A Shine to Dine to Die For

At a loose end, and feeling restless, Sam wandered into the kitchen.

"Hello, Sam."

Sam was just relieved Dean wasn't present to witness him squawk in alarm and jump two feet straight up in the air.

"Could you summon your brother?" asked Death. "You don't mind me helping myself to a snack while I wait?"

"Er, yes, I mean no... I'll go get him." Sam stuttered, under no illusion the questions were anything but rhetorical.

Sam burst into his brother's room to find Dean relaxing, listening to music. "Death's waiting for you in the kitchen," he gasped.

"What? Why?" spluttered Dean, removing his headphones.

"I don't know!" cried Sam. "Maybe he's taken some weird shine to you and he's here for a play date? To be honest, I was too scared to ask!"

Dean laughed nervously and followed his brother back to the kitchen.

"Ah, Dean. Your bologna's out of date," said Death, putting down a half-eaten sandwich with a moue of distaste. "So, I'd heard about a new place serving 'artisan donut chicken'. I thought you might be interested."

Dean brightened. "Anything 'artisan' sounds kinda douchey, but bring it on!"

"Why can't he ever have normal friends?" muttered Sam.
