"Anakin."
There was no response.
"Anakin I'm not going anywhere until you talk to me."
"I meant what I said," the second man finally responded to the first.
"So did I."
"Then there's nothing left to say Obi-wan."
"Yes there is. I need to tell you I'm sorry," Obi-wan said sadly.
The man he had called Anakin laughed, but there was no humor or amusement in the sound. It was harsh and bitter. "Of course you are, I won."
"Is it winning if you lost everyone you ever cared about? If you killed all those you loved with your own hands?" Obi-wan's face somehow managed to look even older and more tired in that moment, despite the fact that he was supposed to be at peace and one with the Force.
The harsh, black mask finally turned to look at him. "I just told you I meant what I said that day on Mustafar. I hate you Obi-wan Kenobi. I don't regret killing you."
Obi-wan's translucent face didn't change. It was still filled with sorrow and regret. "What about Padme?"
Darth Vader flinched but didn't respond. Even after all these years, it still hurt. Obi-wan regarded him silently for a moment before coming to a decision.
"Part of her still lives Anakin."
"I already know that Obi-wan. You think I haven't kept tabs on her sister? The Empire takes good care of Naboo," Darth Vader snapped. "And stop calling me that. It isn't my name anymore."
"I wasn't talking about her sister. I was talking about her son. The son of Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker," Obi wan said calmly.
The loud, mechanical breathing abruptly stopped and stuttered.
"WHAT?! But I- she- who- I have a son?!" Darth Vader, the most feared man in the galaxy, sputtered.
"No I said Anakin Skywalker has a son. You just said that's not your name anymore," Obi-wan said calmly.
Vader glared at him from under his mask. Obi-wan had no way of knowing that, but Vader knew he did somehow.
Obi-wan repressed the smirk that threatened to appear at Vader's annoyance and continued. "If you look inside yourself you'll know the truth." Then his eyes softened. "It's not too late to come back to the light. You aren't alone Anakin."
They sat in silence for a few moments.
"It's the rebel fighter pilot isn't it?" Vader asked.
Obi-wan stayed silent not wanting to endanger Luke and the other rebels more than was necessary.
Vader had known Obi-wan too long though. He knew that silence meant he was right. But Obi-wan was wrong. He always had been. About the Jedi, about the Dark Side, everything. And he was wrong now too. Vader couldn't return to the Light now, even if he wanted to. But… the pilot was young. Untrained. Undecided. Vader could convince him to join the Dark.
"Anakin-"
"Enough old man. I'm tired of your ramblings," Vader said turning his back on Obi-wan's translucent appearance.
Obi-wan waited a moment before he continued. "I meant what I said that day too Anakin. You were my brother. I always loved you."
There was a long silence.
"That's not my name anymore old man," Vader said before he stalked off down the hall, leaving Obi-wan alone in an empty hall.
