This is super-short and not entirely canon-compliant (at least I don't think so!)

No one in Paris felt safe when akumas attacked.

They stayed huddled in their houses with the doors locked, watching the villain rampage.

They didn't even feel fully safe when they heard the familiar zip of a spotted yo-yo.

No one in Paris felt safe until Chat Noir punned.

Whether it be a "catastrophe" or "right meow" or "pawsitively."

Because puns meant that everything was all right. That the battle wasn't that serious. That Ladybug would purify the akuma soon and everything would go back to normal.

When there were no puns, however, it meant that the battle was very grave. That the citizens of Paris should be very, very afraid. That Chat Noir didn't have the energy left to spare on puns.

That one or more of the heroes of France might not make it out alive.

Chat Noir made puns because it was part of the freedom that came with being a superhero.

He never thought his puns would become reassurance to the people of Paris, reassurance that everything would be okay.
