Ch. 16
(Belladonna POV)
"Ugh I think it's time we start getting ready to go Chris." "Naw we can wait a bit longer, it's only eight." I laughed; feeling my shoulders jostle his while we sat on the couch. "Yeah and we won't get there till ten if we start now." "Fine, be the voice of reason and ruin my lazy Tuesday night." I smiled as I reached over to pinch his leg. "Will do, now come on." I stood up from the couch pulling him with me. Making my way towards my room Chris paused tugging on my hand. "Hey do you need any help getting ready?" I shook my head and smiled. "Naw, I'm not dressing to impress." "But you'll be seeing your fella." I could practically taste the disgust coming off of him. "He's not my fella. I'm goin plain Jane tonight." "Ok, well I'm gonna get cute; you never know who you'll see." "Think you'll be ready in thirty?" "If I must." "You must." I laughed, and we both separated to go to our respective rooms.
Entering my room I headed to my closet to pull a few things out. 'Simple Bell, don't go crazy.' It took me a good ten to fifteen minutes to figure out my "Plain" outfit. 'Oh yeah, I'm not trying to impress anyone.' I laid everything out on my bed and started getting ready. I put on a pair of black skinny jeans that had a few tears going down the front of them, paired with a black lacey tank top, a black blazer that had emerald green satin trim, and a pair of tall black boots. 'Comfy and cute but not over the top.' I nodded to myself before throwing my hair up into a messy bun. I grabbed some ribbon and headed over to Chris' room. "Hey are you finished getting ready?" The door immediately opened. "Just about, I'm just picking out shoes. What did you need?" "I was going to wear a ribbon in my hair." "Ha, are you four?" "No! I just thought it tie in well with my blazer." "Ah, do you want it just at the base of your bun?" I nodded yes. As soon as he found and put on his shoes he helped fix my hair. "Alright, there ya go Bells, now let's get going."
It never ceased to surprise me how busy the club was each time we came. "Ya know, you would think after a shooting a place like this would slow down a bit business wise." "Yeah but most people are dumb and chase after danger." "That's not very nice Chris. Besides, we're now included in that." "True, maybe they just appreciate the wide variety of alcohol." I laughed and just tugged him along. "Come on." "What do you mean come on? I'm the one that needs to lead the way little missy." "Well then like I said…" I tugged on him again. "Come on." "You know, you're awfully excited to see someone that previously made you cry for days." "Shut up! It's bad enough dealing with all these stupid emotions. Believe me I know I'm crazy for being here, but a part of me just says see what happens." "Yeah the part that got knocked loose in your accident." I reached back and slapped him in the chest. "Not fair!" "Come on girly let's get ya to your man." I nodded. As per usual now, Chris led us around the mass of people awaiting entrance and took us straight to the front. "Excuse me we're…" "Go right in." "No fuss?" "No sir. We all know who Ms. Night is Sir." Before Chris yanked us through the door I paused and turned back to the security guard. "What's your name?" "Excuse me Ms.?" "What's your name? You were so polite, I'd like to try and remember it." I smiled gently hoping to get an answer. "My name is Timmy Ms. Night, you two have a good time." I simply nodded in response at the tone of his voice. 'I'll take that as conversation over.'
It didn't take long for Johnny to find Chris and me at the bar. I hadn't even managed to finish my drink and find Jason. 'That was so fast it was a little disappointing.' "Good evening Bell, Chris." "Hi Johnny." We said in unison. "I take it you'll be spiriting my Bell away?" "That is what I'm here for, boss wanted to see her asap." I felt Chris pat my back. "Well it was nice knowing you Bells. I suppose I'll let you leave me to my own devices." "I suppose. Will you search for Jason and let him know we're here? Keep my big bro up to speed." "Will do Bells." The change in his voice told me defender Chris was making an appearance. "Johnny my friend, do me a favor and make sure my girl here is taken care of." I felt Johnny take a hold of my arm. "I will." "Take care Bells." "I will, have fun." "Of course."
Johnny led me up to Jokers office and gave a sharp knock before opening the door. I turned to face him a bit more. "No waiting this time?" "No, he's made it clear there's not to be any disturbances." "Uh oh, you're makin me nervous." "No need, I would however advise you to go on in." I nodded and pushed the door open more, letting myself in.
As soon as the door shut behind me I heard footsteps heading my way. "Well helloooo Bellsy." I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the smile from appearing on my face. "Hello to you too Mr. J." "Hahahaa." I could sense him right in front of me. There was a tug on my blazer when he ran his fingers down the green satin. "Haha we'll aren't you cute." He yanked me forward pressing our chests together. "Now how bout a uh proper hello?" I raised my hands finding the sides of his face before leaning in; while Mr. J's hands moved to rest on my waist and the back of my head. His fingers laced themselves into my hair, and I took the initiative closing the remaining distance between us.
When our lips touched it was like searing heat bursting throughout my body. It was messy, our lips pressing together trying to meld us into one. I soon pulled away trying to catch my breath. Joker pulled me back in and I just laughed. "Mr. J, stop." "I'm not finished with you yet." He growled yanking me closer. "Yes you are." I smirked and tugged myself away stumbling slightly. Joker grabbed my arms steadying me before reaching up and pinching my cheek. "Hahaaa tipsy off a kiss huh? Such a light weight." I just rolled my eyes. "Did you tell me to come here just to poke fun?" "No, tonight's visit is business I'm afraid." "And what business do we have?" "All sorts Bellsy, we've got pleasure to go with it too though. Don't worry gorgeous, I'm not all work." "Ha of that I'm sure." "Well since you want to move on to the main event we better get going." I furrowed my brows. "Go? Go where?" "A special place. I've got one hell of a surprise for ya Bellsy." His hand reached up and caressed my cheek as he moved past me to the door. "Hahaaa and you're gonna love it!"
Opening the door he reached back and took my hand in his. "Ya know I gotta tell ya Mr. J, you've certainly peaked my interest." "Good, now come on." He led me out of the club and to his car. "Ya know you could've just asked me to dinner." He reached over at squeezed my knee as he took off. "Maybe later gorgeous, for now we've uh got a schedule to keep." It was my turn to laugh. "Ha! You have a schedule? That even felt weird to say." "I'm a business man Bellsy and sometimes that calls for perfect timing and a bit of finesse." "Are you ever going to tell me where we're going?" "I told you, it's a special place with a surprise." "Ugh." "So impatient Bellsy." I copied him and slid my hand over to his leg and squeezed. "Now now, that's not nice." "Fair is fair Mr. J." "We're going to one of my business buildings." "Mhmm and what's inside?" "A surprise Bellsy, now shhhh. Relax gorgeous and just listen to the sounds around you." I took my hand back and placed both in my lap while I pouted.
I had no idea how much time had passed before we were coming to a stop. As Mr. J helped me out of the car my brow creased at how eerily quiet it was around us. I held his hand tightly in blind faith as he led me across the pavement. "Say Mr. J, you haven't brought me all this way just to kill me have ya?" He let out a slow haunting laugh before I felt him poke me on the nose. "Oh silly Bellsy, wherever did you get that idea?" I rolled my eyes. "Well, I mean you have brought me to what seems to be the middle of nowhere. I'm also pretty sure if I was to scream no one would hear me." Joker pulled me to an abrupt stop and pulled me against his chest. "Bellsy, Bellsy, Bellsy, when I make you scream I guarantee people will hear." I felt myself flush at his words. He just laughed again before pulling me along once more.
The loud creak of old metal told me that we were entering what I guessed was an abandoned building. 'I really probably shouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a warehouse of some sort.' The further we ventured into the building the more nervous I became. Joker hadn't said a single word since before we entered. I soon started to pick up voices that sounded far away. Within a few moments the faint sounds turned to murmurs, and then to whispers before I started to pick out the words. The distinct sound of a whimper caught my attention as another door was opened. "Well helloooo boys." "Boss!" "And how are our friends doing this evening?" "Perky as peaches boss." I could practically feel waves of excitement rolling off of Joker. He clapped his hands. "Faaantastic!" I took a couple steps backwards before hands clasped around my upper arms. "Watch out Bellsy, don't want ya taking a tumble…. Though I suppose now would be the best time all things considering." He took one hand away before pulling me behind him. "Just a bit further, can ya feel it Bellsy?" I tilted my head towards him in confusion. "Feel what?" "The adrenaline, the excitement, come on I uh know ya gotta be feelin something." "I'm more confused than anything else, a bit worried too if I'm being completely honest." "Hahahahaa honesty is the best policy, no on likes a uh a liar after all." "Well if that's the case I should be correct in assuming you'll be telling me what's going on?" He reached back to press a finger over my lips. "Shhhhh, you'll spoil the fun. Now take a seat." "What?" I suddenly found myself being gently shoved into a hard chair. I scrunched my brown in annoyance. "And with that ladies and gents the worries are back." I muttered. Someone pinched my cheek, and I could safely guess who the fingers belonged to. "What was that Bellsy?" I rolled my eyes. "Nothing." "So sassy, glad ya still have it in ya." Suddenly his breath was fanning over my face; his closeness only raising my anxiety. "Now what'd I say about liars?" I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "No one likes a liar." "Exactly." He released my cheek only to give it a condescending pat. "So, what'd ya say?" "Just that my worries are back." "No need for those Bellsy." "Well not being able to see anything doesn't help, especially since the person I'm with happens to have all the cards at this current moment."
He pulled me up off the chair before pulling me backwards. I landed on his lap with a huff as he leaned in near my ear. "Haha don't worry about a thing Bellsy you'll soon see everything I do." I turned towards him, mouth briefly brushing against his cheek. "What does that mean?" His hands moved to around my waist and gave me a squeeze, while his mouth found my neck and gave a quick nip. I could hear the smile in his voice when his next words left his lips. "Oh Johnny boy, why don't ya bring in Bellsy's present; I think she's been patient enough." "Yes sir."
I heard the sound of a door closing, and leaned back into Joker's chest. 'Might as well get comfortable.' His lips brushed across my neck, making their way up to my ear. "We-e-ell lookey here." "Don't go getting cocky on me. I'm just making myself more comfortable." "Now now, I betcha you'd like it if I got cocky." He moved his hips and I flushed feeling something start to poke me. My eyes widened and I elbowed him lightly in the chest. "This is hardly appropriate timing." "Ha-ha-ha-haaa…." I shivered slightly. "Joker." "Aww come on Bellsy, live a little." "Let me ask you something Joker, are we even alone in here?" "Nope, I uh can't say that we are." I turned to whisper in his ear, and raised my hand to run along his arm. "Well then here's my second question. Would you really want your employees seeing something they probably shouldn't?" His grip around my waist tightened once more as he practically growled in displeasure. "When you uh put it that way, I suppose you should keep your hands to yourself." I rolled my eyes. "Yes, it's me that's the problem." "Glad you agree." "Sure thing." I yelped when I felt a hard pinch above my ribs. "What the hell?!" "Tsk tsk better watch it gorgeous, I might just return your surprise."
As soon as the words left his mouth I heard the squeak of a door being opened followed by several thumps and muffled yells. "What's going on?" "Speaking of surprise, looks like yours just arrived." He gently lifted me off his lap before placing me back on the chair. He bent over and poked me in the nose once more. "Now you missy just stay right here while I get your present set up." "But…" His finger pressed against my lips again. "No, no, no, no, trust me gorgeous." I did what I was told and sat there fiddling with my fingers and clenching my teeth, just waiting.
"Gentlemen and ladies, well lady, let's get into some introductions." There was a bit of rustling before whomever was brought in started begging. "Please let us go." "He's not going to just let us go you fool. We're at the mercy of a loon. We'll be lucky to even make it out of this disaster alive, even if we follow all his rules." I jumped when a shot was fired. "Haha…fellas, fellas, ya know, it's uh not polite to talk about someone behind their backs." "What… what do you want from us?" "We've been over this before boys! You're here to help a friend of mine." I heard a shuffle before feeling Joker's hand sliding across my shoulders before it came to a stop on the back of my neck. "Docs, I believe you know this lovely lady here." I heard a cynical chuckle from in front of me. "Ha, you've gotta be kidding me! Aren't you the girl I had escorted out?" My brows furrowed in confusion as realization started to sink in. I turned towards Joker. "Mr. J?" "Yeah gorgeous?" "These wouldn't happen to be the doctors I told you about would they?" "You know they are." "And they're here because….?" "I told ya you would see everything." I smiled softly. "There's no way we're helping her! I told her there was nothing we can do." "Dr. Sanders correct? You're just as nice as you were the last time we spoke. I doubt I'll be the one being manhandled this time." Joker abruptly pulled away and walked towards the doctors. "Bellsy, Bellsy, Bellsy, you failed to mention that during my uh little visit." I heard a yelp of pain and flinched. 'Karma bitch.' "Now uh, that's not very nice. I distinctly remember saying we were all gonna be friends." "We'll, we'll help her." "Absolutely not! This stupid girl thinks we can be bullied into doing something for free? Bruce Wayne tried and failed, you will too." "Sanders you're being ridiculous! You're playing with our lives!"
My brows furrowed in anger at the accusation. "Too bad we need both doctors." I scoffed without realizing I had been heard. "Oh hohoo now uh, there's a thought." Joker's hand gripped my chin and turned it upwards. "Oh Bellsy, I just love the way you think!" He gave me a quick peck on the cheek before pulling away. "Misterrr Powell, think you could handle this venture on your own?" "It would take both of us, we're the only ones trained! This is our research!" I jumped slightly hearing a growl rip from Joker's chest right before a smack sounded. 'Uh oh. I don't think this is gonna end well.' "I uh wasn't asking you Colonel Sanders. I suggest you shut your fuckin pie hole before my pistol shuts it for you. As I was saying MR. POWELL, do you think you could perform dear Bellsy's procedure without your uh opinionated partner over there?" My eyes widened at the clicking of what I hoped wasn't a gun. "And be honest Mr. Powell I'll know if you're lying." "Y-yes! It would only be one of us actually performing the surgery normally while the other would either be assisting or working with another patient. There would have to be another nurse or surgeon there to help however, there'd be too many chances taken if it was just myself or Dr. Sanders." "Haha so uh what you're saying is, if I get you another assistant you can fix my girls' eyes up? Did I hear that correctly?" "Y-yes sir." "Frost! Ya heard the man, he needs an assistant." "On it boss."
"Well, well, well it seems like we won't be needing your services after all colonel." "It'll fail, it wasn't just about the money, there's no way her sight will come back." "Hmm I think you're just trying to talk the talk now buddy. Am I uh startin to make ya a little nervous?" Silence was once again the answer. By now the once proud doctor could practically be heard shaking in his shoes. "Ha…ha…haaa come on, you've been quite boisterous up until now. Tell us what's goin on in that lil pea brain of yours, no sense in taking secrets to the grave." "I think I'll take my thoughts with me, back home if you don't mind." "Ya know for a doc you're pretty stupid if ya think we're gonna let you leave here alive. In fact we'll pull the plug now." "Just wait a minute!" I finally spoke up hearing the fear in his voice. 'Even if he was a giant dick that doesn't mean he should die for it.' I could hardly imagine the faces of the people around me, the tension had certainly been mounting. "Mr. J?" "What's up gorgeous? Got a request?" "You're not really gonna kill him right?" "Course I am Bellsy! He's no use to us if he's not going to be helpful, and we can't have him running off to the cops now can we?" "Can't you just lock him up or something? I mean what if something happens before the procedure? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a backup."
Fingers threaded through my hair before pulling my head back so my face was turned upward. "Such a softy. After what that man did, said to you, you'd show him mercy?" "I just don't think he should die." "Alrighty gorgeous he won't die, but he might wish he had." "Just please don't kill him, that's all I ask." "You're gonna owe me for this missy." I nodded. "Okay Mr. J." He leaned down, his breath fanning across my face and down my neck. "There's my girl, you're soo good!" His fingernails scraped across my scalp as he released me from his hold. "Alright boys, escort Colonel Sanders to his old room and make sure he's comfortable." Footsteps marched across the floor and soon Sanders could be heard kicking and screaming as he was dragged from the room.
A loud clap turned my attention in Joker's direction. "Back to the matter at hand, Mr. Powell. Now I told my fellas to get everything you need do you have it?" Hearing silence as an answer I assumed he must have given a positive answer. "When can ya get started?" "A-as soon as the assistant is here."
I sat there in shock, so much had happened in the past forty-eight hours. "Ya hear that Bellsy? It's all up to you sweet cheeks. When ya wanna get those peepers back?" "I uh, Dr. how long will the downtime be?" "Um, really twenty-four hours would be okay before you head back to work, or uh whatever it is you do." "I'm assuming the recovery time for when I can expect to see would be undetermined?" "Yes, as we said during the meeting you were a part of, results will vary from each patient. I can't give any sort of guarantee on what the result will be either… is that something you are okay with?" I nodded. "Haha, not like she can get any worse right?" I turned towards Joker and smiled slightly. "True, what's the worst that could happen I never see again?" "Well, could we do Monday Mr. J?" "Whatever you want gorgeous." I nodded again. "Okay let's do this." Joker's laughter rang through the room again, only this time I couldn't hear the malice hidden inside. "Alright Doc one of my boys here will take ya back to a room. If there's anything ya need just let em know, they shouldn't give you any trouble." "Yes sir Mr. Joker." "And as for you Bellsy dear." He pulled me up from the chair so I could stand. "You're coming with me. I think we deserve a bit of private time. What do ya think?" "Sounds good to me." "Let's go then." Without another word he started pulling me away.
We walked in silence as we made our way back through the warehouse and to his car. "What's next Mr. J?" "Feel like going somewhere new?" "New as in new business or?" "New to you." I shrugged my shoulders. "Sure why not? Your last surprise went pretty well for me haha." We made it back to the car and started our journey to our next destination. I couldn't bring myself to start up a conversation on our way, too much floating around in my head. After a while I felt a hand make its way across my jean clad leg to rest on my upper thigh. "Ya look like you're pretty deep in thought over there toots." I smirked over in his direction. "That Mr. J would be because I am, a lot has happened in the last couple days." "Anything I can uh help ya with?" "Maybe, but not here." "Ohhh thinking something naughty are we?" "Absolutely not." I smiled. He just let out another one of his slow laughs.
We'd been driving for a while, back into the city and out. The further and further we drove the quieter it became until I couldn't hear a single sound coming from the city. "Another abandoned warehouse?" "Haha not quite." "Where are we this time?" He didn't bother answering me as he took a few more turns before hitting a dirt road. The sound of gravel hitting the bottom and sides of the car kept me distracted enough to not keep asking questions. I had gotten so lost in my mind that it didn't even register when we came to a stop until my door was being opened. "Come on Bellsy, let's go have a drink."
He took my hand pulling me out of the car. "So?" "You Bellsy are a special guest at Casa de Joker." My eyes widened as I took in what his words meant and I turned towards him. "Your house?" "The one and only." "And here I thought you lived in the club." "She's got jokes! Now I may have some necessities there but I quite like sleeping in a real bed now and then." Joker led me up a set of steps before I heard him unlocking a door. "So secure." He tugged me inside. My heels clicked across the floor as he led me around before being taken to a seat. "Any requests?" "Surprise me." "The uh theme of the night." I soon had a drink in my hand as we being taken to another room. I heard a slight squeak of leather as Joker sat down before he pulled me to sit beside him.
"You've uh, still got that look about ya gorgeous. Tell me, what cha thinkin?" I took a few gulps of my drink, working up the courage to ask the question that had run through my mind multiple times this evening. "Why'd you do all this? I mean, I didn't expect your little visit from the other night to result in this." His hand reached over to take my drink out of my hand. After setting them down he tugged me over onto his lap. "I seem to find myself in this spot quite often." "Any complaints Bellsy?" "Not at the moment." I reached up slowly to wrap my arm around his neck. "Ya gonna answer my question Mr. J?" "To put a smile back on my flower's face." My lips spread into a full blown smile. "So you mean you did something nice for someone, with no ulterior motive?" In response his lips came down to press against mine in a slow languid kiss that pulled a moan right out of my mouth. My eyes stayed closed as he pulled away. "Ha there uh may have been a tiny bit of an ulterior motive." "As long as it doesn't backfire in my direction I'm okay with that." "Smooth sailing Bellsy." My other hand slid up his chest and into his hair pulling his lips back down to mine. "Thank you for this Mr. J, I don't know how I could thank you enough. I was beginning to lose hope." "Aw gorgeous you're gonna make me cry." I laughed when he patted my cheek. "Thank you again Mr. J. Oddly enough I think this is probably the nicest thing someone has ever done for me." "Anything for my deadly little flower." My smile widened as I pressed my forehead against his. His hand reached up and brushed across my lips and cheek. "That right there, just keep it up." I took a note from him and brought my hand around to ghost over his cheekbone and down next to his mouth. "Oh Mr. J I plan to." I smashed my lips back onto his and sighed as I felt his tongue brush over my lips. I smiled into the kiss. 'This might be a very long night.'
