The sound of an alarm clock going off woke her up. "Five more minutes mommy." Came a sleepy reply to the alarm. Patting around her nightstand she found the clock and turned it off. Deep amethyst eyes slowly opened as she stared at her simple cedar nightstand for a moment before she finally began to get out of bed. Her waist long auburn hair was done up in a loose braid that hung gently over her left shoulder. She quickly began to get herself dressed for work leaving exchanging the loose braid for a low ponytail. By the time she was finish getting dress soft moon light had begun to spill through her window giving everything in her small bedroom a unearthly glow.

'Looks like another gorgeous night. So what's going to go wrong tonight.' She thought to herself as she began to collect the items she would need for work. After a quick look in the mirror and confirming that everything was in place she headed out. It only took her about fifteen minutes to get to walk to the building where she worked. Stopping just before a long set of stone steps that led to the main building.

The white marble of the building seem to glow with a light of its own the bold onyx lettering read Paradise City Police Department looked almost like a stain on the white building, the normally bustling stairway was all but devote of life due to the late hour the day shift had left and with them all the admin personal as well. With a sigh she began to climb the stairs and made the short walk to her office on the first floor.

Fumbling with her keys for a moment she opened a cheap wooden door with a panel of frosted glass with gold lettering that read Detective Akeru Kitsune Homicide special division. Akeru had just sat down when one of the other officers knocked on the door.

"Come in." she replied with a sigh. There was only one reason why she was being disturbed this soon after getting in.

"Good evening detective sorry to disturb you so soon but, we have another body" The officer said a small amount of fear could be heard in his voice as he handed her the file. Akeru wasn't known for being very nice first thing after getting in, she thanked him before she went about reading the file.

'Looks like our blood thirsty critter has struck again. Great.' She thought bitterly placing the file on her desk resting her face in her hand.

Akeru is the head of a very special branch of the homicide department, also known as the spook squad. Their job was investigate murders done by supernatural critters, or by supernatural means as well, or so the rumors go. Everyone who worked for her was here for one of two reason, disciplinary reasons or just plain human curiosity. She didn't mind working with the staff she was given so long as they never knew the truth about her. Akeru herself was a supernatural critter. Akeru Kitsune is a shape shifter she takes on the form of a fox, she uses a very special charm to hid her ears and tail from her human coworkers.

"So, what we hunting tonight my little fox" a male voice purred drawing her attention causing her to look up from her hands.

"You know if you keep calling me that your going to have to explain to the rest of the department why you call me that." She growled looking up at a man with short fiery red hair and deep emerald eyes sitting in a chair in front of her desk with a mischievous smile on his face.

"Robin, stop tormenting her. So what are we hunting?" a second male voice asked from the corner of the office. Turning in her chair, Akeru saw a second man with equally short raven hair and light blue eyes leaning against the wall. Making a gesture she motioned for him to take a seat in the second chair next to man named Robin.

"Robin, Ari how are you both this evening. I'm fine can't complain been busy, oh yeah and my two best detective were too busy with naked cuddle time to answer my phone calls when I called them last night to get help on a case." She growled the anger clear in her voice as she looked at each of them in turn.

"I'm sorry Keru we just been so over worked lately and have not had really anytime together." Ari apologized as he produced a white lily out of thin air and smiled as he handed it to her.

"You know, I'm still trying to figure out how you two work, I thought vampires and the Sidhe didn't like each other because vampires think the Sidhe are a sweet treat to eat." Keru said with a sigh as she took the lily from Ari, who just shrugged as he put his arm around Robin. "As for what we are hunting tonight, I have what looks like another demon running loose." She started.

"Oh man, that's like the tenth one this mouth." Robin groaned as he snatched the file out of her hand.

"Yes, thank you for that update Robin. I wasn't aware of how many we have tracked down, but since we have yet to find the one responsible for unleashing them, we are just going to have to deal with the underlings." Keru growled sarcastically as she snatched the file back.

"Who or what ever it is has to have a lot of power, the demon they are summoning are not your everyday run of the mill type. These are powerful and very much in control of themselves." Ari said picking up a picture that had fallen out of the file. In the picture there was what remained of a woman's body her head and flesh had been removed from her body with surgical precision, all her internal organs were either missing or half eaten. This woman had been made to suffer before she died. What made this case their problem was due to the fact that CSI had determined that she was skinned right there. This body was not a dump job no human could have caused this without getting caught in the act.

"That's why the three of us are going to handle this case, I know you think I'm soft but I am not risking any human life." Keru said.

"Hey we know your story. It's alright if we judged you I would have just killed you five years ago when this department was founded." Ari said with a shrug. The three of them prepared everything they needed and headed for the crime scene hoping to catch the demons sent. Once the three of them were loaded the black SUV that served as their squad car they rolled out to the scene.

Thirty minutes later.

"Whoa, overkill much. I've never seen a demon do this much damage to get a meal. This has to be some kind of message. Right?" Robin asked turning a sickly shade of green as the smell of blood and gore hit his nose upon they arrival on the scene.

"For once Robin you know exactly what your talking about. Are we even sure we are looking for a demon after a meal or just mindless bloodlust?" Keru question as she squatted down next to the body. "hey Ari come here for a moment I think there is something wrong with my nose." She said waving him over.

"What's up why do you need my nose?" Ari started before the scent of blood hit his nose. "I think I know why you needed me. That's not human blood that's demonic blood. This is a demon." He said looking at Keru reflected the same shocked look.

"Can you tell what kind of demon she was?" Robin asked looking over Ari's shoulder. "I think I'm going to be sick, I'm going over not here." He gagged before moving away from the body.

"That requires me to taste it, and just because I am what I am doesn't mean I'm going to put a single drop of that in my mouth, I have know idea where she has been." Ari said with a look.

"Ari I don't think he meant for you to taste it there is another way for us to find out what kind she was." Keru said as she took out a black cloth and dipped it in the blood. Instantly the part of the cloth that was dipped in the blood turned blue.

"Fuck, she was nobility, we were getting involved like it or not. So much for the possibility of get the humans to do it." Ari said running his nails through his hair. Very rarely did the nobility of the demonic realm stray into the mortal realm but when they do it always spelled trouble for everyone.

"Um guys, where is her head we need to find out who she was so we know just how fucked we are." Robin said as he nervously twirled a strand of hair around his finger.

"Can I trust you two to keep your hands off each other while I'm gone?" Keru asked as she headed back to car, before waiting for a reply.

"It's a good thing she is what she is maybe, that fox nose of hers can follow the scent back to where she was or maybe we can get whatever killed her back to the family, you know before they come tearing through the mortal realm." Ari said as the two of them worked on getting all the humans away. As a red fox the size of a medium size dog starts sniffing around what was left of the body, before tearing off down the alley.

Ari watched Keru turn down the street, and his mind couldn't but think back to how he and Robin met the young fox.
