AN: My initial idea to end 'A Nangela Fic' was to have Angela and Nanette see snippets of their future together as they looked into each other's eyes and counted down the last ten seconds of the year. Ultimately, I scrapped that idea for the simpler ending, on account of time and lack of ideas. I was very proud of this particular part and decided to post it as a bonus chapter. Enjoy!
(Nine Years Later)
The smell of Thanksgiving pounded into the nostrils of both girls as Angela opened the door to her house: turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, pie and (of course) tuna casserole. Since Kimmy and Derek's marriage, Thanksgiving had become less and less of an annual disappointment. Kimmy's culinary skills eventually got her out of managing Budgie Burger and into owning and cooking at her own restaurant in Michigan. Angela held the door as Nanette gingerly stepped through the threshold.
"Hello Angel Fish." William called out. "Mom and Kimmy could use some help getting stuff on the table."
"On it." She replied. "Um…do we have room for one more at the table?"
William got up and quizzically scanned his daughter's guest. Though she and Nanette had been cordial for past few years, there was still a feeling he couldn't shake about her. His daughter had gone from despising her with a passion to having her attend family holiday functions. Nonetheless, he still pulled an extra seat for her and set up another place.
Within minutes, dinner was ready. Before everyone ate, each went around the table and gave something they were thankful for. Last to go were Angela and Nanette.
"I'm thankful for my family for being there to help me and guide me. I'm thankful that even now at 99, we still have Grandma Lou to join us at the table. But, most of all, I'm thankful for sharing this holiday and hopefully all the holidays to come with the love of my life, Nanette Manoir."
"I share in Angela's gratitude for allowing me to be a presence in her life as well as all of yours." Nanette immediately interjected. "And in that spirit, we have some news to share."
The entire table went silent as Angela lifted her hand from the table. Seated on her fourth digit was a subtle sterling silver ring ornamented with a trio of diamonds colored red, white, and blue. Even her normally clueless brothers somehow managed to do the math on this one. All of them had a feeling to one degree or another that Angela was a lesbian, and that if she were to come out to them, it wouldn't be surprising. But to call Nanette of all people not only the love of her life but now her fiancé was too much to process. Finally Lulu spoke up.
"So that's why you hated her all those years. It makes sense now. But if she makes you happy, we're happy."
"Hear, hear." Said William as the table raised their glasses to their honor.
