******This chapter had to go under another revamp. I am so sorry for the terrible quality I posted here originally for Chapter 5. I usually write my chapters completely and wait about a week and re-read and edit before posting them and I am truly sorry for my laziness and poor attention to detail****
Thank you to all of you that have stuck with me until now. My life has been a bit of a mess and writing has been on the back burner in another castle. I really do apologize for my infidelity to this work. I love this story and I had this chapter written months ago and just didn't really love it. I wanted to write one thing and it became a bit of a filler back story that sets ups to what I wanted to write a bit better. I have some serious issues with Diamond is unbreakable. Cause and effect is all I want, if somebody dies, I want some type of justice or investigation, not just a 'he's dead, not important enough for any further acknowledgement' I want closure Araki-sensei! Okay so after my apology, complaint and possibly spoilers of my own story comes the disclaimer! Araki Sensei still owns Jo Jo's Bizzare adventure, its just some story elements and I don't agree, so I decided to get my closure in my concept of the truth.
Joseph Joestar was sent to Morioh to assist Jotaro Kujo with the distribution of assets to a Josuke Higashikata and that was all. It was made very clear by the chief officers of the Speedwagon foundation that the last living male member of the Joestar family was to remain in Japan for a time period no longer than a week, but even that proved too difficult for the old coot. The rules established by Suzie Q were simple: 1. Make contact with Josuke Higashikata. 2. Stay away from 'that woman.' And 3. Do not cause trouble for Jotaro. For the first couple of days Joseph seemed to be senile, but on his best behavior, only walking into incoming traffic twice, getting lost eight times and refusing to take his medication only once. Jotaro was actually proud that the old man was following the rules, but after the accident, all the old man's previous efforts seemed to be lost.
Following the accident, Joseph Joestar was breaking all of Suzie Q's rules in reverse. Firstly the old man was causing Jotaro so many problems that the marine biologist swore that he was getting gray hairs of his own. The accident was so graphic, so chaotic and so draining, that Jotaro rather be fighting DIO. The pile of paperwork he had to submit to the Speedwagon foundation seemed like it was never-ending and having to deal with his grandmother's lackeys was too emotionally draining. Secondly, Josuke's infatuated mother had to get into the picture. Anyone with eyes and a libido would see Joseph Joestar in his Stardust Crusader days, would have probably jumped him too, but it wasn't only Tomoko Higashikata's attack that caused both men to strife, it was her complete disregard for security. Jotaro internally sighed when he returned and threatened the hotel staff because he was sure of the mountain full of paperwork that awaited him pending submission to the Speedwagon Foundation. Lastly Joseph Joestar was back to his physique from ten years ago, very handsome, very strong and mentally competent, but back to the mental stability of a beaten and abandoned child. In the best of intentions to stay loyal to his wife over seas and to protect his fragile heart, Joseph Joestar avoided his illegitimate son Josuke like the plague, thus breaking the most important rule he was given.
With the infiltration of a Ms. Tomoko Higashikata, and the confirmation of contact from a very distraught and anxious Suzie Q. the Speedwagon Foundation was forced to take action.
Originally, this fine multifaceted company was founded by the longtime family friend of Jonathan Joestar, Robert E. Speedwagon. Mr. Speedwagon aided Jonathan with his pursuit of Dio Brando during their time in England, but upon Jonathan's death, Robert Speedwagon took it upon himself to financially support his friend's wife and children. Erina Joestar was pregnant with her son George II when Robert Speedwagon established his corporation, at the time, in New York City. Both Erina and Robert had a friendship that would last the rest of their lives, but out of respect to Jonathan it never crossed the line of anything else. George II adored Speedwagon as a father, as did his future orphaned son Joseph. Unofficially Speedwagon had become the head of the Joestar family; never marrying or having children of his own, Speedwagon had the foresight to leave all his assets to the Joestars.
What Robert E. Speedwagon had not counted for was the continual necessity for paranormal warfare with hamon. The baby girl that survived with Erina was given off to Straizo to train, his beloved George II was killed in his prime and Elizabeth Joestar ran of to Italy to train the Zepelli successor in hamon, thus leaving her son Joseph without either parent. Once again Erina and him were back to child raising, and unlike his father, Joseph was a trickster and a genius. A total complete goofball that forgot the gentle chivalry of his father and grandfather before him. Speedwagon had to return from retirement , until a suitable leader, or a mature Joseph took over his now foundation. The later of two options was almost impossible. Standing in front of the tombstone made no sense to either Erina or Speedwagon, Joseph was only 19 too young to be six-feet under. Erina had become estranged from her family and Elizabeth Joestar wanted nothing to do with being the head of a company in a man's world. The tired entrepreneur was going to be forced to entrust his life's work in the hands of his stockholders and hope they would not drive his legacy to the ground, well that is what he thought until the idiot finally showed up to his own funeral with his new wife.
The stresses of finding a true successor were still pressing on Speedwagon for a couple more year,s but one day as he was deciding between his most trusted employees when Suzie Q walked in unannounced and said she was the woman for the job. With a smile on his face, Robert Speedwagon had found his successor in that confident woman. There was no contest between the married Joestars; with Joseph constantly traveling for work, slaying ancient vampires, fighting stand users and now playing private investigator, the foundation heads obediently welcomed the stable-minded woman as their president and leader. As the years passed, the blonde had gained their trust, then their acknowledgment and finally their unconscious devotion to their matriarch.
In the years to come, the foundation head found themselves sheltering any and all information that would discourage or agitate their beloved president. So when the news of Josuke Higashikata's existence arose the company did everything in their power to erase him from their available databases. The company wanted to protect the emotional stability of their true leader from all strife and scandals her irresponsible husband caused internationally. Millions of dollars were spent to keep the whole Higashikata affair under wraps. Many people were relocated to indirectly guard the life of this child, take pictures, befriend the mother and provide the utmost security under the financial ruse of the Japanese Real Estate Expansion project. So when Ms. Higashikata successfully overstepped security and got to Joseph, the lead security guards were on high alert.
While Jotaro made his physical threats to the Morioh Hotel manager, the Speedwagon Foundation presented the man with a nice lawsuit bright and early in the morning. The man seemed distraught and unable to read the intricate document in his hands in his own language. It was nothing out of the ordinary, the document just had a retelling of the events that lead to Ms. Higishikata using her feminine charms and extracting private information on just one of the most prestigious families in the United States and causing emotional harm to an elderly man. If not resolved with replacement of staff and increasing security accordingly, the Speedwagon Foundation would sue on breach of privacy, buyout the hotel and terminate the entire Saito clan. No matter how many times he spent reading the audacious document, the head of the prestigious Morioh Grand Hotel couldn't understand the logic, penalty and accusations, so he became furious.
"Who do you damn Americans think you are? Making up lies because an old man got handled by a stalker? If this is such a problem, call the police, get a restraining order, but do not threaten my family's livelihood! This is preposterous." Ichiro Saito yelled to the two black-suited representatives.
Chuckling lightly one of the representatives on behalf of their matriarch pointed to the name on the lawsuit. Seconds ticked by as the middle-aged man stared at the name his brain seemed to forget. In realization of his mistake, sweat started cascading down Saito's brow as he saw not the what, but the who he was dealing with. Sure Joseph Joestar was a celebrity in his own regard, but Suzie Q was known as the corporation destroyer. Notorious throughout all of Japan for closing several restaurants and children organizations that criminalized or harassed her only grandson from the comfort of her penthouse apartment in New York City. With righteous fear instilled in Ichiro Saito, the next couple of days passed by quickly for the two older Joestar men. The hotel manger placed them in their most lavish hotel suite, reserved only for celebrities and politicians. The upgrade of two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a media room and a covered patio with Jacuzzi was impressive and well received.
One problem discreetly solved and another one just about to start. It was no secret that Joseph Joestar was a big goofball and a child stuck in an old man's body, but ever since the event of days passed, the old man was on edge and acting out of character. Paranoia was too weak of an emotion to justly define Joseph's current mental state, nowhere within the hotel building did he feel safe. Every hallway and dark corner could house the woman who disregarded his privacy and marriage. At first Jotaro rolled his blue eyes at his paranoid grandfather, but once he was notified by the Morioh Hotel surveillance team that a strange woman was spotted on the property near their previous hotel room, Jotaro had no choice then to accept that his grandfather wasn't that crazy yet.
Escorted to the security room, Jotaro was stunned to see the thorough inspection of their previous hotel room and surroundings. The woman did not appear to be Ms. Higashikata, but she was sure acting like it. The same woman was seen talking to the cleaning staff most likely inquiring on the whereabouts of the room's previous guests. She was seen in the gym and around the playground, gathering anything she could, but Jotaro just couldn't tell. So after trying his best to identify the mystery woman, Jotaro summoned Star Platinum to spot any sign of the mystery woman being Josuke's mother, but she was unrecognizable. With the unidentified woman lurking through the property, the Speedwagon Foundation was quickly notified. A few hours later, most of the hotel staff were given paid holidays and replaced with senior security personnel from the espionage division of the foundation.
Breathing comfortably, Jotaro informed the old man of the new changes. While it was nice that his most trusted guards where on watch for that crazy stalker, Joseph just sighed saying that even with this level of security, he still felt uncertain.
A day later Joseph notice his grandson in front of the entrance mirror.
"Oh, Ji ji. Koichi said he got a lead on Kira." Jotaro informed his grandfather as he placed his white jacket on.
Joseph nodded his head in acknowledgment as he continue to shake a rattle at his beloved daughter. Going outside was dangerous and he had already betrayed his wife's trust enough through this summer of 1999 trip.
"Are you really going to stay in here? What am I going to tell Josuke?" An angry Jotaro asked the old man who flinched at the harsh tone.
"Do you not recall what Suzie-baba told you? She said she wanted you to make contact with Josuke. She wants you to be better than Lisa Lisa and try to have any kind of relationship with your son." It was the one thing the old lady wouldn't shut up about. Years of therapy meant you understand to act, not to wallow in self-hatred. Jotaro understood that the old man felt sorrowful for making out with an ex-lover, but Joestars never ran away from family.
"Tell him I have gone senile or something. I need to stay indoors, I have PTSD. I don't care what you tell him, but I can't be seen like this… out there." Joseph said in a mangled mess. If he wanted to bask in the safe captivity of the spacious hotel suite, no one could force him to leave. He was fine in the United States, he was fine with his wife, and if he stayed in the confines of his new imprisonment until Kira be caught, then he would be fine here too.
"Yare yare daze, ji ji. You're acting like a runaway." Jotaro told his grandfather as he adjusted his hat in the mirror.
"Look son, Josuke has already established that he doesn't want anything to do with me. I am doing us both a favor and staying out of his hair." Joseph explained as he motioned at an imaginary pompadour.
"Ji ji he's a teenager. Remember how difficult I was before we started losing bodies and got to DIO?" The deflated Marine Biologist tried to reason with the old man, but he was met with silence.
Jotaro looked at the dejected old man. Joseph Joestar in his head was unrecognizable, there was no way this coward of a man was going to let some silly fling of his older youth destroy his present. Jotaro and the extremely loyal Speedwagon Foundation promised to stay silent about what happened with Tomoko to both Josuke and his grandmother. He also vowed not to inform Josuke about the goof-up with hamon and the more youthful appearance of his progenitor.
Still staring at his grandfather, Jotaro was pleading for him to leave. It had been 9 days since he had been outside and Shizuka was starting to get bored cooped up indoors. Jotaro wanted to ask to at least watch her, but ever since his accident the father-daughter duo were inseparable and just trying to pry his princess away would trigger up a violent reaction. Contemplating the sanity of his beloved grandfather, Jotaro stood at the door uncertain if leaving the old man was wise.
"We will be just fine son, we're not going anywhere. Isn't that right my little love?" Joseph said as he cuddled with the invisible infant.
Once Jotaro left, Joseph sighed in relief. His grandson meant well, and he appreciated it, but staying away from Tomoko had been his true objective. Hermit purple still worked within the confines of the safe hotel room and Jotaro could relay all his finding each new day; his plan was flawless and had the benefit that Shizuka would not be exposed to all the dangerous stand users in the area.
"I'm so sorry Josuke, but you cannot miss what you never had. Is that not what you told me? You are now a man, not a child with abandonment issue like your useless father." Tears trickled down his green eyes as guilt consumed Joseph's old heart. Josuke was raised well and independent, but he wanted to extend a hand to a secret that was kept from him for so many years.
"Papa papa!" Shizuka wailed as her tummy roared for formula.
Wiping away the tears from his wet eyes, the older man chuckled at the antics of the vocal child. He lifted himself of the floor leaving his daughter with a rattle and a few soft toys. Walking to the kitchen, he was thankful that in all the chaos that Tomoko provoked, he had acquired a kitchen so he could properly boil bottles and prepare formula. Microwaves never won his trust and he questioned the radiation that his princess could be consuming.
"I should get the foundation to get me a frilly apron too. I bet it might get a laugh out of the sourpuss grandson I have." Joseph said out loud as he placed the disinfected bottle on the counter-top.
After preparing the formula and placing a funnel in the bottle he started pouring. The portions he remembered from the time he had Holly, the last child he had the chance to spoil. Jotaro was already a toddler when Holly brought him over all those years ago. Jolyne was already weaned off the bottle when his grandson had dropped her off that first time, so he could scuba dive with dolphins in Aruba. Josuke would have been four when he returned to Japan to fetch Jotaro so they could defeat DIO in Egypt. Sighing to himself he wondered if it was truly selfish to want to be Shizuka's father, when no one let him be a proper grandfather.
Contemplating on how life had cheated him from all the children he should have spoiled rotten, he heard the muffled cries of his beloved daughter.
"Papa! Papa!" Shizuka cried her little lungs out as she noticed how her father over poured her precious formula out of the bottle, onto the marble counter-top and then onto the filth that was the floor. Looking in her direction, Joseph could almost see the tears cascading from her small eyes.
"Ehh?" Joseph groaned as he felt his indoor sandals moisten and that's when he realized that his little princess was crying over his stupidity. Reacting as quickly as he could, he placed the warm pot on the stove as he reached to get the nipple and fastened it onto the bottle. Cleaning the sides of the bottle with a paper towel, he laughed at his absent mindedness. 'Maybe Suzie was right, maybe I'm too old for this.' Joseph thought as he also cleaned the counter-top and mopped the wet floor.
"Sorry honey. Papa was busy thinking." Joesph explained as he walked towards the distraught infant. Bending down he saw the little pink onesie walk towards him, finally reaching her destination, strong arms picked her up. Kissing her cheeks, Joseph wiped the shed tears as he proceeded to feed her.
-In Front of Tonio's Restaurant-
"Hey Koichi, what's up?" Jotaro asked the short teen, as he greeted him in front of the unofficial meeting place.
Quietly Koichi noticed how the man clad in white was alone. He had shown up for a bit over a week unaccompanied by the old Joestar patriarch. Josuke had not taken the absence of the old man well; a bit of the light in his blue eyes dimmed, and he was a bit more withdrawn when he finally realized the old man was not coming back. Koichi knew that what Josuke hated more than the old man's absence, was his old nephew's attitude. Silence or lies, but Josuke knew the old man most likely wanted nothing to do with him and he just silently accepted it.
While those old wounds lingered at many of the new meetings, today already started off a bit off. It was sunny, school ended early as a distraught parent ran through the middle and high schools screaming looking for his lost son. The commotion seemed abnormal, so being the voice of reason he was, Koichi decided that it was best to contact Jotaro and conclude if this new occurrence at school had any connection to Kira or the stand users in the area, who seem to be working independent of each other.
"Where's Josuke?" Jotaro asked to break the silent assessment of his person from the little Watson of the group. At the question Koichi gave Jotaro a blank stare. He had informed Josuke and Okuyasu that at 1PM they were all to gather at Tonio's to discuss the disappearance of a male student and if it was somehow related to Kira.
Looking at his wrist watch, Jotaro noted that it was already 1:45PM and still no word from Josuke. Worry started accumulating in the atmosphere and the gears in both their heads started moving to the same conclusion: if one male student mysteriously disappeared… then what would stop for another student (probably Josuke) from going missing as well?
"Let's head back to school. Josuke could be in trouble!" Jotaro exclaimed as he pulled Koichi by the arm and headed towards the high school.
