For this story, Tom and Minerva are the same age.
Why?

Minerva scowled Tom Riddle. "I'll never do anything you say," she vowed.
Tom's normal arrogance was missing. "Minerva-"
"Leave me alone," she interrupted. With her head held up high, she left him on the Quidditch Pitch, all the while something churning in her stomach as a cloud of despair seemed to befall her.
Something didn't feel right.

Minerva tried to ignore Tom, but he seemed to always be there. Watching her. Studying her. Scrutinizing her. It was as if he was waiting for something to happen. She had no idea what of course, and she definitely wished he'd fill her in.
At the library, Minerva watched a few girls crowd around his table, clamoring for his attention and help.
Something squeezed her heart at the idea of him being interested in any of those girls, but while he smiled politely at them, he never engaged in any conversation with them, and he certainly never led them on.
And if Minerva even smiled at another boy, Tom would glare as he approached the pair of them, prompting the other boy to fearfully run away.
Minerva was not amused, and she had enough of the silent death threats and all of the secret looks between professors and other students.
She wanted answers, and she'd get to the bottom of it.
And for that reason, she researched. She might not have been a Ravenclaw, but she was still smart.
She looked back through the records kept in the library, and there were a lot of pictures of her and Tom. And in one particular picture, celebrating the Slytherin Quidditch Cup win, Tom held the trophy, his team surrounding him. Minerva wore a proud smile on her face. She didn't remember the picture and before she could wonder why she was in the picture to begin with, Picture Minerva leaned over and kissed the corner of Tom's lips.
'We dated. And I don't remember.' "Why don't I remember?" she whispered harshly.
With more questions than answers, Minerva put the book away and exited the library.
She couldn't confront Tom yet, not until she had more information. So she went back to the Gryffindor tower and spent the rest of the day there, even skipping dinner, too afraid of what she'd say to Tom if she saw him. She went to bed early, her mind running through possible scenarios.

She woke up that morning with a bright grin on her face. She got ready for the day and went to the Great Hall for breakfast.
She saw Tom at the Slytherin table and without thinking about it, she went towards him and bent down, pressing a light kiss to his cheek.
The light chatter in the Great Hall disappeared as they all watched the Slytherin table with interest.
Tom stiffened. "Minnie?"
Minerva blinked and tilted her head. "What's wrong? You're acting like I've never kissed you before."
Tom stood up and took her hand. "Do you remember anything from the last two months?"
Minerva thought really hard, and although she had some vague memories, all of her memories surrounding Tom were fuzzy at best. "No, not really."
Tom squeezed her hand to the point of pain. When she cringed, he relaxed his grip. "You didn't remember our relationship. In your mind, we were acquaintances who bickered, like when we first met, but we had never kissed from your perspective. We never started dating."
"How?" she whimpered.
"Ovlivation, but we don't know who did it, and it was too dangerous to remove the block from your memories. If we did, we ran the risk of permanently damaging your mind. The only hope was for your memories to be triggered naturally."
She wrapped her arms around his torso, resting her head on his chest, ignoring the fact that most of the school was witnessing this. "Why would someone take away my memories?"
Tom held her close. "I don't know, but we will find out. That's a promise, and I never break my promises."
