It was a Friday afternoon at Beacon. Classes were over for the week, and students were mulling about, gearing up for the weekend.

In one of the gardens, however, a girl lay under the shade of a tree, listless in the grass. A soft breeze passed by, ruffling both her hair and the foliage above.

Ah, that feels nice…

If I weren't in a committed relationship and didn't have people who cared about me, I wouldn't mind this being my final moment…

...

..

...

For Ruby, time slowed down. Her breathing evened out. Everything felt right.

I feel as if I could become one with the universe.

...

Almost there.

Almost-

"Ruby, it's time to head back-

Damnit.

-We have a meeting with Ozpin, remember? And then we have to get ready for movie night."

"Oh, Pyrrha. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum."

"What?"

"Don't let the bastards grind you down."

"When and where did you even learn that?"

"Just now. The wind spoke to me."

"Right… In any case, what are you doing here?"

"Abandoning my earthly desires."

"Damnit, Ruby. I told you not to eat Ren's brownies before the rest of us."

"It was Ren's fault. What was I supposed to do when faced with unguarded brownies cooling in the kitchen? Besides, I only ate one."

"That's enough for like four people."

"Oh…"

Rather than face the reality that was bearing down on her, Ruby simply closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Sighing, Pyrrha bent down, gently rolled Ruby over and hoisted the younger girl up at her side like a hip-hugger laundry basket. As Pyrrha made her way back to the headmaster's office, casually checking her scroll in one hand and carrying Ruby in the other, they made for quite the sight.
