Okay wow, that took me literally 5evr to update, I know, but for the record, its your reviews that brought me back to writing this again! I hope you enjoy it, and I'm loving writing Minnie's point of view of Iron Man 3. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own the MCU, I don't make any money off of this, I am just having fun and loving to write.
When Minnie woke up it was to several missed calls and texts. Sitting up she looked at the phone and frowned as she clicked on one, after reading it she swore, getting out of bed and quickly undressing from her clothes from the previous night and then changing into a different outfit quickly. She ran to the bathroom, washed her face, and brushed her teeth as she tried to get through to Tony's phone. "God damnit Stark!" she swore as she wiped her mouth off and quickly pulled her hair into a ponytail. Walking out of the bathroom she realized the guest house was quiet. She slipped on a pair of shoes and walked to the window, all of the cars were still there, but there wasn't even anyone outside.
Minnie walked to the main house, going in through the kitchen door and looked around before she heard noise coming from the living room. In there she found her parents, Bruce and Reagan watching TV, eyes glued to the screen as the reporter said "Once again Official comment from Tony Stark…" Watching she felt her jaw twitch as Tony spoke to the cameras, he spoke with a quivering voice, talking about revenge and then listing his home address-
"Oh Tony…" Minnie sighed as she ran her hand over her face. Bruce looked over at her, reaching over the back of the couch to take her free hand and give it a reassuring squeeze. Minnie smiled weakly, appreciating the gesture before she shook her head. "I have to get over there," she told her family as her phone rang. "I- I'll keep you guys updated, but I have to go."
Minnie opened the door to the rental car, tossed her purse onto the passenger's seat and was just getting in when her dad came out of the house. Walking over to the car door he looked serious, serious enough that Minnie actually stopped to wait for him. "I don't know what kind of trouble your boss is going to get you into," he said, Minnie opening her mouth to defend Tony, but he held a hand up. "I'm not saying don't go, it's your job, but I think you should take this." he said, handing her the small lock box he'd been carrying in his left hand. "Sonny left it here, in case of an emergency." he explained and she looked at it before looking back at Nate.
"Thanks Dad," she said softly, wrapping her arms around her dad, pulling back a moment later when her phone rang. "Oh- I have to go." she said as she got into the car, answering the phone as she pulled on her seat-belt. "Pepper, I'm on my way there now." she said as she turned on the car and started to drive to the mansion.
When she got to the PCH Minnie swore softly under her breath, turning and pulling up to the house was a pain in the ass, there were so many reporters and news vans there. Slowly inching forward as different media representatives got out of the way Minnie finally got to the gate and pressed her thumb against the fingerprint scanner, watching as the gate opened a reporter knocked on the window and looking over she noticed Christine Everhart. Minnie sighed before rolling her window down halfway, looking at the reporter who seemed to so often be involved with Tony and what was going on in his life.
"Anything to say?" she asked and Minnie gave her a small shake of the head.
"Not right now Christine." she replied gently. "I'll- I'll come out with an official statement soon." she added as she gate opened completely and she was able to drive through onto the driveway. She watched as the gate closed and none of the reporters tried to make it through, they all knew she'd call the police for tresspassers on private property lord knew she'd had to do it before, and she parked her car before walking into the house.
"Minnie," Pepper stood up from the couch. "I don't know what to do here, I- should I plan on leaving? That's all that I keep coming back to. I mean what do we do?"
"The way I see it," Minnie said slowly as she looked up at the other woman. "It just depends on what you think is going to happen. Do you think that the Mandarin will actually come here?"
Pepper seemed to contemplate that for a minute before looking towards the basement stairs. "I'm going to go pack." she said decidedly. "Can you call the jet?"
"Of course." Minnie nodded. "And if you need to stay somewhere until the jet is ready or anything, my family's ranch is just up the road. No one would really think to look for Tony Stark on a horse ranch." she pointed out making Pepper nod thoughtfully.
"Okay, thank you," she said, seeming a bit distracted before she started to head up the stairs, going to go pack bags for both her and Tony.
Minnie called the jet before going to the stairs and walking down, letting herself into Tony's workshop he held up a hand from where he was standing in the middle of a holographic recreation of something. Upon closer look she realized it was the explosion site at the Chinese Theater. "Tony I-"
"Shh!" he sushed her, making her blink slowly. Tony had never really sushed her, not like that, not this urgently before, so taking a step closer she kept her mouth shut as she looked at what he was looking at. She watched as he stood on a cabinet, looking down at the scene as it turned into a map of the united states. Looking at her phone she read a quick text from a person asking for a statement and then a text from Rhodey asking if she had spoken to Tony yet. She was quiet while he worked, watching him as he went through some older explosions with remarkably high heat signatures before landing on one in Rose Hill, Tennessee.
"It predates any known Mandarin Attacks," Jarvis was saying, as Minnie stepped over to where Tony stood, looking at it with a frown.
"I know his face," she said softly. "I feel like I remember hearing about that."
"Really?" Tony asked and she nodded. "You sent me to that tech conference in Nashville to see if there was anything interesting, remember?" she asked. "It was considered a suicide bomb, it caused a big fuss with the conservatives until they found out an American was behind it. Then is was a big fuss over how the VA didn't take care of their soldiers and provide proper mental health outreach." she explained. "Remember?"
"Huh." Tony said softly. "You ever been to Tennessee Jarvis?"
"Creating a flight plan as we speak." the AI replied making Minnie look up at Tony.
"I just called the jet," she told him. "They can take us to Tennessee."
"Us?" he asked looking at her.
"I mean, unless you want me to call it in to SHIELD I assume you need backup."
Tony looked thoughtful for a moment, like he was considering it before he shook his head. "This is going to be dangerous Minnie. I'd rather you stayed here with Pepper. Keep an eye on your kid."
"Pepper's the one who told me to call the pilot." Minnie told him before the doorbell rang. They both looked at each other before he looked to the side, Jarvis pulling up a picture of the front gate where a car sat with a woman inside.
"Are we still at ding-dong?" he looked back at Minnie. "We're supposed to be at total security lock-down, come on, I threatened a terrorist." he looked back at the screen. "Who is that?"
"I would have us on total lock-down if you'd let me know you were going to threaten a terrorist," she mumbled. "I just woke up to this."
"And there's only so much I can do Sir when you give the world's press your home address." Jarvis added as Minnie looked down at her phone and started to type again.
"Minnie, can you?"
"I'm sure it's just a reporter- a ballsy one at that-" she said as she pulled up the picture on her phone and looked at it. "Jarvis, run facial recognition. I don't recognize her."
"Her name is Dr. Maya Hansen." Jarvis said after a moment as Tony got off of the cabinet and then looked back at the screen.
"Maya Hansen?" he asked making Minnie sigh and look back at him.
"Let me guess, an old friend?" she asked and he shrugged. "Great, just what we need right now. Speaking of which, we do still need to talk about Dara Klien."
"I know, I know." Tony waved a hand. "I told you, after the holidays."
"Yeah, if you're still alive." Minnie said as she gate to open and moved to the stairs.
"I heard that."
"I wish you would hear that!" Minnie said as she looked at Tony.
"Concerned? You don't think I can take him?"
"I don't think you should have offered to on live TV!" Minnie replied as he started to get into his new suit.
"You know you're lucky you're my assistant now, if I had hired you a few years earlier you would have met a lot more Maya Hansen types!"
When she got upstairs Maya was standing at the glass door, knocking on it and looking expectant as Minnie walked to the door and opened it. "Dr. Hansen," she said making the woman on the other side of the door frown slightly.
"That's close enough." Tony's voice rang out from behind Minnie turn to look at him in the suit holding a hand out. "You're not the Mandarin," Tony's face plate opened up revealing his face as he looked at the woman. "Are you. Are you?"
"You don't remember." she chuckled almost bitterly as she looked away from Tony to Minnie who shrugged. If he wanted to pretend not to remember she wouldn't out him. "Even she knows who I am, and you don't; Why am I not surprised?"
"Don't take it personally, I don't remember what I had for breakfast." Tony said simply before Jarvis chimed in with a quick:
"Gluten-free waffles, Sir."
"That's right." Tony muttered to himself.
"Okay look, I need to be alone with you someplace that's not…" she looked at Minnie before looking back to Tony. "Here." Minnie frowned as she watched the woman, there was something, she couldn't really put her finger on it, but something almost frantic about her, almost like she wasn't saying everything with Minnie in the room.
"Tony, the jet," Minnie looked at him and he looked at her with a frown.
"You keep saying that, but I didn't tell you to call the jet."
"Pepper told me to call the jet." As if on cue two bags came falling from the top floor and landed next to Tony on the floor to the living room.
"Tony!" Pepper called from upstairs. "Is somebody there?"
"Yeah, it's Maya Hansen," Tony replied before looking at Maya with a small nod as Minnie stepped forward and Tony stepped out of the suit. "Old botanist pal." he continued as he walked up to Maya and spoke lowly to her. "Please don't tell me there's a twelve year old kid waiting in the car that I've never met," he spoke lowly to her making Minnie look up from where she was picking up Pepper's bags.
"Oh, Minnie, thanks, can you throw those into the car?" Pepper asked and Minnie nodded.
"He's thirteen." Maya replied making Tony cringe. "No, I need your help." Minnie couldn't help but sigh at that, she was having a hard enough time getting Tony to deal with one secret illegitimate child, let alone two.
"Minnie? The bags?"
"Right," Minnie nodded quickly. "Sorry, yeah, I'll do that now." she promised as she picked up the bags. "I'll just throw them into my car, okay? I'll take you guys to the airport?"
"Stop saying that, no one is going to the airport." Tony looked at Minnie, making Maya look exasperated at the other woman.
"Tony, you're going if Pepper says you are."
"Well she doesn't!"
"Yes I do!"
"Uh, no no no, we can't just tuck tail and run?!"
"Tony, you threatened a terrorist!" Pepper shouted making Minnie nod as she picked the bags up again.
"I'm going to just deal with this really quick." Minnie said as she walked to the front door, an argument breaking out about the travel plans, and somehow the big bunny that Tony had custom made for Pepper despite Minnie begging him to just get her a new car or an electric mixer for the kitchen. The pretty turquoise one that Pepper had been talking about almost nonstop. Minnie had bought the mixer too, just to be safe and it was sitting under the Christmas tree, wrapped all pretty with a big red bow on it.
She had just reached the front door and had opened it when she heard Maya say "Do we need to worry about that?" Looking behind her she was just in time to see a missile. An honest to goodness missile fly into the glass wall, land in the middle of the living room and explode, the force of the explosion sending her out of the open front door and onto the driveway, Pepper's bags landing just inside the house.
Jumping up Minnie heard a ringing in her ears, but she scrambled to her feet, her vision a little shakey as she stumbled, grabbing onto Maya's car and holding onto it for support. Bringing a hand to the back of her head she felt wetness and then looking at her hand she saw blood on her fingers. She stared at it for a second before looking up, realizing Tony was still in the house, Tony, Pepper and Maya Hansen, and with that realization she stepped back into the house, running as best she could from the front door to the living room.
"Minnie, get out!" Tony shouted harsly, she knew he was just concerned, and a moment later another missile came shattering through a wall making Pepper let out a scream as a hole in the living room floor formed. "Get her and get out, I'll find a way around!" Tony yelled to Pepper as Minnie felt the ground beneath them shaking slightly.
"Pepper, come on!" Minnie said as she moved over to the suit clad Pepper. She'd ask Tony about that later, first she had to make sure that Pepper was okay.
"Listen to Minnie- Go!" he shouted making Pepper nod and the two women ran over to Maya Hansen, helping her up and getting her out of the crumbling house. Minnie watched as Pepper lifted her hand, trying to activate the repulsors before she ran forward, to open the door that had been knocked closed.
"It's a button you press with your fingertip," she told Pepper as she opened the door. Pepper let her hand fall, but it seemed like she'd heard what Minnie said because the next second she heard the sound of the repulsor going off and then felt the force of both Maya and the suit come crashing into her, sending all three of the women flying out of the house, and back onto the driveway.
Looking up with a groan Minnie was able to see the suit starting to fly off of Pepper in pieces, going back into the house and she groaned as she sat up slowly, her head spinning. The house made a horrible sound, the sound of steel bending and breaking, cement crunching like chips and the sound of repulsors going off. Staggering back to her feet she watched one helicopter fall from the sky, closely followed by another, the second of which came crashing directly into the house.
She grabbed Pepper, pulling her away from the house as the last helicopter fired more missiles at the house and then to her horror the house began to break off from the cliff and crash into the sea.
"No-" Pepper pulled away from Minnie, running into the entryway, looking down through the gaping hole left by the missiles and stared into the ocean that her house had just fallen into. "Tony!" she screamed, horror struck as she looked down.
Minnie followed the light the paramedic was shining into her eyes, her pupils were responsive, she knew that much, but the paramedic didn't look happy. "I want you to go to the hospital." he told her making her shake her head.
"I can't, I need to start getting people here, to clean up the mess and I need to get Pepper out of here."
"I'm sure Ms. Potts can handle herself." the paramedic said. "You on the other hand, probably have a concussion."
Minnie groaned as she blinked a few times, nodding at the diagnosis. She'd had a few concussions in her life, mostly from the rodeo, and this was no different, her feeling of fogginess she had gotten a few times on the road after falling off her horse, she probably did have a concussion. "Pepper," she called and Pepper walked over to where she was being checked out. "They think I have a concussion, I need to go to the hospital." Minnie told her. "Do you want to come with me?"
"No," Pepper replied. "No, I'm going with Maya Hansen, I need to see what she came to Tony to talk about."
"Okay." Minnie said with a nod. "I wish you would come with me, I-" Minnie looked over at Maya who was talking on the phone to someone far out of reach from everyone else. "I don't know if you should trust her."
"Tony trusted her." Pepper pointed out making Minnie's face screw up.
"Pep, I don't think Tony truly trusted-"
"I'll be okay Minnie," Pepper insisted. "I don't need you to take care of me. I'm not Tony. If it makes you feel better I'll try and convince her the best place to go is your parents ranch."
Minnie was about to point out that she didn't just take care of everything Tony wanted, but found herself relaxing slightly at the mention of the ranch. If Pepper went to the ranch she would be safe and protected by people she trusted. Nodding she waved as she was being loaded into the ambulance as Pepper watched, then handed her purse to a paramedic.
"Don't worry!" Pepper called. "I already called your family and let them know you were alive!" she waved and as the driver closed the doors Minnie was able to see Pepper approach Maya Hansen.
When they got to the hospital, Providence St. John's in Santa Monica she was brought in not through the regular emergency room entrance, but a different entrance, the kind of entrance they would take someone like a dignitary or a rock star through. Shutting her eyes for a moment Minnie opened then when she felt the phone on her stomach vibrate. Opening it she had to focus for a minute before she was able to read the text from Bruce. He was there- oh god, he was there. She looked at the paramedic who was stopping next to a nurse's desk and gently tapped his hand. "Where are we?" she asked.
"We're at the hospital." he told her, looking concerned and making her chuckle lightly.
"Yes, I know that." she told him. "My.. Friend. He wants to know where to meet me." she explained and a look of realization crossed his face as he nodded and then told her where they were.
It took a few hours before they confirmed yes, she had a concussion and basically she needed to take it easy to recover. After coming out of the room with the doctor Minnie decided to walk down the hall, going to see Happy before she'd go find Bruce and Reagan, because no matter how much she insisted they go home, they insisted on waiting for her. She looked at the two Stark Industries employees and nodded to them as she approached, one of them smiling gently when he saw her.
"Ms. Strong," he said gently. "I heard you were injured. Are you okay?"
"I'll be okay Marcus," she nodded. "A couple of stitches, and a prescription for a little rest." she shrugged.
"You're here to pick them up?" he asked and she tilted her head slightly.
"I'm sorry?"
"Dr. Banner and your daughter?" he asked, as if she should have known what he was talking about, which maybe he should have, but she let him open the door and walked into the room where Happy lay on the bed, still out, but with Reagan watching the TV and Bruce staring at the prone man, though she could tell he wasn't really seeing him.
"Hey," she said softly making them both look over at her. Bruce, bless him, stood back and let Reagan jump up, wrapping her arms around Minnie tightly and burying her face in her neck. Minnie wrapped her arms around her daughter, smiling softly at the knowledge that her too cool for mom's love teenager had been worried about her. Stroking Reagan's hair gently Minnie let Reagan hug her for as long as she needed before she cupped Reagan's face and looked at her. "I'm okay Sweetheart," she assured Reagan, wiping the tears from under Reagan's eyes away. "It's just a little concussion."
Bruce stepped up to her, gently touching Minnie's shoulder making her nod as she looked at him. "Just a concussion?" he asked.
"Yeah. I'll be fine."
"You don't have to stay in the hospital?" Reagan asked and Minnie shook her head.
"No baby, I can go home." she smiled at Reagan. "How did you guys get here? Did you manage to get the rental from the mansion?"
"No, your dad lent me his truck." Bruce told her making her raise her eyebrows.
"Well, he must like you."
"That's what grandma said." Reagan pointed out as she stepped over to Minnie, wrapping her arm around Minnie's waist as they walked. Minnie smiled, wrapping her arm about Reagan's shoulders and leaning her cheek against her daughter's head. "Did you hear from Aunt Tabby today?" Reagan added as they walked to the car.
"Aunt Tabby? No, why?"
"She called Grandma before she knew you were at Uncle Tony's and told her that she and uncle Paul are getting a divorce."
"Ah," Minnie sighed as she thought about that little bit of family gossip. "Well I hope she was shocked when she found out that I had been in an explosion."
"Oh yeah, she totally freaked out. I think she's going to come out here."
"Oh no." Minnie sighed. "That's the last thing we need, where are we going to put here, I mean the guest house is full what with us and Pepper-"
"Pepper?" Bruce asked making Minnie look at him.
"Yes, Pepper." Minnie nodded and he shook his head.
"Pepper isn't at the ranch." he said slowly, making Minnie stop walking.
"Well where the hell is she?"
Okay, I know that some people would have found a way for Minnie to get out to Tennessee with Tony, but I just didn't see that as realistic. Unfortunately with Tony being a superhero now, the people around him are getting thrown around a lot more, luckily Minnie has very good health insurance. But seriously, it always bothers me in movies when people fall and have head injuries and then get up and are fine. Like car accidents, in movies people who are in car accidents are either in a coma or just have like one little scratch and that's it. Soooo yeah, Minnie gets banged up, but I think it's realistic.
But I'm ranting, wow, okay, go of Scruffy, right? I know, I'm a mess. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I hope you continue to read and you like the inclusion of the MCU in my story line. I know there wasn't very much Bruce and Minnie, but there will be soon! In the meantime, please leave a review! The more I get, the more I'm inclined to write.
