DTMG Fic FeBROary Day 9, Someone finding out about Billy
Jessica's Suspicions (?)
It had been over a year since Billy died, his death had been hard on the Wright family but Spencer was the worst affected. Spencer couldn't sleep, wouldn't eat, and didn't go to school for a while. But then he just… changed? Sure, it wasn't over night or anything, but in about a week her brother was almost back to his old self. And that's what Jessica couldn't understand; what happened?
Over the months, she watched him closely. He wasn't acting normal; using way more special effects than he used to and talking to thin air. Even their parents had noticed. What was going through her brother's mind? Jessica suspected it was some kind of mental illness, maybe hallucinations? Or some kind of coping mechanism? Whatever it was, she never felt like she could ask Spencer about it.
Until, finally, she saw something that made her confront him.
"Billy! Put me down!" He sounded annoyed, but Jessica saw his smile as she looked into his room, seeing him floating.
That was it. Someone needed to talk to him about this. And so, "Spencer!" Her brother dropped to the floor with a thud. She sighed, tension building, "Why do you keep doing this?" He looked confused, as if he didn't know what she was talking about. "You keep talking to Billy." She put his name in air quotes.
Spencer stuttered, obviously struggling for an answer, "I… It's… It's – uh – a script for a movie…?"
Billy seemed cautious, he and Spencer had a feeling they knew where this was going, however they didn't fully prepare for just how it would happen.
She snapped.
"HE'S DEAD, SPENCER! NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT, WHY DO YOU ACT LIKE HE'S STILL HERE!?"
Spencer's eyes widened, he looked over to Billy; he looked like he'd been shot, tears began to fall down his cheeks as he relived his death.
Spencer cautiously stepped over to him, carefully putting his arms around the ghost who clung to the boy. "It's okay, you're here." He spoke softly, trying his best to bring him out of the flashback.
Jessica's frustration only grew, "There's nothing there! What's wrong with… you…" Her brother glared at her, there was no way to describe the mix of anger and sadness in his eyes.
Though his teeth, a harsh whisper, "He never left." was all he said. A moment of silence as what he just said began to sink in.
Then, Billy spoke, "Tell her…"
"Are you sure…?" When the ghost confirmed with a nod, Spencer went over to his desk, found a wrist band. "Here, put this on." He handed it to Jessica, she was about to speak but the boy's expression made her think better of it. As she put it on a figure began to fade into her vision, and she realised everything that had happened over the past year. Then fear set it. This was a ghost. Billy died. She was about to scream but Spencer quickly told her not to be scared.
"Billy won't hurt you, you should know that." The anger was beginning to fade. Spencer explained how Billy helped with his movies, played video games with him, was just your regular teenager (all be it a ghost). He didn't mention how hard things could be for Billy, that was something for Billy to talk about when and if he wanted, however Jessica probably got some idea of his mental state from the past few minutes.
Things were going to be different. It was going to take a while to get used to, for everyone involved. Jessica wondered if people would treat her like Spencer… She hoped not. Her views on how she treated her brother in the past changed, she felt guilty; not only did she hurt Spencer but Billy as well. Hopefully within the next few weeks things would begin to feel normal again.
