Some days, he doesn't know what's going to set him off. It can be something as subtle as a single word or a sound he doesn't even hear. It can be something he can't see, like a memory flashing through his lover's mind or a merely feeling crawling over his hairy skin. He can go from being okay one moment to looking for a fight, and when he's looking for one, he's either going to find it or make it, no matter how far he has to go or what old wounds he has to reopen.

Logan's got a suicide wish sometimes, but it's not easy to kill a man whose bones are stronger than metal and who has a healing factor to boot. He's lived through things that no other man could - does so quite regularly as a matter of fact -, but Kurt's still afraid that one day Logan's going to get what he's looking for and only realize after the deed that it's not really what he wants. There are times even after everything they've been through together that Kurt just can't reach him. For all his prayers, kind words, and gentle love, he can not reach the man he adores through all the anguish in his soul and blood and fury, both colored red, in his eyes.

But then there are the bright days. Logan's never been one who any one would mistake for being the sunshiny type of person, who can't see the darkness and pain in the world no matter how hard they look, but there are days where he is genuinely happy. Sometimes it takes a lot to spoil those rare moods. On those days, Kurt's as apt to find him listening to the radio and singing along in his deep, gruff voice while working on his bike as he is to find him in the woods, playing tag with the deer and never hurting one of them.

He's always a capricious beast, a short, feral package of dynamite just waiting to be set off, but Kurt's learned one steadfast aspect of Logan's personality. If he'll just let him alone, let him have his space and his fights and ja, even his blood when he needs it, Logan will eventually come home. He'll eventually return to him, even if he has to fly across the world to do it, and he'll take him in his arms again. And when he does, everything will seem right again, no matter what's actually happening in the world.

"So," Kurt asks, flicking the point of his blue, furry tail where it's curled around Logan's bare leg, "ze vorld is ending again?"

"Yeah," Logan mutters, his breath blowing hot and free against Kurt's velvety soft fur. "But we'll stop it, Elf. We always do."

"Ja," Kurt murmurs as Logan buries his face into his neck. Delight and arousal sweep through him as his lover licks and nibbles his tender skin through his fur, and the world is right again.

The End
