Christmas Tradition

The children always knew when it was Christmas outside the Loop. Miss Alma LeFay Peregrine made it her business to know everything that went on inside the safe little world she had created for her children, but in over seventy years, she had never been able to discover which child made the forbidden trips outside to learn the date. And yet without fail, evergreen wreaths and silver bells began appearing all over the Home at exactly the right time of year. Her lecture about staying inside the protection of the Loop had become just another part of the Christmas tradition.
