There never was a big moment or a a grand realization. It just happened. They never had an anniversary or a first date. It just happened.

They got close. It started with a brush of the shoulders when together. The touch of knees when seated.

You could always find them together but that was nothing new. They were best friends.

When in a group one would have their arm around the others shoulders while the other stood cross armed unwavering. It was just normal and nothing out of the ordinary. They'd hold hands occasionally and I was just something they did.

Someone from the outside would ask the inside group what was going on or say how cute they were but the inside would just tell them they weren't together and the outside would apologize.

They never did date anyone else, they just never felt the need. It was never discussed by ANYONE.

Eventually the inside saw it and realized what happened but never said anything. It just was and they never saw it.

Eventually the moved in together without a conversation or agreement. It started with a day or two a week overnight to things being left there to an unrenewed lease.

They didn't plan it, any of it but it happened.

When people assumed they were together they were never corrected. When labeled and assumptions were made they were never wrong. It just happened.

They didn't know it was going to happen. It wasn't a conscious thing it just happened.

There was no grand gesture, no official asking, no first date, no anniversary but they wouldn't have it any other way.
