"Bro, I'm starving," Toph groaned, holding her stomach and collapsing onto Sokka's couch.

Sokka rolled his eyes, use to his friend's drama. "Well," he said as he turned off his stove, "it's a good thing I just finished makings some ramen."

Toph raised an eyebrow as she shot back up. "Really? I didn't take you to be into Asian cuisine."

He snorted. "That's because it's hardly even Asian-inspired. Here, I poured you a bowl."

Considering how Toph grew up in southern California, surrounded by restaurants literally specializing in ramen, she was pretty sure that ramen was Japanese (Her friends had always assumed she grew up on it because she was Chinese). So, she had no idea what Sokka meant what he said that his ramen was "hardly Asian-inspired."

That is, until she looked down at her paper bowl.

"Sokka, what is this?" Toph was faced with yellowish curly noodles sitting in a yellowish-brownish pool of what-could-be broth. There was no meat, no vegetables, no egg, and no seasoning in sight.

Sokka, already slurping up his noodles, peered into her bowl. Finding nothing wrong with it, he frowned and told her, "Beef ramen."

"There's no beef in this bowl!"

Innocently, he asked, "Why would they put meat in packaged ramen?"

Horrified, Toph repeated, "Packaged ramen?"

Sokka sighed, put down his bowl, and turned to trash where he fished out a red wrapper with the word "MARU-CHAN" displayed across the front. But, surely enough, below the company name it was written "Ramen Noodle Soup Beef Flavored." Toph turned the packaging over to find the three steps into making "Ramen Noodle Soup" (including placing a block of dry noodles into a pot of boiling water before pouring in a "seasoning packet").

"Sokka, this is not Japanese ramen," Toph told him, almost disgusted by what was placed in front of her when she compared it to the humongous pile of food that she was normally given when she requested ramen.

The boy didn't seem bothered, however, as he shrugged in response. "Why do you think I said it wasn't Asian cuisine? Toph, have you never had packaged or, like, cup ramen?"

"No! Why would I when I could get almost the real deal by going into town!?"

"I can't believe this. You're in your junior year of college and you've never had ramen. That's like, a staple food! Here," Sokka laughed as he rooted around in a drawer for a plastic spoon and fork, "just try it."

"I'm rich, so I get whatever I want," Toph explained as she hesitantly took the plasticware from him.

Sokka gave her an encouraging nod.

With one more wary glance at the piles of noodles below her, Toph said, "Well, here goes nothing… Shit, that's good."
