Chapter 222: End of the Chaos

Canada breathed a sigh of relief as he stepped into his house. He had just dropped off the Latin Americans at the airport. The two weeks that they were staying were over. Canada was alone again, with only Kumajiro for company.

He never thought the day would come that he would be happy about it.

The sigh of relief turned into a groan. They might have tried their best, but the Latin Americans were in such a rush, that some things ended up not being cleaned up. The living room was still chock full of bedding, and it was now his job to clear everything up.

Still, the two weeks had been fun. And tiring.

Deciding that it would be best to do all the cleaning after a nice long nap, he made his way to his bedroom for the first time in days. The only one that had used this room during the last two weeks was Kumajiro, who was in fact curled up on the bed.

The bear cracked an eye open before he yawned.

"Finally," he muttered. "They're gone."

Canada nodded his head, before lying down next to Kumajiro.

"Let's not do that again anytime soon," he said, before he let out his own yawn.

Norway was in a foul mood. A very foul mood. In the end, his boss had been unsuccessful in securing a meeting with Canada, and while he could have arranged for one himself, the fact that the Latin Americans were visiting Canada made it difficult, and before that, Canada had been visiting Wales. Norway didn't want to seem as though he was harassing Canada. He preferred life, thank you very much.

According to his calculations, Canada should be free soon, unless someone else managed to make arrangements with him. Unfortunately, there wasn't much time. The next world meeting was a week away.

He would have to be content with trying to find Canada during the meeting. Hopefully, no one else had the same idea.

Netherlands sighed, putting down the pen. He had been hoping to slip this to Canada during the next meeting. Hopefully, no one would interfere.

He had written a poem, decorating the page with drawings of tulips and maple leaves. Hopefully, Canada got the hint that they belonged together.

Netherlands had never felt this way about anyone before, and frankly, it scared him. But he would make sure that Canada understood that his feelings for him were true.

Romano was stress-baking. It was something he rarely did, and only under extremely stressful circumstances. Oddly enough, wars never counted among those.

He was stressed because, in a few days, he would see Canada again. Did Canada make a decision, or was he still overwhelmed by it all? And did he decide that he would go through with the polygamy thing, or would he choose only one person? And, if only one person, would the relationship work out, or would it wither and leave room for the cycle to repeat?

The fact that Italy was one of his rivals didn't help matters. He was always inferior to his brother, and he didn't want Canada to admit that too. Just once, Romano wanted to be the preferred brother, and while he had his childhood friendship with Canada to his advantage, he wasn't entirely sure that it would work. Because he'd also seen his fair share of stories where the childhood friend was the unlucky one when it came to love.

The day of the world meeting, Canada strode into the conference building, feeling confident for a change. He had established that he was still remembered, and he now had a number of friends that wanted to hang out with him. And that wasn't even considering his admirers.

But he'd made his choice. And even though he decided that polygamy would be the best course of action – less broken hearts, and it kept the dragon inside happy – he would still take things slow. He would choose one person, build a relationship (to see if it would actually work), before reintroducing the idea of polygamy. And for the past month, three nations in particular had been in mind.

Norway had been a brother to him a long time ago, until he didn't return and France found him instead. But Norway had been a constant presence in the Arctic Circle, from their meetings to their hockey games. Not to mention, the help he'd given him with his magic. And in general, he enjoyed Norway's company.

Romano had been a childhood friend, offering him advice and support, and taking him under his wing. Romano had been the one he went to when he first considered becoming an independent nation. Again, he enjoyed Romano's company, and he felt honoured that Romano felt comfortable enough with him to be himself.

And then there was Netherlands. The two had forged a strong bond after the World Wars, particularly the second one. He loved the moment he realised that the stern-looking nation had a soft side, and that Canada was one of the few people allowed to see that soft side.

The three of them had occupied his thoughts the most, and a lot of meditation time had been spent on deciding which one. After several days of meditating (which he should thank India for), he made his choice.

Now, he just needed to get to that nation.

He smiled when he entered the meeting room, noticing that the chosen nation was already there, and sitting alone. Taking a deep breath to steel his nerves, Canada walked up to the nation.

"Is this seat free?" he asked.

The other looked up in surprise, and after processing who it was and what had been said, he nodded his head. Canada smiled, and took the seat.

"How have you been?" the other asked, trying not to sound nervous.

"I've been busy," Canada exhaled. "But, why don't we discuss it over dinner? Just the two of us?"

Romano's eyes widened, and he eagerly nodded his head.

I'd kind of been hoping that it would be split into two chapters, but the story decided otherwise. So, this is the last chapter. Thanks to everyone who's supported this story all this time. I really appreciate it.

And the three nations aren't random. Remember those polls at the beginning of the story? These are the top three of the combined polls. While Netherlands and Norway were only two points apart, Romano was way ahead.
