughed in sympathy, "Oh, man! What the heck happened?"

Danny leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "She asked me a question."

Steve stepped into the room and settled into the chair across from Danny. This was getting interesting! "Musta been a helluva question."

Danny grimaced. "It was."

Steve smirked at the pained expression on his partner's expressive face. "So, what, she asked you to marry her or something?"

Danny shook his head. "No, worse, actually. She gave me advice about police procedure."

It was Steve's turn to scowl in confusion. "What? Are you kidding me? She's not a cop, is she?"

Danny rubbed the back of his neck and looked at his best friend. "Nope. She's a schoolteacher. That's the worst part."

Steve shook his head. "Look, brah, you're killin' me here. What did she say?"

Danny couldn't help but chuckle as he recounted the date-breaking conversation…

"We were on the way to the restaurant, and Cindy says to me, 'You know, I really don't see what's so hard about police work, anyway.' So, I asked her, 'What do you mean by that?' And she says, 'Well, I mean, why don't you just ask the dead person. Then you could just go arrest the murderer.'"

Steve looked at Danny incredulously for a moment and then slowly nodded, a look of amusement on his face. He stood up, walked to the door and quietly made his way to his own office.

Sometimes there was just not much you could say at a moment like that.
