I'm glad I got so much positive feedback for this idea. Most would prefer a crossover between Battle Network and Star Force, so I decided to try something different.
To the reviewer that said this came off more as a game, I apologize, for that is what I know best. I'll see if I can integrate some of the show into this starting with this chapter. Fingers crossed it goes well. As for more details about Geo and Sonia, I already plan on it in a future chapter. Possibly when Harp Note comes onto the scene. Also, when I mention virus by name, simply look it up on the wiki or any other trusted Mega Man source. Anything not originally part of the series, I'll give a description. Now enough of my rambling, on to the recap.
Previously: Geo and his friends had just finished off a new type of virus called a Jammer virus. The fact that they formed from merging with humans gave them cause for alarm. After the mission, Geo was on his regular star-gazing adventure when he and Model X had come across the alien, Omega-Xis(Mega for short). After taking care of a few viruses in an old train, Maria had shown up after detecting Mega.
Mega sat- er, floated alone in a room. There were only a table and two chairs in it. The only window was a one-way mirror. The room was rigged so that he couldn't simply pass through the walls and he could be seen. He didn't know the humans were able to make an artificial Visible Zone.
Visible Zones are special areas where the Wave World can be seen by outsiders in certain conditions. That includes the inhabitants such as Hertzes and viruses. This is often due to a large concentration of EM waves, which makes Mega curious in how they pulled it off.
He ended up here after he and Geo followed Maria to HQ. Geo is right now having Model X looked at to see if the surge had damaged him in some way.
As Mega waited, he thought back to Kelvin's words. "Mega," he heard Kelvin's voice. "While you're on Earth, I need you to seek two people. First is my son, Geo. He's a brave kid. I know he can help in some way. Especially if what you say is true. The second is my friend, Maria. She and I are siblings in a way. She also commands a special group of people. She'll be able to help you in both the FMians and them. But when Maria questions you, hold nothing back. I want her to know everything."
Mega's musing was cut off at a door opening. The wall slid open and allowed Maria to enter, she sat down in one of the chairs as the door closed. She nodded to the window, before hearing a click.
She then turned to Mega. "Well, Omega-Xis, imagine my surprise that not only have you somehow stumbled upon my favorite nephew," Mega raised whatever passed as an eyebrow with that. "But you also have some information on my brother in everything but blood."
"Now before you read me the riot act," Mega said. He hoped he used that phrase correctly. "I fully intend on explaining everything to you."
"Oh?" Maria raised her brow. "And just why are you telling me and not Geo?"
"Because it's complicated." He said.
"It usually is." She retorted.
Mega took a deep breath, and explained.
Flashback
Mega was in front of Kelvin at the PEACE, ready to carry out the plan.
"Ready? It's a long process, and I never done it with living matter before." Mega said.
"That doesn't change the fact that people will get hurt if we don't hurry." Kelvin said.
"Heh." Mega snorted. "You have to be one of the strangest humans I ever met."
"Humans tend to be strange in their own ways. I'm sure you'll find out sooner or later, Mega." Kelvin grinned.
Just then a crash was heard.
"Oh, great. Now what?" Mega grumbled as he looked out the window. He saw a red glowing jewel before paling. Or what came off as paling for the guy. "We need to move, NOW!" He shouted.
And thus, Mega began the process. Kelvin could feel his body gain a… floating sensation. He looked down and saw himself glowing.
He then turned to Mega. "After you get us to the safe zone, head to Earth with that Andromeda Key."
"Yeah, yeah. You sure this Maria person can help?" Mega couldn't help but ask.
Kelvin grinned. "With Biometal? Absolutely. And… one more thing."
He lost his grin and gave a serious look to Mega. "Keep my son safe."
"I will." Mega said, nodding.
Flashback end
Maria was both shocked and overjoyed. Kelvin was alive. If she can find a way to make it a believable story, she could tell Hope and Aaron.
But that other bit worries her. "How could there be Biometal in space? All of them but one are accounted for, and we know it's on Earth. And what's this Andromeda Key?" She asked.
"Well, Andromeda is Planet FM's ultimate weapon. They use it for destroying planets. The idea is to drill into the planet's core before creating a wave that disrupts the core's equilibrium, resulting in an explosion from within."
"The proper term is 'implosion.'" Maria interjected.
"Whatever." Mega grumbled. "Anyway, long story short, I took the key needed to operate it. The location of it stays with me. As for the Biometal, there were two or three that looked similar to each other. Although they were big. Bigger than that Model X the kid was worried about."
Maria felt her blood go cold at the description. "And you say…it has a large red jewel. Was it mainly white?"
"Yeah, it was stark white with what looked to be what you humans call veins pulsing."
Maria then threw out an assortment of curses that she promised herself would never use in Geo and Alex's presence. As the curses grew in profanity, Mega felt his jaw drop. He heard Kelvin curse before, but nothing to this extreme. When she finished, she took a deep breath and straightened out her hair.
"Kelvin never told me that you had such a way with words."
"You mention any of that, especially near Geo, I'll delete you personally." She threatened.
"So, I take it you know what they are." He assumed.
She took a deep breath and explained. "What you described is what we call Model W."
"Model W?" Mega asked.
"While the majority of the Biometals represent heroes of a past age, Model W is that of a madman."
She thought back to all the history files her ancestors Ciel and Prarie left behind. How a madman in Ciel's era threatened to destroy the planet and it took the Legendary Reploid Model Z was made after to defeat him. Although it cost him his life.
Since then, Ciel began the Biometal project, but one of her scientists ended up creating Model W. And in bulk at that.
Soon after, Vent and Aile's story had begun with Model X, and later on as ZX. Thwarting Serpent and his Model W took the power of several Biometals. When they realized that there were more than one Model W, they worked together to track down the rest and destroy them.
Which, inevitably, ended up in meeting Grey and Ashe, the Model A Chosen Ones. The scientist that created the Model W was a man named Albert, who had aspired to be the Ultimate Mega Man and reset the world in which he called defective. The Model A Mega Men were his own creation, but they had put a stop to his plan and destroyed the Ouroboros, which was a fusion of all the remaining Model Ws in the world. Vent and Aile lost Model Z that day.
Later on, Thomas, a member of the Sage Trinity had sought to reset the world himself. Of the four Mega Men that sided with him, only two had proven to be redeemed in the end.
Thetis, the Ice Mega Man of Model L, was proven that humans were not as bad as he believed. After all, Aile had shown him nothing but kindness. Of course, then Grey decided to play matchmaker and became Thetis' wingman. Thetis ended up becoming a treasured ally and an even more treasured friend. Of course, whenever he and Aile got too close for her brother's comfort, he was often seen being nearly skewered with his own weapon by the overprotective brother.
Siarnaq, the Shadow Mega Man of Model P, lived a life of nothing but betrayal. He was left for dead by what he thought were his best friends. He could never talk normally again after that day, and as such had a synthesized voice in order to speak. The way he spoke symbolized the lack of emotion he had become that day. He thought he could trust no one ever again, but Vent and Aile had proved him wrong. The two were on a mission of bringing back Model Z because he was discovered to be in Siarnaq's possession. Despite being enemies, they risked their lives to save him from a collapsing tunnel from the ensuing battle. But when they were running out of time, he pushed to two out, saving them and condemning him. He thanked them, for giving him a reason to trust again, and returned Model Z. He was never seen again. The only thing they were able to dig up was Model P. They did however, give him a memorial that is still around to this day.
The other two Mega Men however, were a different story.
Aeolus, The Wind Mega Man of Model H, came off as cold. He would go to any lengths just to get one step ahead on his adversaries. One such instance was when he kidnapped Prarie and held her as ransom. He figured removing the commander would throw his enemies into disarray. However, he didn't count on Grey following after him. Normally, Model A's A-Trans ability would be a watered down version of the foes that were defeated.
Grey however, came up with a plan.
He combined several of his transformations to form a stream of continuous flight. Aeolus was unable to shake him, so he had no choice but to either fight Grey or lose his hostage. His pride wouldn't allow him to surrender, so he fought Grey. Which was what the Model A Mega Man was counting on. Grey had had enough of Aeolus and his attitude, so he felt that some poetic justice was due.
He A-Transed…into Aeolus. The ensuing dog fight had ended in Grey's favor after he used lightning from a storm to power up his cyclone attack. The wind Mega Man was blown away by his own attack. As such, Model H was the Guardians' asset once more.
As for Atlas, the Flame Mega Man of Model F, was only interested in finding strong opponents for her to fight. The Game of Destiny was, to her, the perfect opportunity. As time went on, however, her mind began to degrade due to the constant exposure to Model W while she was with Albert. It wasn't until Thomas had shown his true self that the deterioration got worse. It was apparent at a mission Ashe took. It was to check out an abandoned chemical production facility that had recently been brought back online. Atlas had given the impression that she intended on using it to make the ultimate bomb and wipe out the nearby cities in one fell swoop. However, it was just a ploy to get one of the Model A Mega Men to come to her. She felt cheated when they slowed her down with A-Trans in their first fight. When Ashe was on her way, she had the main production line refitted to be an arena, one where the two of them could let loose. The battle was filled with bullets and explosions. Ashe decided not to use A-Trans to show Atlas that she could win by her own merit. Atlas had actually enjoyed the challenge, whatever part that was not contaminated by Model W winning out. When it came down to it, Ashe had shot the last round, nailing Atlas in the forehead. Although the facility exploded and she had died, Atlas was able to get her wish. She had gone down fighting against a worthy opponent. As such, she had left with no regrets. Model F had followed Ashe back to the Guardian Base afterward.
Then came the final battle.
Thomas had revealed that he had pieced together fragments of different Model Ws recovered from the sea and created one great big one. That's when it was revealed that this Model W had a conscience. It was that of the madman who The Legendary Reploids stopped ages ago…Weil.
Weil had apparently planted a portion of his consciousness into Albert at the time when he was part of Ciel's research group. When Grey and Ashe defeated him, he moved onto a new host…Thomas. When the new Model W was completed, he had his entire essence transferred into it, transforming into a new being. It became Weil Sentinel, a being that had intended to reset the world into his own image.
It took the combined efforts of the last five Mega Man to defeat him. Whatever conscious remained had been sealed away in cyberspace by the Biometals. Weil was torn apart, never to be seen again.
"And now it seems that Albert and Weil's work has come back from the grave." Maria thought.
She then made a decision. She signaled toward the window and a click was heard. "We're done here. Have the Mega Men gather at the bridge for an emergency Code Omega meeting."
She then turned to Mega. "If you want more answers, you're going to have to come with me."
Mega paused for a minute, and nodded.
Everyone was gathered at the bridge, even Shun and Valerie, who had finished their missions. They were all wondering what Maria had to say to warrant a Code Omega. That code was only called in a possible world threatening situation.
Maria then walked in, Mega behind her, though no one but Geo could see him. Everyone noticed the grim look on her face.
"What's wrong, Commander?" Alex asked. With it being a Code Omega meeting, he needed to be professional.
Maria looked to the Mega Men and heaved a big sigh. "I have some disturbing news." She then activated a switch on her terminal, resulting in Mega being seen, much to the Mega Men's surprise. "After interrogating Omega-Xis here, I have found out something disturbing."
All of the Mega Men tense themselves. Is there a war coming? Is it a world crisis? Did Miles get trigger happy and launch a missile into space… again?
"It seems that Model W is not as extinct as we thought. These FMians appear to have access to several of them."
A gasp resounded from around the room. That monstrosity of a Biometal is still alive? Some of the Guardians had nightmares from just reading and hearing about it. Now they're going to be dealing with it?
That's when Hiro realized something. "Could Model W be the cause of the recent Jammer virus outbreak?"
"Possibly." Mega said. "Although it could be done before with just viruses from Planet FM, the Model W, as you humans call it, can easily accomplish it more easily be amplifying the energy of the viruses."
"How so?" Eva asked.
"Most of the time, negative emotions would amplify a wavelength of the human body, making it possible for an EM being to use as a host, influencing their decisions and possibly transforming them. Model W, multiplies these emotions ten-fold, allowing the possession to be made in bulk, and possibly trigger an EM Wave Change with the viruses more easily, resulting in the Jammers that you saw that day." Mega explained.
"This is troubling." Shun said.
"If Model W is back, then it's going to take all of us to stop it." Valerie said, nervous at the casualties this is going to bring. One thing she hates is seeing people hurt. Especially the people she cares about.
"What about these FMians?" Geo asked.
"I can answer that." Mega said, getting their attention again. "The FMians are commonly known for their unique fighting styles. Their biggest weapon is known as Andromeda. This weapon is capable of destroying entire planets." That statement horrified everyone. These FMians had something as dangerous as Model W as well as the Biometal itself?! "Fortunately, it needs a key to operate, which I stole before fleeing to Earth."
"And where is this key?" Hiro asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Sorry, but as you humans say, 'that's for me to know, and for you to never find out.'" Mega said.
"I know Omega-Xis doesn't come off as trustworthy, but I can assure you the threat of the FMians is real." Maria said. "Also, he is our best shot at finding out what happened to the people at PEACE."
That got the Mega Men's attention. This guy knows something about Geo's dad? That means they have to work with him if they want to get answers.
"Then we better get started." Eva said, kicking off the wall she was leaning against.
"One problem." Miles said, bringing up a monitor. It showed Model X and his status. "Model X was damaged in the jolt upon the FMian's arrival. His self-repair program is in effect, but it will take at least a month or so to get him fully operational with no hiccups."
"So does this mean I'm off the roster?" Geo asked.
"Not necessarily." Maria said, drawing confusion from the room. She pressed a button, showing Geo merged with Mega. "When I had arrived at the scene, I had found Geo merged with Omega-Xis." She then turned to Mega. "Because of this, until further notice, I am assigning you to Geo Stelar while Model X is being repaired." Her statement shocked several others.
"Wait, what?!" Valerie asked.
"Mom, have you lost your mind?!" Alex shouted.
"What if he takes Geo over like those viruses did?" Hiro added, concerned.
Maria raised her hand to stop them from talking. "Don't be mistaken, I am doing this so Geo can protect himself. Besides, I doubt Omega-Xis can take control of him. He probably would have the first time." She then turned and glared at Mega, who flinched. "Although I will make one thing clear. If my nephew is hurt because of you, I will make you wish you were absorbed by Model W. Are we clear?"
Mega remained quiet.
"I SAID 'ARE WE CLEAR'?!"
"MA'AM, YES MA'AM!" He replied, scared.
"Good." Maria then turned to the others. "Geo, while you're in that state, if the public asks who you are, just say you are X. You have volunteered to take on a combat system that helps augment speed capabilities. Although the public will end up simply calling you, 'Mega Man.' With the Wave Hole stabilizing your transformation last night, you should be able to operate like you would with Model X from now on."
Geo nodded in response.
"Also, to be on the safe side, I would like you to check in with another Mega Man from time to time. Just in case this transformation has any adverse effects."
"No worries, Mom." Alex said, wrapping his arm around Geo. "I can help look after him."
"This coming from the guy who instigated 'World War Food'?" Eva asked, smirking.
Alex's face grew a bright red at the reminder while the others snickered, smirked and/or giggled. The food fight to end all food fights. It didn't help it was near an international conference. They were lucky that the representatives took it all in good humor or that would have ended in disaster. Maria really tore a new one into her son for causing it. Hence the title. Mega seemed interested in that story, but decided to ask later.
"I can check in from time to time under the guise of a medical check-up." Valerie offered.
"That would help." Maria nodded.
"We can find other ways to interact with Geo off the job so we can keep an eye on this guy." Miles said, the others nodding.
Mega grumbles at being talked about while he's in the room.
"Okay, until further notice, keep your eyes open. We need to find out just what these FMians are up to. Dismissed." Maria said, the others leaving the room to turn in.
Morning had arrived at the Stelar residence. Hope was working on some dishes when she heard a knock at the door. She knew it couldn't be Geo, because he would simply walk right in and announce he was home. It may be one of his co-workers that came to get his stuff for him. That has happened before.
She walked to the door, and opened it to see three familiar faces. Well, familiar to Geo.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Hello Mrs. Stelar. I'm Luna Platz and I'm here to see Geo." She said. She then introduced her two…lackeys for lack of a better term. "These are Bub Bison and Zack Temple."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, but I'm afraid that Geo's not home at the moment." Hope said.
"Huh?" Luna was confused. She thought for sure Geo would be home. It would be a bit early for anyone to come out this early, which is why she did so to cut him off.
"Do you know where he is?" Zack asked for Luna.
"Well, I got a call from his boss, letting me know that he was working overnight after stargazing, and would be spending the night there. He tends to do that from time to time." Hope said.
Okay, that made sense, if Geo was pulling an all-nighter at his job. It would make sense for him to stay there instead of trying to get home to sleep. Although she couldn't help but wonder if he really does work for the Guardians like Zack said. "Oh, well, thank you." Luna said, turning to leave, prompting the boys to follow her.
Hope smiled a bit. It seemed there was someone at school concerned for her son, after all.
"So what do we do, Prez?" Bud asked once they were out of earshot.
"Well, we need to pay a visit to the hospital and see how the principal is doing. We can find Geo later." Luna said.
"It would be faster by train if we hurry. We can use a bus to get to the station." Zack said.
"Excellent." Luna said, but while they made their way to the bus stop, she couldn't help but wonder about Geo. He seemed a bit rude when they first met, but if he was really in a hurry to get to his job, she could understand that. After all, bosses can be demanding. At least, those dramas she watched seemed to give off that impression. Still, she can't help but feel there was more to him than meets the eye.
Ah, she'll worry about it later, the bus was coming.
Geo is walking around downtown. He finally convinced the others to let him go on his own, so he's pretty much playing tour guide to Mega. "So Mega, you say my Dad is alright, but getting home will be difficult."
"Yeah, he has to adjust to his new condition before he can move effectively." Mega said, not wanting to go into detail. "So what is this planet like? It doesn't seem much like what your father told me."
"Well, this planet has several different cultures. We got into EM Waves a while ago, but we used to rely on something called the Internet." Geo explained.
"And when EM Waves became more apparent, that BrotherBand system came in. I remember your father telling me about that."
"Yeah." Geo couldn't help but sigh at that.
The BrotherBand system was one of his Dad's greatest works. But even he admitted that he did not come up with it on his own. He was inspired by the age of NetNavis, specifically Lan Hikari and his NetNavi, who, coincidentally, also went by the name of MegaMan. Those two were said to have a bond like brothers, and it was that same bond that had saved the world on numerous occasions. It is due to this bond that Kelvin dubbed it 'BrotherBand'. Lan Hikari had started the work ages ago, Kelvin was able to finish it for all to use to this day.
But Geo, despite being proud of his Dad, has yet to make a BrotherBand outside of work. A part of him is still afraid about getting close to others, despite the progress he made. The only one that is close to him outside the job is Sonia, and that was only due to the protection detail he was assigned, so he never formed a BrotherBand with her.
"So who's Sonia?" Mega asked. That question made Geo freeze completely. Did he speak his thoughts out loud?
"Just a friend." Geo responded, trying to calm himself down.
"Uh-huh, and this dream journal of yours shows 'moments between friends.'" Mega said sarcastically, looking into a file. Uh-oh. That contained some intimate dreams involving him and Sonia.
What? Mega Man he may be, but he was still a boy. And one going through puberty at that.
"H-Hey, get out of there!" Geo shouted, making people turn to him. He chuckled sheepishly and said, "These rotten viruses won't stay out." That made several nod and go on to their business.
Once eyes were off him, he turned back to his Transer. "You stay out of there. That is off limits and private."
"Whatever, you humans are a strange bunch to me anyway." Hearing some voices, Geo looked up to see three faces that he didn't want to see. He hurriedly hid behind a column just as they were coming up.
"What was that about?" Mega asked.
"Just three classmates who bother me to go to school." Geo said.
"These 'classmates' are your enemies then?"
"Not really." Geo said, not wanting Mega to start something. "They're neither friend or foe. They just annoy me is all."
"And what about this school?"
"Schools are centers of education where people go to so they can learn about the world they live in."
"Hmph. Sounds pretty boring to me. Why do that when you could just go out and see for yourself?"
Geo rolled his eyes. "Not everyone's a Mega Man, Mega."
"So?" Geo decided to leave it be before he got a headache. "Anyway, where to next on our tour?"
Just as Geo was about to answer a crash was heard, getting his attention.
"Remind me, what the principal is doing in the hospital?" Bud asked as they entered the train.
"Apparently, he was practicing something and broke his leg doing it." Luna said.
"What it was, no one knows. I can't find anything on it." Zack said.
The train moved for about six minutes before a crash was heard, shaking the train.
"W-What is that?" Luna asked fearfully.
"A virus?" Zack, also scared, looked around frantically.
"W-w-where is it?" Bud asked, looking up, wondering if the virus was there.
As it turns out, there was a virus up there. Several in fact. And Geo as well as onlookers saw the mess they were making out of the train.
"Oh, shoot." Geo hurriedly called HQ. "This is X. I got a virus situation on the downtown monorail. Requesting backup."
"Backup confirmed, sir. ETA five minutes." Elise said over the line.
"HELP!" a familiar voice shouted. Geo looked to see one of the cars had fallen loose and hanging from the doorway was…
"LUNA! Mega, we got to help her." Geo said.
"Why? I thought she annoyed you." Mega asked.
"That doesn't mean I want her dead!" Geo looked Mega in the eye. "If there's a chance of saving someone, then I'm going to do it. No matter who they are."
The two were silent for a moment before Mega grunted. "You humans are strange beings."
"Not strange. Complicated." Geo responded.
Mega couldn't help but smirk. Heh. Just like you, Kelvin. "Alright, let's hurry."
Geo nodded and ran into an alley. "EM Wave Change! Geo Stelar, On Air!"
In a flash of green light, Mega Man was ready.
He then contacted HQ again. "Better have a medic team with that backup, I have a feeling we're going to need it." With that, he hurried over to the monorail.
"I-I can't hold on! I'm slipping!" Luna shouted, gripping onto the train.
Bud was hanging onto a seat, trying to reach out for her. "Hurry, Prez! Take my hand!"
Zack, in the meantime, was finding a way to eliminate the viruses. "It's no use! There's too many of them."
Just then, the train car lurched again, forcing Luna to let go.
"PREZ!" Zack and Bud shouted.
Luna screamed and looked down. She closed her eyes, hoping that this would be a quick death. She felt a little force, but no pain. Was it so quick she didn't feel anything? She opened her eyes to see Mega Man was holding her. She realized she grabbed onto him too.
"Are you okay?" He asked. She could only nod.
A moment of silence, and then…
"You can let go of me now." He commented, snapping Luna out of it and standing onto the ground. She had a sheepish look on her face as she got off of him.
Just then, the Satella Police arrived. "Satella Police! Everyone get clear!" The familiar voice of Bob Copper shouted.
The train car lurched again, and was about to fall.
"Uh-oh!" Mega Man hurried under the train car just as it started falling.
The people inside and out were screaming.
But Mega Man was able to catch it effortlessly. He carefully set it down, and pulled the door open.
"Is everybody okay?" Mega Man asked. The people inside, Bud and Zack included, we shaken up, but gave a nod. "Good. Now everyone please exit the train calmly and get to the Satella Police, they'll be able to help you from there."
Everyone nodded and filed out. Copper and Luna were running up. Luna to check on Bud and Zack, Copper to get some answers.
"Bud! Zack! Are you two alright?" Luna asked, concerned.
The two could only nod.
"They are understandably shaken up, but I don't think they were seriously hurt." Mega Man said. She felt relieved to hear that.
"And who are you?" Copper asked. Luna also wanted to know her savior.
Mega Man let out a smile. "I'm not surprised you don't recognize me." He then held out his Guardian Badge. "I'm Mega Man X."
Everyone was surprised. "You don't look like X." Copper commented, suspicious. The armor may be blue, but a darker blue than X. The design is also far too different. And since when did hair show from his helmet?
"Well, my regular armor is under repair due to a power surge. This is a prototype suit for speed capabilities. So for simplicity's sake, you can call me 'Mega Man.'" Mega Man said.
Luna then walked right up. "Thank you for saving me and my friends, Mega Man." Luna said, gratefully.
"You're welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some viruses to deal with." He then vanished in a flash of light.
"Hey, wait!" Copper shouted, wanting answers.
Mega Man took notice of several viruses. "Note to self, get better Battle Cards." He muttered. He then loaded a Gatling Battle Card and opened fire on the viruses, deleting several Mettennas.
He turned and jumped just in time to avoid some shots coming from Cannonbases. They were firing relentlessly, leaving Mega Man to only dodge.
"This is getting us nowhere." He gritted, getting grazed by a blast.
"Kid, incoming!" Mega's warning came just in time as Mega Man had jumped back from being sliced by McCleavers. He saw that there were fifteen of them. They kept coming at him, not giving him a chance to load another Card. This had gone on for 3 minutes. However, one of them got him from behind, knocking him to the ground.
"Darn it." He looked up to see ten of the McCleavers jumping into the air. He braced himself for what is definitely going to hurt.
However, it never came.
"IceAura!" a dome of energy surrounded Mega Man, and the McCleavers' blades simply kept bouncing off the dome, unable to hurt him. "Frozen Dragon!" A dragon made of ice had appeared and tore through the CannonBases, stopping any more cannon blasts.
Said Blue Bomber felt a warming sensation as his injuries were healed. He turned to see his savior.
Her hair was covered by an ice blue helmet, decorated with fins on each side. Her blue eyes were visible, though her nose and mouth were concealed by a white rebreather mask. Her formfitting dark suit was under an armored jacket that matched the helmet. She also wore white armored pants. The feet in the ice blue boots were tense, ready to jump at a moment's notice. She was armed with a spear with energy pikes sticking out, giving it the appearance of a trident.
Mega Man knew who this was. "Siren Leviathan. Glad you were able to make it."
"I almost didn't." She said, pulling him up. "Some HotRoaders were keeping me busy. I'm glad you're okay." A siren caught their attention.
They look down to see Guardians setting up a perimeter and clearing the crowds. That brought a relief to Mega Man. Now he knows that no one will get hurt.
"Anyway, these viruses seem to be following a leader." Siren said, turning her attention back. "If we can take it out, the other viruses should retreat. They'd rather avoid fighting the one who took out their boss."
"Okay." He nodded. "Any idea where?"
"Actually, it should be around here." Just then, a shadow casted over them. They looked up, and jumped away just as a large virus landed where they were. It was a GreatAx virus.
"Found it." Mega couldn't help but quip. Siren simply smacked the head. "Ow!"
"Now to take care of this." Mega Man was about to charge, but Siren stopped him.
"No, Mega Man. it's too dangerous. You still need time to adjust to that form before you can fight something that big. I'll fight it head on. You provide support fire."
Mega Man looked at her for a moment, then nodded.
"Good." She turned her attention to the GreatAx. "Now then…" Just then, the rebreather opened up, revealing a manic grin. Mega Man knew what that meant.
Leviathan had come out to play.
You see, when Valerie had first MegaMerged, it was revealed she had a case of Split Personality Disorder. It first manifested when she was little and she survived an awful car accident. The second personality had become a mental shield of sorts, protecting her growing up. They were at odds with each other due to their conflicting personalities, however. While Valerie was kind and gentle, and her other self would be violent and aggressive. But when Model L had chosen her, the two had come to an agreement. Valerie would mainly handle defending and healing while her other self would do the most fighting. There are times that Valerie had done some fighting on her own, but those moments did not happen often.
Their different fighting styles are why they were happy when they each had a codename. "Siren" is often a word that describes a monster that uses its voice to lure people to a false sense of security. Valerie however, had taken it on to resemble the siren of an ambulance, because like the paramedics inside, she wanted to help people. Her other self, however, was glad to have a name to call her own, and she felt that a beast of the sea like "Leviathan" was perfect for her.
"Try to make this interesting." Leviathan said, charging forward.
"Uh, kid?" Mega asked, seeing Leviathan hack away at the GreatAx. And knocking away any unfortunate McCleavers that got too close. "Are all women on your planet like this?"
"That is a question you would have to ask a woman for." Mega Man said. "And if you're smart, you'll refrain from doing so." He then used a Cannon Card to blast the GreatAx from behind.
"I think you just made it angry." Mega commented, noting the lack of damage.
"In that case…" Mega Man pulled out a PlasmaGun card.
"…let's give Leviathan an opening." He took steady aim and waited. When the GreatAx turned his way, he fired, nailing it between the eyes and paralyzing it.
"Leviathan, now!" At Mega Man's words, Leviathan jumped forward, and cleaved the GreatAx in two, letting out a battle cry as she did so.
Seeing how the leader fell, all the remaining viruses had retreated.
A sigh of relief escaped his lips. "Glad that's over with." He said.
"We better check on the wounded." Leviathan…no…Siren said as the rebreather was back.
The two of them went to work, checking on anyone who was hurt in the attack. Fortunately, all of the injuries were minor. There was one kid who sprained his ankle from running, but he'll be alright. Siren resisted to urge the giggle at how red the boy's face turned when she tended to his ankle.
"So, now that everything is taken care of, let's head back to base." Siren said.
Mega Man let out a groan. Paperwork, his least favorite part of the job. Why couldn't he just do what Miles does and burn it?
Oh yeah, the Commander wouldn't get off his back if he did.
"Let's get this over with." He said.
"Sure, then maybe you can tell us how Sonia finds your smile cute."
He froze at those words. Only one other person knew about that. And that's because said person was eavesdropping.
"ELISE!" That was all he shouted before they were warped to HQ.
In the vastness of space, a shadowed being was addressing several others.
"And you are certain Omega-Xis has found a host, Cygnus?" One of the shadows said. It was in the shape of a bull.
"Yes." The shadowed swan called Cygnus said. "He found a host almost immediately after arriving on the planet Earth."
"Earth?" A wolf shadow inquired. "Isn't that where our many relics came from? What did those humans call it?"
"Model W." A crown shadow answered. "I remember an eerie feel to them when they were discovered. The fact that a bunch of them easily match the size of Andromeda gave me the creeps."
"That reminds me." Cygnus said, getting the shadows attention. "The host Omega-Xis acquired had a small object that was made from a material similar to the Model W."
"Interesting." A scale shadow said. "So A: There are compact versions of Model W, or B: There is more to this Model W than we first thought."
"So what do we do, buku?" A crab like shadow said. "Do we launch an invasion force, buku?" With the way it ended sentences with 'buku,' it was obvious it had a verbal tic.
"No." A shadow that bore two masks answered. "The way we are now, it would be too risky to launch a full invasion."
"What do you suppose we do, Gemini?" Another shadow asked. This one was in the shape of a harp.
"We attack in small doses." The twin masks, Gemini answered. "Once we all have found a host, then we can begin a full scale invasion."
"And should one of us retrieve the Andromeda key before then?" The bull asked.
"Then we simply find hosts to increase our powers." Gemini said. "After all…" If it wasn't for the darkness, twin grins would have been seen.
"They called us out. Why not answer?"
After avoiding a majority of the teasing, Geo was finally at his desk, finishing what little paperwork he had left.
"Hey kid, this is boring. Why don't we go out and bust some viruses?" Mega said, bored out of his non-physical skull.
"And get chewed out by the Commander for shirking paperwork? I don't think so." Geo said, not taking his eyes of his papers.
At last, one last paper and he was d-
"By the way, you have a call from that Sonia you mentioned."
His last signature turned into squiggles, scrambling to answer the call. If he didn't pick up, she'd never leave it be.
"Hello?"
"Care to explain?" Sonia asked, her eyebrow quirked up.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I mean how you simply have a new form that doesn't match any Biometal I saw from your friends."
Geo felt himself freeze up. "Well, it's a long story. And one I can't really tell."
"Oh come on, Geo!" Sonia argued. "You let me know about other assignments. Why not this one?"
"Sonia, I really like to tell you, but the Commander gave us strict orders not to give away any info to civilians. Even those close to us. If she found out I told you, she'd have my head."
Sonia then did the one thing Geo was hoping she wouldn't do.
She pouted, and her eyes turned watery.
"Oh no! Not this time!" Geo said, but his resolve was going down fast at the sight before him.
Inside his head, he had a mantra going. I will not cave in. I will not cave in. I will not cave in. I will not-
With a quiver of the lip and a, "Pleeeeeeease, Geo?"
Dammit!
"Okay! Okay! Just stop with the eyes already!" he relented.
Sonia quickly turned back to her perky self.
Geo had his Visualizer on, so he could see Mega in the corner of his eye, chuckling.
Then he heard further chuckles, realizing that he was being eavesdropped on. Again. "Get in here! If I have to explain, so do you."
The door opened, showing Eva and Alex. "Hey, cuz." Alex greeted.
"We just wanted to keep an eye on Omega-Xis." Eva explained.
"Oh mecha seas?" Sonia asked, confused.
"IT'S 'OMEGA-XIS'!" Mega shouted, not too keen on how she fowled the name up. Luckily, Sonia couldn't hear him.
"Well, you see…" And thus Geo explained, with Eva and Alex throwing their two cents in.
After a long explanation, Sonia was shocked. "You mean your Dad really is alive? Geo, that's great!" Sonia was beaming at the good news this must bring to her friend.
"Yeah, but I'm not getting all of the details. Without that, we can't send out a rescue party." He said, glaring at Mega from the side.
"And now we got to deal with these FM-ians AND Model W." Eva said.
That took the smile off Sonia's face as she became worried. "I remember having nightmares from just reading about them from your files. I thought they were completely trashed after the Mega Men of old took them out."
"That's what we thought too." Alex said. "Now it's come to bite us in the a-" Eva slapped a hand over his mouth before he could finish.
"Do you WANT to be grounded by the Commander?" She asked rhetorically. He fell quiet after that. Although he felt his mouth stinging from the slap.
"At any rate, I got to get going, Sonia. It's my turn to do shipment check." Geo said. Mega Men follow a rotation when shipping important equipment to locations.
"Oh, right. Where are you shipping that stuff to anyway?" Sonia asked.
"Uh…I'm not sure." Geo quickly funneled through the papers and found the shipment manifest.
After a quick search he sees that it's set to ship out the morning after tomorrow and heading to- "AMAKEN Labs?!"
"Isn't that where a friend of your Dad's works?" Eva asked.
"Yeah. He's also the same friend that gave me Dad's visualizers." Geo said, referring to his glasses.
"Well, I'll let you get to it. And I want details on the first FM-ian you fight." Sonia said, knowing Geo has to get back to work.
"Sure thing. See you, Sonia." With that, he hung up. A yawn escaped his mouth.
"And that tells me you're ready for bed." Eva said. "I'll take you home, Geo. Alex, mind delivering the paperwork?"
"On it." Alex said, grabbing a stack. Seriously, filling it out in triplicate is one thing, but quintuplet is just plain overkill.
Curse Miles and his pyromaniac ways.
Sonia had finished her conversation with Geo, sitting at a table. She was dressed for bed, in pink pajamas and blue bunny slippers. She looked to the side to see one of her favorite photos. It was one of her and Geo after his assignment ended. The moment that their friendship truly started and the first time she ever saw a genuine smile from him
I'm so happy that Geo's Dad is alive. Despite this, she felt herself frown. Yet, when his Dad is back, what will happen? I mean, Geo and I were healing each other. She clenched her hands. Would he even need me anymore?
She looked out her window, gazing at the stars above her. Mama…
Later that night, Luna, Bud and Zack were walking home after a long day.
"I still can't believe X's new look." Bud said.
"Though I can understand why he'd want to be called Mega Man. We were so use to his other armor that we didn't even recognize him." Zack commented.
"Yeah. Plus with how-" Bud's sentence was cut off with an 'oof' as Luna stopped so suddenly. "Why'd you stop, Prez?" He asked. He followed her line of sight and saw a familiar house. "That Stelar kid, huh?"
"I did some reading, and his father had disappeared along with Space Station PEACE, and he was homeschooled ever since." Zack remarked. "Though I can't find anything in relation to the Guardians, so I don't know if he really works there."
Luna wasn't listening. Her thoughts were on Mega Man and Geo. If it wasn't for me stopping by his house, I may not have met Mega Man. So I do thank you, Geo Stelar. Her face turned determined. But I will get you to come to school! You need friends, and not just ones from work.
A car rolled around the corner and stopped in front of the Stelar residence, gaining the trio's attention. The car opened on the driver's side, and Eva stepped out.
Bud and Zack gained blushes. "Who is that?" Bud asked.
"I don't know. But I want to find out. And not just by looking it up." Zack commented.
Luna glared at the two, even if she does think Eva looked pretty.
When Eva opened the car on the passenger side, the trio was shocked to see their targe- I mean classmate. The trio quickly hid in a bush before they were spotted.
"Geo Stelar. What's he doing with her? Is she his girlfriend?" Bud whispered.
"Better not be. I saw her first!" Zack whispered.
"You're dreaming! I saw her first."
'No… me!"
"No m-"
"Will you two be serious?!" Luna came from behind and knocked their heads together. "This is a chance to find out what Geo is doing since he's skipping school."
The two rubbed their sore heads and looked on with her. Eva knocked on the door. It only took a couple of seconds for Hope to open the door.
"Oh! Hello, Eva." Hope greeted with a smile.
"Hi, Mrs. Stelar. I brought Geo home since you probably wouldn't want him sleeping at work two nights in a row." Eva said.
"I'm right here, you know." Geo muttered.
"We know." That comment got the girls laughing while Geo grumbled.
"Head on up, Geo. You're probably exhausted." Hope told him.
"Best idea I heard all night." Geo yawned as he entered the house. "G'night."
"Good night." The girls told him.
With her son safely home, Hope turned to Eva. "Thanks again for looking after him for me. I feel much better knowing he has friends like you."
"No problem, Mrs. Stelar. He's been like a brother to me since he joined the Guardians." That comment nearly got the guys to gasp, but Luna shushed them.
"Still, I hope he makes more friends soon. He can make great bonds. I just wish some of them were from outside work." Hope remarked.
"Well, I do know that he has one friend that's not in the Guardians." That made the eavesdropping trio perk up. Could he be friends with someone in their class?
"Really? Who?" The mother was also curious.
Eva simply chuckled. "Well, I promised no names, but I can tell you the two are very close. In fact, I'd say she and Geo are best friends."
"'She?'" Hope quoted.
"'She?!'" The trio whispered.
"The two are in denial about it, but earlier today, I heard that she thinks that Geo's smile is cute." Hope couldn't help but squeal at the thought of her son having a girlfriend. The trio were shocked. Geo Stelar has a girl interested in him.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Geo had to stop getting in his pajamas as a chill ran down his spine. I got this strange urge to go to work early tomorrow. Preferably before Mom wakes up.
"And how does he think of her?" Hope asked, wanting to know more. This is one of the best stories she's heard about her son ever!
Eva smirked. "Let's put it this way: he has a bigger shot than he thinks."
Hope giggled at the prospect. "Well, I hope I get the chance to meet her. Sounds like she's been a big influence on him."
"She has been. The two have been in contact constantly." Eva then have a frown. "I just wish the two of them could have close contact since their jobs keep them separated."
Hope had a frown of her own. "That's not good. Maybe the two of them can take time off on the same day."
"Maybe, I'll see if we can arrange something." Eva said. "Maybe I can pull him away from the computer and have him take a day to see her."
"Let me know if you need help. I'll be glad to pitch in." Hope smiled brightly.
"Anyway, I better get going. It's been good talking to you, Mrs. Stelar."
"Likewise, Eva. Give the Commander my regards." The two waved as Eva got back in the car and drove off. Once Hope had shut the door, the trio came out of hiding.
"I can't believe it. That Stelar kid does work for the Guardians." Bud said.
"I wonder what he does exactly." Zack said, curious.
"We'll have a chance to find out." Luna got their attention. "Be up bright and early tomorrow. We're going to tail Stelar and find out what he's been up to."
"Right." The two nodded. With that, the trio made their way home, planning on finding out more about their wayward classmate.
And another chapter is FINALLY finished. I had some trouble with this one, I'll admit. Not just putting it into words, but also time constraints life always throws at me. Which is why I try not to make any promises on a set schedule, cause that just leads to disappointment whenever I would fail. Anyway, review, favorite, follow, you know the deal. See you next time.
