chapter 1

Brakedown was an old bot and widower, he had a son who he loved very much. His son was married to a nice femme. But soon his life changed forever.

One day an officer came to his door. "Yes what is it?" Brakedown asked.

"Brakedown I sorry to say this but your son and daughter in law have died in a bad accident." the officer said.

"No," Brakedown said.

"But they had a 2 month old son at their house. The other officer is bringing him up we found in their will they want you to care for him." the officer said.

The other officer handed him the sparkling. It was making baby noises. "His name is Clocker." other officer said.

Brakedown knew he had to be strong for his grandson. Clocker was going to be completely dependent on his grandfather.

Tonight was the first night. Clocker was crying and fusing the whole time.

"Come on shush, it's alright," Brakedown said. "It's okay, grandpa's here." he said.

Clocker had not stopped his crying since being brought to his grandfather's house. Brakedown had been trying to get him to calm down.

Brakedown soon found himself crying he could believe his son, his only child was gone and so was his daughter in law. He remembered that last time he went through grief like this when his wife died.

Brakedown knew had to be there for his grandson. It wasn't going to be easy but Brakedown knew he had to do it. He was all the family Clocker had.

When Clocker's crying continued. Brakedown decided a change of scenery might help. He went to his backyard and paced back in forth under the stars rocking Clocker.

A neighbor was sitting outside enjoying the night air. "Hey Brakedown." he said.

"Hi Overstretch." Brakedown said.

"I heard about your on and daughter in law I'm very sorry." he said.

"Thanks for your sympathy." Brakedown said.

Clocker was still crying. "There, there Clocker don't cry," Brakedown said.

"Clocker must be crying for his parents. You may be his grandfather but you hardly ever saw him. So to him you are a complete stranger." Overstretch said.

"I know, and I have to be there for him." Brakedown said.

"Might I suggest something?" Overstretch asked.

"What?" Brakedown asked.

"Is there song that was sung to him at times like this?" he asked.

"Yes the one my wife use to sing to my son and he taught to his wife and she sang it Clocker." Brakedown said.

"Try singing that same song to him it might help him calm down. Or trying shaking a rattle for him or just cuddle him for a while." Overstretch said.

"Okay," Brakedown said.

My little sparklight, the star glisten and twinkle to light the night, the shine of the stars will lull you into a gentle sleep, they will sprinkle stardust in your dreams making them sweet, now rest your head and drift into the land of dreams.

Brakedown had just finished singing the lullaby. Sure enough Clocker had calmed down to a very soft whine. "There, there," Brakedown said very softly.

"Thanks Overstretch." Brakedown said.

Brakedown went inside just as the sun came up. Brakedown began to warm up a bottle for Clocker, he had to fed. I almost forgot how hard caring for a sparkling is. Brakedown thought. He grabbed the bottle and tested it on wrist.

"Just right," he said.

Brakedown sat down in his favorite chair and began to feed Clocker. Clocker was suckling away on the bottle. He looked at his grandfather with big blue, sweet, and innocent optics.

"Don't worry Clocker grandpa will be here for you always." Brakedown said. Even though he knew wasn't true. But he knew if he took good care of himself he would live a long time.

Clocker drank about a third of the bottle before letting go. Brakedown knew he was finished. Then he placed Clocker up to his shoulder and began to pat his back. Clocker then burped loudly.

"There we go." Brakedown said.

Clocker yawn rather cutely.

Brakedown wasn't surprise. Clocker was up the whole night with his never ending crying. He put Clocker down in the crib. He turned on the baby monitor so he could here his grandson from anywhere in the house.

Brakedown also felt tired. He had been awake all night trying to soothe his infant grandson. Brakedown knew now that Clocker was asleep he could get some sleep. Brakedown went to sleep soon as his head touched the pillow.

Brakedown woke up to crying. He looked at the time it was almost noon. He went to Clocker to see what was wrong. He took him out of the crib and changed his diaper.

Brakedown fed Clocker again. Then he cuddled Clocker, rocked him, gave him bath, changed his diaper, and much more.

Once the day was done Brakedown was exhausted. But since Clocker was only two months old he would start crying every two hours. It was very tiring for an old man like Brakedown. But he knew he had to do it no matter how tired he was.

Over the next couple of days his neighbors noticed how tired Brakedown was.

"Brakedown you need to get some sleep." Overstretch said.

"But Clocker, he needs so much care." Brakedown said rocking the fussing sparkling.

"I know he does, but your going to ruin your health." Overstretch said. "I think you need a baby sitter to watch Clocker while you get some much needed shut eye." he said.

"Okay," Brakedown said.

He found a babysitter she was one of the most trusted and dependable.

"Okay, I will look after little Clocker while you sleep." she said.

"Thanks Startout." he said.

Brakedown took a nice long nap.

Startout was tending to Clocker who was getting a bit fussy. Good thing that Startout was an Experienced baby sitter.

Brakedown woke up and saw Clocker being fed.

"You look well rested." Startout said.

"Thanks, hows Clocker doing?" Brakedown said.

"He's fine, he was no trouble." she said.

Later that even Brakedown was rocking in his rocking chair with Clocker in his arms singing the lullaby. Brakedown held his grandson close to his spark. He hoped he could raise him into fine bot even though he had to do it all on his own.

To be continued.
