A young teen of about thirteen shot up from his place on the ground, taking in a sharp breath, sweat dripping down his face, panting deeply. He managed to calm himself down before placing both hands on his face and resting his arms on his legs.
'Dammit.' he thought. 'Another nightmare.' He hasn't gotten any good sleep in months since he's been here in Inferis, and it shows.
His hair, black as night with white highlights evident, was long and unkempt, reaching down to his lower back in a tangled mess. His eyes, a brilliant silver shade, were dull and sullen, dark bags visible underneath his eyes, of which were behind a pair of well worn glasses. He was thin as well, having barely eaten due to being on the run.
It was early morning, even if one couldn't tell due to the Kingdom's natural red colored sky, but as long as he's been here, it's easy to tell night from day.
He got up from the base of the tree he was sleeping at and adjusted his cloak, throwing the hood over his head as he began to trek somewhere, anywhere, to get enough distance from his captors.
He's been here for months, and he hasn't been able to leave due to how guarded the Country's border was, and he hated it, the thought making him feel trapped like a mouse in a cage.
He had to get out of here, and he had to soon, otherwise, he doesn't think his sanity will last much further.
He couldn't let them get him, not again...
He had walked for hours, only stopping for water and to eat any wild berries he could find along the way.
But, things began to look up for him, for he found a small town on his endless trek. Maybe there was someone there who would be willing to give him food and shelter for the time being.
As he walked through the town, he noticed from beneath his hood how the people kept their heads low as they went about their business. Then, he noticed the guards walking about.
It made him frown at seeing these people oppressed by a tyrant of a King.
He continued on his way through the town, now just walking aimlessly. These people were to fearful to help him it seemed, and he could only sigh.
But then, he found himself stopping for an unknown reason, and found himself in front of an old antique shop. He pondered why his feet brought him here, but knew fate never made strange coincidences before.
He entered the shop, the bell ringing over head. The interior was old and dusty, the pale light from outside barely illuminating the interior. But, the teen could see the many objects that lined the walls of the shop.
"Well well well, not often a youngin like you comes to a place like this." The teen turned to see an elderly man approach him, a soft expression on his features. "So, you looking for anything in particular lad?" The male shook his head.
"Not really sir, I'm just looking around for now." The elderly man nods.
"Of course, take as much time as you'd like." The teen nods as the man walked away, leaving them to their own devices.
He walked around the shop, looking, fiddling with anything that caught his immediate attention, but most of the stuff was far to old or almost broken. But then, he saw something.
Laying besides a shelf, wrapped head to toe in browned cloth. Curious, he walked over to it and picked it up, the item being rather heavy, but sat nicely in his grasp. But, there was something about this item that called out to him.
He approached the counter and sat the wrapped item down, the shop owner approaching the boy and the item he had just placed down on the counter. Upon seeing the familiar wrapped cloth, the man's eyes went wide. "Oh, I see you found something very old that has been in this shop since my Grandfather owned it."
The Clerk took the item and stood it up straight before unwrapping it. But, once the cloth was off, the teen gave a silent gasp in utter awe.
Before him was a sword of peerless beauty. It was a longsword with a slender form in it's glistening scabbard. Every part of the sword from the guard to the pommel seem like they are made out of dazzling silver, a cross-shape star design decorates the sword's guard.
"Woah…" the owner nods at the boy's words.
"Indeed, but, it's the blade itself that's the master piece." The man unsheathed the blade, and upon sight did the teen's eyes widen further.
Pure Crystal. The blade itself was made out of a gem-like material that glistened in the faint light, and the teen could feel the power radiating off it's form.
"I-It's beautiful!" he exclaimed softly.
The Clerk nods in agreement. "Yes, this sword was crafted by a piece of the heavens that is said to have fallen to Earthland. It's heavy so not many people can use it, and has been sitting there collecting dust for decades, but if someone like you have found it…"
Silver eyes narrowed in confusion. "What do you mean."
The man gave a deep chuckle. "I was thinking, that a sword like this deserves to be used, and seeing as you've found it, I'm willing to give it to you." The teen's eyes widened.
"What!? No no! I can't take such an beautiful item!" The owner shook his head.
"Lad, this blade will only side and collect dust, and even if someone else in this kingdom finds it, they would only use it for their own nefarious purpose." The teen looks down, but then, he recalled something the man just said.
"What do you mean…'this kingdom'?" The shop owner smirked lightly.
"It's not hard to tell when someone isn't from Inferis lad, and you're definitely not from around here." The teen flushed lightly, but didn't say anything. "So, does a kid like you have a name?"
The boy looked up at him, a smile on his face. "...Altan. My name is Altan Nozomu."
-FT-
The shop owner closed down shop early that day as he brought Altan to his home, sword once again wrapped in it's cloth. They stayed discreet as possible, but then again, no one seemed to pay attention to anyone else around the town.
It didn't take them long to reach the house of the shop keeper. It was a nice abode, nothing large or small for that matter, and Altan found it quite nice, like a small light amongst a dreary place.
As the two entered the house, Altan found the interior a bit bare, pictures hanging from the walls of the house, showing various people, primarily of the shop keeper when he was younger.
The old man ushered Alan to follow him into the dinning room, which the teen did without question. THe man then directed him to sit down at the wooden table as he disappeared into the kitchen.
Altan sat down in the chair as he looked around the area, finding the dining room was more bare than that rest of the house, save for a window that let in the last light of day into the room. But then, Altan smelled something delicious as he turned and found the old man coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of soup, still seaming in his grasp and placed it down in front of the teen, whose mouth was watering at the sight of his first taste of real food in months.
Without any hesitation, the teen began to dig in, savoring the taste of the soup. As he ate, he noticed the man looking at him with a fond smile, which confused him.
Stopping himself from eating further, he looked up to the old man, a questioning look on his face. "Why are you being so nice to me…?" the man shrugged.
"You reminded me of my son before he died twenty years ago, and thought maybe having some company over would be a nice change of pace. And for future reference, you may call me Kyle." Altan nods, a grateful smile on his face.
"...thank you…" Kyle just waved him off.
"It's nothing, honestly. Now, I'll show you to your room for tonight.
-FT-
Kylp opened a door, showing a room kept clean, and was surprisingly dust free. "This room belonged to my son, I clean it every other week. His clothing should fit you too by the way." Altan turned to the man, his smile blinding.
"I don't know how I could ever repay you Kyle." The old man smiles fondly.
"You can do me one thing, come tomorrow, I want you to leave Inferis as soon as possible, a boy like you doesn't need to be here." Altan nods, it's been his plan from the start, but with the people after him, he has his work cut out for him.
"I promise I will." The old man nods.
"Good, now good night, Altan." The man left, closing the door behind him as Altan turned to the darkened room. He rose his arm as a ball light formed above his open palm as he looked around the room further.
The first thing he did was discard his own clothing, leaving his thin, yet muscular frame bare to the world and began rummaging through the drawers and got himself some new clothing.
For now he wore a grey long sleeved shirt with a black hooded vest over it, zipped up halfway, baggy jeans on his lower half tucked into a pair of boots on his feet.
He released the ball of light as it floated right next to him as he approached a vanity and fixed his hair with a brush in the room, and managed to tame most of it, and tied it back in a loose pony tail.
He gave a sigh as he fell on the bed, and moaned in satisfaction at feeling the softness underneath him, having not slept in a bed for years now, and it was pure bliss.
But then, his thoughts turned to how he should get out of Inferis. He can't just waltz on through, the borders are heavily guarded, and even then there's a giant gorge that crosses the borders as well, and only a few bridges that cross between the rest of the continent and Inferis.
If only he could fly like a bird or a pegasus, then, he could go anywhere away from this place…
Wait, flying…that's it!
He could make a spell that would enable him to fly out of Inferis, above the guards and gorge, and finally get to somewhere safe.
It was then his attention went to the sword wrapped in the cloth. He sat up from the bed and grabbed it, unwrapping it as he stared at the sword. In all honesty, it was a work of art, and he feels he's not worthy of having it, but was given it regardless.
"But…" he began, "what to call you?" every good weapon has a name, so why not do the same with a sword such as this. But, no good name seemed to come to mind.
"...this sword was crafted by a piece of the heavens that is said to have fallen to Earthland…"
He remembered what Kyle told him about the sword earlier that day, and hummed. So it was like a fragment basically…
"That's it." he said. "The Fragmented Star Sword." The name fits it perfectly, seeing it's divine appearance and that fact it's a piece of the heavens itself.
He sat the Sword down on the night stand as he got himself comfortable on the bed.
Times like this made him miss his old home when he was a child. The peaceful and lively atmosphere of his home village when his mother was still alive…
His Mother…
Oh gods how he missed her each and every passing day. Seeing her face, hearing her voice, tasting her food, and hugging her and basking in her warmth. He missed her so so very much.
He felt a familiar wetness on his cheek and quickly rubbed the tears away.
He wondered how life would have been if his power never manifested. Maybe he'd still be back home with his mother still alive and well, or maybe he would have left home for adventure instead. But now, he was on the run for his life away from the people who want his powers for their own purposes.
He sighed as he rolled over and looked up at the ceiling of the room.
Hopefully, tomorrow, he can finally leave this place, and hopefully for good. And with those final thoughts, he went to sleep.
Altan's eyes opened as he found himself in a dark grey void.
He blinked in surprise and finding him where he was, and looked around in curiosity.
Suddenly, glittering streams of light appeared and began to circle the teen in a cyclone of glittering light. But then, the voices started to be heard.
'You're not safe!"
'You must hurry and flea!"
'Your life's in grave danger!"
Altan looked at the lights all around him in confusion and concern. "What do you all mean?"
'A person tipped off the soldiers about a mysterious person in the town." a voice began.
Another continued where the last left off. 'Now a platoon of knights are coming to collect you."
'And worse, the Pale Horse leading them!" another finishes. Altan paled hearing that, and greatly so. The Pale Horse was leading the charge!? He had to go, and pronto!
'Hurry, there's no time to loose."
'They'll be there by dawn!"
'Get to safety."
'Get out of Inferis."
'Wake up!"
Altan eyes shot open as he sat up on the bed. Looking out the window, he saw it was still the dead of night, meaning he had some time before they arrived to the town.
He hopped off the bed and began gathering clothing around the room. It was by chance he found a large pack in the closet and packed everything inside of it. Making sure he had what was needed, he grabbed his cloak and Fragmented Star and left the room quietly.
He snuck into the kitchen and grabbed food for the trip he was about to embark on and placed it in his pack, as well as write Mr Kyle a quick note and sat it on the table.
With his work done and supplies stocked, he exited the house. Looking left and right, he saw no one around, and knowing the coast was clear, he dashed down the streets into the night.
But as he ran, he found guards positioned around the town's border, and his eyes narrowed, wondering how he'll get through? He couldn't wait for down to arrive and the men to leave their positions.
Suddenly, and idea hit him.
Ducking behind a corner of a building, he took a breath and stuck out his arms as he uttered out. "Pitch Void."
Darkness expelled off his form as it spanned outwards for a little over a mile, blocking out every ounce of light inside the now blackened dome of darkness that covered the town, shocking and confusing the guards.
"What the-!? Where did everything go!?" One exclaimed. However, while they were disoriented, they never noticed a figure sneak by as they made their way into the forest, and as quick as the dome of darkness appeared, it vanished, adding to the overall confusion.
Soon, they all thought it was just them being sleep deprived and left it at that.
-FT-
Altan raced through the forest, glasses in hand, his silver eyes glowing softly as he was able to see in the night thanks to his magic.
Okay, so escaping the town was easier than expected, and if he kept up the pace, he could reach the gorge by a couple hours before sundown. He just hoped and prayed for the safety of the town.
For when the Pale Horse was around…only death and devastation laid in his wake.
-FT-
Dawn quickly arrived upon the town, and on the barren horizon, a small army was seen heading towards it. And leading the charge was a man in his late twenties, black hair on his head that reached down to his back and held in a braid. His eyes were full on white in color, but he wasn't blind whatsoever, it was just a natural occurrence. He wore armor of black and dark purple, his cape billowing behind him, a maddening grin on his face.
'This time, the brat won't give us the slip so easily, and son he will be ours!'
-FT-
Kyle had just finished getting ready for the day and went to wake up Altan to send him on his way. He approached the door and knocked on it. "Altan, it's time to get up!" no answer. The man gave a sigh, guessing the boy wasn't a morning person.
He opened the door, only to blink at the sight of the empty room. 'Did he get up earlier?' he closed the door and headed into the dinning room, and saw a folded piece of paper on the table top.
Curious, he opened it and began reading the contents, which was as followed:
To Mr Kyle,
I forever thankful for your kind hospitality in giving me a place to stay and food to eat as well as new clothing, but sadly I had to leave. I wanted to say goodbye, but there was no time to waste, so this letter would have to do.
I should have told you this sooner, but I'm wanted by the King and his group, not for anything bad, but they want my power for themselves. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about it. I received a vision last night warning me of the Pale Horsemen's arrival at dawn, so I grabbed supplies and left.
I'm leaving Inferis like I promised, and hopefully, I never come back. Again, I thank you Kyle, and goodbye.
-Altan
-FT-
The Small platoon of men arrived in the town as they dismounted their horses and their leader turned to them. "Spread out and search every corner of this town, leave no house or shop unchecked!"
The men all nod. "YES SIR!"
The men quickly scattered as they barged into every shop, house, you name it, leaving no place unturned or unchecked.
-FT-
Kyle had finished reading the letter and had just pocketed it when his door was unexpectedly thrown off its hinges, causing him to look on in shock at the black armored men. "What in blazes-!?"
The men pushed him aside as they began to scour the house for any leads on their target. Kyle, on the other hand, wasn't happy in the slightest.
"You can't just barge in here!" he exclaimed. One of the knights drew his sword and pointed it at his neck.
"Don't talk, you lowly pile of filth." the knight demanded. "We're here on Lord Shade's orders." Kyle's eyes went wide.
'The pale Horse, Karito Shade, is after Altan!?' he thought. If a Horsemen of all people is after the boy, than his letter was right, they were after him for a more sinister reason after all!
Just then one of the guards emerged from down a hallway, and in hand was a set of worn pants and a shirt.
"These are his clothes, he's been here!" the knights quickly surrounded Kyle who's eyes went wide before narrowing.
The Pale Horsemen, Karito Shade, looked down from his seat at the elderly man on his knees before him, with a smirk on his face.
-FT-
"Well well well…" he began in a sing-song voice. "What do we have here? A tratorious old man who housed the King's Prize?" His eyes narrowed slightly. "Now then, tell me where the boy is hiding and I might just let you live."
Kyle scoffed at him. "You're to late, he already left last night and is long gone from here." Karito shrugged.
"Oh well then, if I leave now I might just be able to catch up to him." His smirk turned into a sinister grin, the mere sight of the expression sending harsh shudders down the spines of all around him. "But before I do, punishment is due."
Karito stood up and walked over to Kyle. Suddenly, he grabbed the man's face with his left hand, his white eyes giving off a wicked gleam.
"And that punishment…is death."
Right before everyone's eyes, Kyle's body began to rapidly age before he was nothing more than a skeleton, and not even seconds later a mere pile of dust, ashes, and clothing.
Karito clapped his heads of any remaining dust as he turned towards his knights, his grin turning back into a smirk. "Gather the Platoon, we leave now!"
It was noon, and Altan was worn out.
He had continued none stop for hours before stopping here at a small stream and getting water to drink. He hoped Kyle was alright, the kind man having shown him hospitality…
But suddenly, he felt a stirring inside of him.
'Altan…"The boy looked up, his eyes flashing as he saw a small stream of glittering light flying towards him. But the boy knew that voice.
"Mr Kyle!?" he exclaimed in a soft whisper. "Wha-what happened!?"
'The Pale Horse…you must hurry, no time to loose, he's after you as we speak!" the stream of glitter faded away as the teen nods, picking up his backpack as he began his long trek once again.
But, he couldn't help but wonder, '...when will I be able to finally rest?'
He pressed on, hoping to reach the gorge before sundown, and finally be able to leave this place.
Karito rood his stallion with a smile.
Soon, the brat would be back in his grasp, and his king would have his power, and all of Earthland will be theirs for the taking!
He's still upset how the little bastard escaped from his clutches all those months ago, but this time, he wasn't getting away, he'll make sure of it. He already go chewed out by his king for his failure, he wasn't going to have it again.
He couldn't wait to tortre the boy, make him know pain and suffering, and once the light was dead in those eyes, rip out his powers.
He could just imagine it now!
Maybe he'll let Dee Eye Ell help him in torturing the little bastard, Gods know she wants a go at him as well, but, he called first crack at him.
But one thing's for certain, he would get the boy, and he won't be denied.
Altan looked down at the gorge with a frown.
The sun was setting on the horizon and it would be dark soon, so he had to get over it somehow. Bu, it was deep, extremely deep. One just had to look down, and you'd find the endless abyss of darkness that'll lead to one's imminent demise.
He thought about how he should get across, but then he felt it.
A wave of dread and death wash over him, his skin draining of color, and he knew, the Pale Horsemen was here.
"Well, if it isn't the little boy we've been searching for." Altan turned and came face to face with Karito and his Platoon of armed soldiers. He gripped Fragmented Star's scarbard tightly in his left hand as he glared at them. "Now, what do you say you just give up and come quietly with us?"
Altan's glare hardened. "Never!" Karito shrugged.
"Fun way it is then." He gave his sinister grin. "Now, Arise!"
The ground began to tremble as the earth began to split apart before Altan. And From those cracks, one hundred skeletons emerged, armed with weapons and the likes, and ready to fight.
Altan unsheathed his sword, the blade gleaming beautifully in the light, and the sight caused many of the knights, Karito included, to ogle the blade.
"Damn," the Pale Horsemen said, "I cannot wait to take that sword for myself!" Altan's eyes narrowed as he raised his sword.
He took a calming breath. "Shine my Star!" the gemstone blade glowed bright silver before it spilt into thousands of silver star flecs that circled around Altan as he directed their movement with his bladeless hilt. It was as if the boy was surrounded by a galaxy.
The knights and their leader were surprised to saw the least, not expecting the sword to just split into a sea of stars. Karito just scoffed as he gave his command.
"I don't care about some light show. Take town the boy, but make sure he lives!" he ordered his skeletal minions. They hundred of skeletons charged the boy, who just looked at them all with a passive gaze.
Altan then swung the hilt of his bade in an arc motion, the stars following his command, and wasting no time at all, each and every last skeleton was cut down into pieces before dissolving into dust.
The knights all stared, dumbfounded at the sight of their Leader's minions effortlessly defeated. The stars all gathered back at the hilt and reformed the crystal blade as Altan sheathed it once more.
Karito just watched with a rather giddy expression on his face. "Looks like the little puppy learned some new tricks it seems." His grin returned full force. "Stay back men, i'll deal with him personally." The knights nod as the Pale Horseman bega to approach the boy on his horse, a deathly pitch black aura surrounding him. "Alright, I think play times over little puppy, now, it's time for you be put down and know who you're betters are!"
Altan took a cautious step back, only to feel his heel go over the ledge of the gorge behind him. He looked back at it before looking back at the Horseman, then back to the gorge.
He had an idea, an extremely reckless one, but if it meant not going with them, he'll take it.
He then looked back at Karito, giving a two finger salute with his hands…
Then fell back into the gorge.
Karito's eyes went wide as he raced over to the ledge and saw the boy fall into the abyss below, and said the only thing that came to mind. "...well fuck!"
-FT-
As Altan fell down into the gorge, a small smirk on his face.
Oh, he wasn't about to die, quite the opposite in fact. Last night's ideas helped him make the perfect spell that'll get him out of here, and now was the perfect time to test it.
"Gods I hope this work…" he muttered. "Bellerophon!" and he was engulfed in light.
-FT-
Karito looked over the edge and cursed. 'Damn it! The brat commited suicide, now we'll never get the Soul Heart!' Oh was the king going to have his head this time. But maybe he could work around this, and say that now, they wouldn't have to worry about him getting more powerful and becoming a problem later on.
He turned back and approached his men, but he had looked just a couple of seconds longer, he would have seen a glimmer of light from the gorge.
"Alright men, let's head back and-"
Suddenly, a streak of white light shout out of the gorge with a great whoosh! The all turned and saw a sight that stunned all.
A glowing white horse made of pure light with angelic wings extending from it's side. And on it's back, with golden rope in hand connected to the horse's moth was none other than Altan, who looked back at them.
And for a moment, he and Karito's eyes met, the two staring at one another before the teen turned away as the Pegesus made of Magic Energy flew him into the sky, and off into the horizon.
And in minutes, he was gone.
Karito looked on, but no longer did his face hold his ever present smile or smirk, but now was an expression of unbridled rage and fury at his target flying away and roared in anger.
That brat will pay one day, this he swore!
The night had come and Altan was flying over the clouds, and for the first time in months, he gave a sigh of relief and happiness. Finally, he was free, free of Inferis, and away from their lands. He just about cried in joy at his new found freedom.
And what took the cake was the night sky around him.
The Stars glittered like jewels, reminding him of his sword, and shined so brightly in the sky.
But, he didn't know what he would do next, now that he was free and away from Inferis. He didn't know where his Master was, the man having left him a week before he was captured, and his home was leveled years ago.
He leaned his head back and took in a deep breath before exhaling softly, basking in the feeling of the wind blowing around him.
For now, he would enjoy his freedom, then think about what to do next, for why rush?
Because for now, he could live in peace.
Guess who?
Yes, I'm back, but the posts will happen only one to twice a month, so don't ask about updates please!
Anyways, as one can see, the story is now a complete over haul of its original self, and I thought the change would be nice.
Now, onto some information:
Altan Nozomu - the names loosely means Sunrise Hope, or rather a Hopeful Sunrise. He's still a Demigod, and has special abilities, one primarily seen throughout the chapter and the story, and is the central reason why he's wanted by the Inferis. His origins are still the same, but with different circumstances around what happened which will be expanded upon later. Also, I don't have a decided pairing for him as of yet, he's bisexual, but will still end up with Wendy. He's also about fourteen around this time, but won't be going to Fairy Tail just yet.
Fragmented Star - I watched SAO: Alicization and fell in love with Alice's sword and made a rendition/homage to it, but instead of yellow flowers, it's silver stars.
Inferis Kingdom - the Dark kingdom, otherwise dubbed the Underworld(which the name Inferis means in Latin). I can't say much for they will be expanded upon as the story progresses, but it's run by their King, and his Four Horsemen(yes, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, I'm still keeping that tidbit from the original story line).
Next Chapter is in the works along with my other stories and will be published sometime in the foreseeable future.
So remember to Follow, Favorite, and post a review on your thoughts and I'll see you all next chapter!
Next Time...
Chapter 2: Blue Rose Under a Snowy Sky
