I've been playing Monster Hunter Generations when this idea came up. I've seen only two fanfics with Mizutsune in them so I'm just writing my own.

I do NOT own Monster Hunter.

Edit: Now this is the first chapter which I have updated to, hopefully, make it less painful to read. After all, it has been almost three years since I first started this story and along with it, I've learned how beautiful fanfiction can be. So I hope that this is a bit better than the original.

The guild lobby was filled with activity, the smith made armors and weapons all day and many hunters were waiting for their companions to hunt down their next targets, while others were currently enjoying their break from their last quest, having heartful conversations about their various achievements.

Among the crowd, four hunters were sitting together at a more secluded table, isolated from the rest as they were discussing their next plans. Having known each other for a very long time, their small group had become something very precious for them all, each of their different personalities complementing them as a whole. However, one of them in specific was wearing an entire set of an Astalos armor, gleaming brightly within the sunlight, while he was sharing his experience from his last quest to the others.

"I've had to track down this Astalos for a long time now, but I finally got the last item I needed from it to craft this handy longsword.", proudly presenting it in front of his friends, the others were clapping and complimenting him in response, the Felyne behind the counter looking over towards them with interest and a gleam in its eyes before its tail subconsciously touched the cooking fire, jumping in alarm before it held its tail close to itself.

"You have excelled yourself this time Ben, not bad. You don't rest until you have the complete set of an armor, right?", one of his friends commented. True enough, Ben was very ambitious and focused on his goals, however, what only the three of them knew was that he was in fact very distanced from other hunters in return. Thus, only very few people would come to know the kind and innocent figure that was hiding beneath his usual detached cover.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be? But enough of that, what about you all? Is there anything in particular you'd want to share? I'm very curious to know.", showing his achievements was never something he really enjoyed, even amongst his friends. But in turn, he was instead all the more interested in listening to the others, for it allowed him to simply lean back and imagine their little journeys while taking a sip from his drink.

The hunter who was sitting beside him stopped drinking, remembering something that had evaded him until now while seeming very intrigued all of a sudden to his friends.

"Now that you mention it, I almost forgot. On my last quest I had to collect some mushrooms for a village, I thought I'd simply lean back and enjoy nature for once, but during my trip I've encountered a fox like leviathan. Believe it or not, it was capable of creating several soap bubbles of some sort and its fur was covered with foam. And I can't even begin to describe its appearance, seeing something like that, I've seriously let my guard down… well, needless to say, it was a grave mistake.", having unexpectedly captured the interest of everyone in an instant, he continued upon witnessing their silent request to do so.

"I tried to run away, as I would do with any unknown monster suddenly standing in front of me, but the foam covering the ground made it increasingly difficult to do so and I accidently slipped because of it. However, when I thought that it was certainly going to kill me, it didn't attack me at all and just stared at me for a moment before simply walking away.", the hunter shivered a bit at those memories, still not entirely sure whether or not it was merely amused at his antics or thought that he was simply not worth it to kill. He was fine with either of these options.

"You still have to collect mushrooms? Why don't you hunt some bigger things to rank up? Those collecting quests won't help you.", a hunter clad in a complete Rathalos armor replied, causing his friend to stare at him with mild irritation upon suddenly changing the topic like that. Did they actually listen to him or did they just wonder about the mushrooms…?

Ben couldn't suppress a small smile, his friend Darren was right. Only the important jobs will help you to climb through the ranks, however, if that was not something you wanted, then that was completely fine. Darren also had the title ' Red hunter ' for defeating a particularly dangerous Rathalos, who thought it could simply lay claim onto a village. In the end, Darren had so many materials from this monster that he could make thousands of Rathalos armor sets.

"Did you at least manage to gain some knowledge from anyone about this curious new monster?", truthfully, Ben was not entirely interested, but somehow the description that was given to him still didn't leave his mind. The fourth hunter was silently listening, taking in every bit of information with silent interest. He was often together with the others to hunt, thus, they all got to know him better than anyone else, but he still wasn't really interested in talking. To an extent, he was similar to Ben, at least when he was not together with his friends but instead around others.

Thinking back about his brief research, he recalled what little bit of information he managed to gain.

"Well, the Yukumo chef told me that my description matched with a monster called Mizutsune. A fox leviathan, which is even more than capable of challenging a Zinogre. It must be very powerful, I mean, I've witnessed first hand that its tail slash is not something you want to be aquinted with… along with its seemingly endless amount of bubbles. Guess I'm lucky that I got away so easily.", now Ben was beyond curious, his previous disinterest slowly fading away as he imagined the mysterious monster. Perhaps it was merely because he loved the Misty Peaks in general, but a fox leviathan…? He wanted to see for himself what that was about. New monsters were always exciting for him, but it was never truly a reason for him to go out there and see it for himself when he could simply read multiple descriptions about it. However, this was something else…

"I have a new target then.", he stated as if he was talking about the weather.

All of the three hunters were now looking at him in surprise, his sudden motivation seemingly coming out of nowhere. They all knew very well how hard it was to get Ben to move or go somewhere if he wasn't interested beforehand, and thus, if he was showing interest like that, then he meant it.

"You really want to hunt that thing?", Darren was regarding Ben with an unreadable expression, multiple thoughts running through his mind.

"Hunting it? I would be the thirst one of us to actually see it properly, I was thinking about simply setting out to look for ourselves. And I mean, it is located within the Misty Peaks, no? Somebody wants to come with me?", he asked with gleaming eyes while regarding his friends.

Two of the hunters looked quite worried and shook their heads in response, the silent one in particular not being very keen to meet a monster such as this, but he was nonetheless happy to see that it had gotten Ben so excited in the first place. It was a rare but joyful sight. However, Darren had other thoughts in mind and nodded his head in agreement, intent of spending a small trip with him again if it meant that Ben could have somebody to talk to in his excitement.

"Well then, I'm coming with you. I mean, somebody has to watch your back, right?", Darren exclaimed with a smile.

"I know I can count on you. Then we're both going to see this Mizu..tsen..zune?", Ben stared at the table for a moment, having forgotten its actual name with the many thoughts running through his mind.

"Its called Mizutsune. I'm going to take my Rathalos armor along with my sword and shield. I'll be ready in some minutes, we can head off once you're ready, just give me a shout. It should be fun visiting Yukumo again as well, anyone tell me if you need something from there.", Darren thought back upon the last time he had visited said village, its peaceful atmosphere along with the beautiful landscape it was located in… he could definitely see why Ben favored this place so much.

"Oh, I wouldn't mind having one of those hot water baths they have there…", the silent one muttered to himself in humor, circling his drink in a slow motion on the table with a dreamy expression.

Waving their hands in goodbye as Ben and Darren were making their way towards the Misty Peaks not long after, the silent one couldn't help but wonder what sparked such an interest within Ben. However, with the two of them gone for now, he had to think about what to do next for himself, he certainly wouldn't mind to simply rest for once…

"You think they're going to make it?", his friend beside asked with interest, much to his dismay. He merely nodded in response and remained silent, taking a small sip from his drink. "You're never going to talk are you?", and it quickly turned into annoyance right afterwards.

"Be quiet and collect your mushrooms", he only replied while walking back to the table.

I won't differ too much from the original, but I hope it's better still.

Sigmar: It's not just odd, its terrible. But I'm happy to see you could still enjoy it!

TinyBoxMew: Thank you a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
