Here's part 2. Not sure how many parts this will be yet and if it will go throughout the entirety of the cross-over of not...depends on if you all like it I guess. Anyway, here we go. Kara gets to have some emotions about everything all.
"There's a wave of anti-matter sweeping across this universe, destroying everything in its path."
Kara hears the words that are being said, but she doesn't need them to understand what's happened. In her mind she is still seeing what has already been done, what has already been taken from her again. But she opens and closes her hands, tries again to focus. She needs to listen, needs to know everything she can about what they are up against, because whatever it is that is happening is not something that can be stopped by will or hope alone.
"I've seen the anti-matter wave in action. It wiped all of Earth-2 right out of existence."
Oliver's voice is shaky, not with fear, but with the kind of heaviness that comes from something kept hidden, and she sees again that guilt in his eyes. But she didn't understand it before, thought maybe it was something else.
"I brought you all to Earth-38 because this is where the Monitor wants you to make your stand."
Now she realizes it's the same haunted look she sees in herself on the nights it gets too dark. But unlike her, she isn't sure he was ready to carry the burden of anyone's ghosts but his own.
"This universe is the tipping point...If we don't stop the anti-matter wave here, it will continue to the next universe, and the next, and the next. Until it has obliterated, not only every Earth, but everything across all reality."
The Harbinger's voice fades as she keeps her eyes on Oliver. She thinks over and over about what he just said. How he had seen this happen. How he knew what it could do, what could happen. She can feel the tears threatening in her eyes and the ire threatening in her voice as both anger and grief war for a place in her heart, but she can't let go of either now, not like this.
Oliver shifts in his seat, clears his voice, manages to steady it better this time, but still he won't look at her.
"Right. So, we are going to need a bigger team. Where's Barry? Where are the legends?"
"I'm headed to check on them now."
Kara watches as Harbinger nods and flashes from the room, and it all starts to all feel so impossibly real then. All of them together and all of them waiting and it's only then that Oliver finally looks up and she can't take that look anymore, and she can't take not knowing anymore. She knows he can't take it anymore either that he is going to say something, but she also knows that whatever it is she's going to say in return can't happen here. So she stands first, looks at Alex in a way that says whatever happens 'please don't follow me' and then she does her best not to let her voice betray the strength she has been so desperately trying to hold onto this whole time.
"Thank you all for being here. I know we can beat this together."
And Alex nods at her and takes her hand briefly to let her know she understands even if she doesn't want to, even if she is still worried.
Brainy nods too, looks between her and Kal and Lois. Tries to replace some of the pain in Kara's heart with hope.
"I'm tracking the trajectory of Johnathan's pod. We should know soon where he landed."
Kara smiles at Brainy and places a hand on Kal's shoulder with as much comfort as she can offer and as much hope of her own as she dares.
"We'll find him."
Kal covers her hand and she holds on just a second longer before finally turning toward where Oliver stands. Her name quieter and gentler than she's ever heard him say it when he tries to stop her.
"Kara..."
But she looks at his daughter next to him and steps past him and out the door hoping he understands the same as her that there are things going to be said that neither of them want heard.
"Kara, wait!"
And this time there's more desperation in the way he says her name as he follows after her but still she keeps walking, lets him follow her until they get to another room and then she turns and takes his arm and pushes him through the door so that he stumbles slightly. She shuts the door behind them and lets her head rest against the metal for a second trying to calm herself as her shoulders finally give into the weight of everything that's happened.
"Kara."
She turns hands raised as they stand a couple of feet apart. She just needs him to listen. Needs to know if she's wrong.
"Just stop Oliver...please, please just stop..."
Because Rao, she just wants to wrong.
"...how long?"
"How long what?"
She drops her hands, shakes her head, how could he not understand.
"You said you have seen this before."
She steps closer.
You said you saw Earth-2 destroyed."
Her voice getting louder.
"So how long has this been happening? How long have you known this was coming?"
Her hands push against his chest with every question.
"How long could I have had to save Argo? How long could I have had to save my mother? To save my nephew?"
Until finally, his back is against the wall, and her hands are wrapped in the front of his suit.
And it's in that moment Kara feels the anger behind the anger, that itself is a kind of grief.
"How much time could I have had to say goodbye?"
And it reminds her again of the pain of surviving.
And it's too much, and she is out of questions and out of reasons, and when she feels her fist collide with the wall she isn't even sure who she is angry at anymore. But as the dust settles on them both and she lets go of Oliver's jacket — as she lets her hands fall to her side and backs away, it's clear that it's pieces of her own heart lying broken on the floor between them.
Oliver is the one that steps forward this time.
"I'm sorry...I-I'm so sorry, but I had to."
And they both have tears in their eyes and she knows then that the guilt she has seen all along is not only for what he has done to her — for what he has kept from her — but for what he has already done to the people he loves and for the secrets he is still holding onto.
"What did you do?"
And you can hear the heaviness again in his voice.
"Last year, the Monitor gave me a chance to change my destiny."
He takes a deep breath.
"You, you and Barry are the best of us."
And you remember then what Kal had seen in the book.
"Oliver..."
And she says his name like a warning.
"You are the best chance are stopping the Crisis."
"Oliver, tell me you didn't."
Because how could he.
"The balance had to be maintained."
She shakes her head in disbelief.
"No"
"Kara, I did what I had to."
"No."
She hits herself in the chest, hand landing hard on the crest that she wears there.
"No! You don't get it! You think dying is a sacrifice! But I know that living is a sacrifice too!"
She steps closer to him again.
"If I had to die to save the multi-verse, if that's what Kal saw and if that's what was going to stop all of this from happening then that's what should have happened. Maybe Argo would still be here, maybe my mother would still be here, maybe all those worlds wouldn't have been lost. And even if they were, even if we still found ourselves here, at least I wouldn't have to look at your daughter and know that she won't have a father anymore because of me. And I won't need to look Felicity and know that she lost the man she loves because of me."
She puts a hand on his chest.
"I have already caused enough pain in this world, and I have already carried enough guilt, how dare you ask me you carry yours too."
She turns away from him then, she can't be here, she can't do this. She has to be able to fight this too. She has to find a way to fight this too.
"Kara..."
She looks back at him one more time, and she doesn't know what comes next for either of them now, but she does know one thing.
"We will save them all Oliver, we don't know anything other than that, I won't believe anything other than that."
Coming up...Kara has a talk with Kal and makes a deal with the Monitor.
Let me know if you think Oliver should still die in this or not.
