Prompto was staring at the waves in wonder, the soft fading sunlight washed against the deep blue sea at Galdin Quai. His father job had decided to hold a conference at the tourist city and had invited the family of the speakers to join them there, all expenses paid.

His mom had been hesitant to go but between the puppy eyes Prompto had used on her for over a week everything she returned home (even if her sunshine was supposed to be asleep at 3 in the morning), and the many pamphlets her husband was leaving on the family table, she had finally given in and taken some long awaited vacation days.

Now the small family were at Galdin Quai, determined to enjoy the first real family vacation together, even if one of them was supposed to be there for a conference. Prompto didn't care, he hadn't stopped smiling since his arrival and had taking so many pictures that he had to beg his parents to buy more films after a single day there.

His parents agreed with amusement after getting him to promise to get a few pictures of himself as well. They had noticed his recent change in diet and were hoping that seeing himself in pictures would help stabilize his new found confidence and drive to become thinner. Of course, his mother had been keeping an eye on him to insure he wasn't doing too much too quickly.

After the first month of Prompto's new routine, she had called in a favor with a coworker to start her shift an hour later so she could go pick her son up from school and have a serious talk about what he was doing and to find out why. It had taken her a bit of probing before Prompto had told her about him finding a dog which turned out to belong to the Oracle, how he had received a letter from said oracle and tried to approach the Prince as a result.

It had surprised her and made her feel ashamed at her chronic absence from her son's life. This vacation was a first step towards being more present for her son. By the time they returned to Insomnia, she would have an answer to her request of being put exclusively on day shifts. Her husband had also been told about Prompto's experience and his desire to improve himself. She had made it clear to him that changes would have to be made from both of them in order to be there for their son.

The next few days passed by like a dream for the family, the few hours when Prompto's father had to work were spent with his mother taking picture and just talking honestly with each other. When the last night of their vacation came, Prompto was unable to fall asleep as he wondered when another chance like this would happen. It had been the most time he had spent with his parents since before he started school and he felt like it was a dream.

Knowing that he wouldn't be able to sleep, Prompto quietly got up and got dressed in his jogging clothes. He left to comfort of his shared room and made his way onto the beach, the sand making every step that much harder but the small boy was determined not to slow down. Lost in thoughts and in the steady rhythm of his own steps, he barely noticed the time passing and the increasing distance between himself and the steady lights of the Quay until a sudden shout was heard piercing the night. Startled out of his thoughts, his heart racing and mind frantic with sudden fear blinded his mind. His eyes searched the night'S darkness for the source of the scream for several tense moments before he found its source.

Standing a few hundred meters away from Prompto, a dark figure was fighting for his life against several hulking daemons. Prompto stood staring in shock as steel flashed in the moonlight, creating arcs of blue light fighting between the daemons and himself. Without realizing, Prompto took several stumbling steps backwards as he witness his first battle and his first daemons in his memories.

In front of him, the dark figure seemed to be struggling more and more, limping with every left move and then a daemon managed to get behind. Prompto's mind went blank and before he knew it, the blond haired boy shouted a warning, ''Behind you!''

The human figure twisted, lightning quick, cutting down the daemon at his back before stumbling back to the other threats. Everything stood still for a few moments as half of the daemons took notice of the new prey and bounded towards its small figure. Prompto scrambled backwards as he saw the living nightmares approach him.

He twisted and ran as hard as he could, thoughts filled with nothing but pure terror at the situation. He had to get back to the light filled streets of Galdin Quay and it surroundings before the daemons caught up to him. His mind reeling in far as he realized that it would be impossible for him to make it, he had come out too far and his pursuers were much faster then him.

He knew he was going to die the moment he felt his feet snag on something and sending him sprawling in the sandy ground. Prompto turned to stare behind him in pure terror, one of the daemons was less then 5m from him. It took two gigantic steps before raising a clawed hand above its head and bringing it down towards the defenseless prey on the ground.

Prompto screamed and raised his own hands above his head in futile attempts to stop his own death. The next few seconds seems to pass by slowly as a blue light appeared between Prompto and the daemon and the dark figure that had been fighting the daemon now stood between him and his attacker. The claws striking the already injured man, slashing across his chest.

Despite his best attempts at protecting the child still on the ground, one of the daemon's claws still made its way lightly across his upturned arms, drawing blood. Within seconds a pained filled scream echoed through the night air. Before the stunned eyes of Cor Leonis, the proclaimed Immortal of Insomnia, the daemon so eager to kill both of them now was writhing in pain and backing away from what appeared to be sheer terror from the injured child.

The claws that had been stained with the child's blood was disintegrating before his very eyes. As the crownguard soldier focused his mind to ignore the pain and blood lost to finish off the injured enemy, all of the other daemons were slowly backing away and running off into the night.

Cor Leonis found himself alone, bleeding out with a child whose blood had somehow destroyed a daemon's hand.
