The walk back home was silent, as usual. Only the noises brought by the wind accompanying them.
The walk was slower than usual, too. Last night it had rained, making the dirt way back to the Asakura household muddy, and plenty of ponds were around, threatening to wet Anna's shoes. She primly avoided them, with graceful moves that characterized her as an Itako.
"You know, Anna, you don't have to avoid them all...some of them aren't deep at all" Yoh's voice startled her, making her stumble a little.
She then noticed that he was still by her side. She had expected him to get ahead, since avoiding the ponds was definitely slowing her down. And as she noticed by looking at his feet, he definitely didn't cared about stepping into the ponds - she was going to make him take a bath as soon as they got home.
She avoided another pond and looked at him. "You should be the one avoiding them. You're the one wearing sandals." She retorted.
Yoh blinked and looked down, as if noticing for the first time that he, indeed, was wearing sandals while splashing into the ponds. He smiled. "It's not so bad."
Anna raised an eyebrow. "Not so bad? Your feet are all dirty. How can *that* be "not so bad"?" she inquired.
Then, an idea struck him. And with a mischievous grin, he moved a bit ahead of her to the largest pond around, and jumped on it, splashing all around him - but making sure not even a drop splashed Anna.
And to her wide eyes, he only grinned. "Because it's fun." He answered simply, splashing on the nearest pond.
Anna just stared at him with a raised eyebrow, as he blithely splashed around like a little kid would. "Fun?" It was a simple question, and to a simple question, Yoh only gave a simple answer.
"Fun" Was all he said, continuing to jump from pond to pond. "Why don't you try it?" He suggested with a smile.
Anna contemplated the question for a moment, until she nodded slowly and looked to her right - a small pond, not at all deep, and seemingly clean of any living creatures. Good enough.
And ever so slowly, she stepped into the pond, hardly making a riddle into the water's surface. Yoh sweat dropped. "Not like that..." But he was only met by a huge splash of water that soaked him from head to toe.
He slowly moved away the soaked bangs off his face, and saw a very amused Anna, staring at him. "Well, you're right. This is fun." She jumped to another pond, splashing him again.
Yoh grinned, noticing the small smile in her lips. "So this is how it's going to be, huh?" and promptly jumped into the nearest pond, this time forgetting to be careful not to splash her.
And he was met with the most beautiful sound he had ever heard in his life: a musical laughter that made him turn around to see a *very* wet Anna, laughing and splashing at him.
And he smiled at her, and splashed again.
Moments like those were scarce, and he was going to enjoy every minute of it. Because the moments you have to treasure the most, are the one that you spend with your loved one.
