Hey? Are you there? Can you hear me?
A-Ah! Ahahaha, sorry, I must have surprised you.
Hold on! I'll fix the space so then you can understand what is going on.
At once, the world around you seem to be glowing a lighter, but just dimly. You were still able to see your surroundings a bit though. You were floating in nothing but torn books and papers scattered all around you. You seem to recognise them, but could not recall what was written in them. Looking down, you notice a figure was staring at you. You could not tell who they were, their figure was hard to make out. However, you could see they were clutching a familiar looking book, close to their heart.
"Hi," they gave a sheepishly laugh, fidgeting a little. "It had been a while. How are you?" You looked confused. Seeing this, they continued, "Ah! I'm sorry! I should explain what is going on, right? After all," he seemed to smile, "it's been so long.
"It's been years – felt like eternity even, since you took interest in our story…no," they tilted his head. "You've always been interested, have you not? You always waited. Like we did."
Their words seem to resonate a strong feeling within you. The figure was swaying within the space, looking over the books and pages scattered about. "Our story was left unfinished because of unforeseen circumstances. However, we never thought we would be so well known by observers like you. Ah, of course I'm talking about you!" They suddenly pipped up. "You're the observer of this story! You're always waited for us!
"True, our story was never concluded, but there are those who tried to complete it," they hummed in content. "We are happy for that, we don't mind if you want to give us an ending, even if it took so long to wait for one." There was a laugh, but it sounded empty. "It's just…it's been so long…"
You knew it had been long. It had been years since you also waited for this story, and these years felt like eternity. The figure clutched their book close to their chest, and you could make out a small smile.
"But…now we might finally be free," he said. "Even if others continue with their own endings or made a complete one in the past, we actually have a proper setting now!" The world around them began to transform. "No more waiting. No more retelling the story over and over. No more hoping for a proper game for this story to end properly," they smiled brightly as the world now took form into a field, with the familiar looking ominous mansion looming over them. Even though you felt uneasy from the sight of it, the figure – who you recognise as a coward, yet deep down was strong at heart, you started to cry.
"Won't you join us?" His friends began to appear. "Someone finally gave us an ending for us. And not only us," Italy smiled as he offered his hand, "but you can also be put to rest. You don't have to wait anymore."
It was another start of the story known as HetaOni. Those who knew the name were mostly familiar with how the story went. Countless times had a lone nation rewound time to save his friends, and it took who-knows-how-long for him to have the best possible outcome today.
Sadly, the story of this game was never finished.
They were left here to have their stories retold over and over, in different ways even. However, what they – the characters in this story, and us – the observers, wished for a proper game. This story could not just be left unfinished.
And now they were given the chance to be finally at rest.
Are you ready? To escape with everyone from this endless game?
