Avril Residence:

Sally's Room:

Peter thought he could actually get through Sally. He actually believed that she'd be focused and deadset on bringing up her grades. If her grades weren't satisfactory then her position on the Midtown High cheerleading team is in jeopardy. Something Sally is passionate about is on the verge of being completely eliminated from her life or at least temporarily gone. Peter didn't actually know if her being kicked off the team—if she's kicked off the team—is either long term or short term. So Sally had to be passionate and focused on her tutoring with him, right?

Well, no. Peter should've known better. In the back of his mind, Peter thought there was no way Sally would be attentive during their unofficial tutoring. Well, here he is.

For the past ten minutes or so, Peter took notice that Sally wasn't really paying attention to him or taking his words into consideration. She even had the nerve to pull out or smartphone and start texting Liz or something as he was tutoring her! The television was on thankfully a low volume and displayed a reality show that Peter had no interest in. Peter questioned why Sally had turned it on if she was going to be focused on another screen, but he never made his thoughts known. Peter was willing to help Sally despite her obvious disdain for him but if only she was willing to be helped. He wondered where that desperation had gone to after the incident earlier in the alleyway where Sally ended up slapping Peter.

Maybe Sally was really paying attention. Maybe she's an excellent multitasker. Peter didn't know. So, he decided to test his hypothesis of whether or not Sally was really paying attention or not.

"So, to understand sines, cosines, and tangents and opposite and adjacent angles of a triangle you have to add Steve Carell launching to Mars and subtract Jimmy Neutron from the battle of the country of Nevada," Peter explained with a straight face.

The only response Sally gave was a disinterested 'Mhmm, yeah', making Peter frown.

Peter sighed. "You're not listening…"

"Uh, of course, I am, dweeb. You just told me about the trigonme-algebratic something about triangles." Sally never took her eyes off of the screen of her phone.

"That is not what I said," Peter said, crossing his arms frustratedly. Peter was starting to think that this whole tutor session with the almighty Sally Avril is a total waste of his time. In fact, he was debating whether or not he was going to just straight-up leave and do something rather productive like patrolling for crooks.

"Oh, great! Liz is coming over!" Sally blurted.

"Wait, what?"

Sally finally looked up from her phone and scowled at Peter. "I wasn't talking to you, geek."

Peter rolled his eyes. "Sally, you cannot have any more distractions like Liz! In fact, you shouldn't even have distractions in the first place. Like this TV," Peter motioned towards the aforementioned television. "Or that phone!"

Sally only nodded, not considering his words at all.

Peter sighed once again, admitting defeat as he slumped back into his chair, sliding his hand down his face. After a few minutes of contemplation, Peter decided to drop the whole 'tutoring Sally Avril' for now and jot down ideas for his Spider-Man gig. Retrieving a notebook and a pencil from his book bag, Peter went right to work, writing down ideas for his Spider-Man suit with Sally in front of him. Ideas such as a thermal suit for the upcoming fall/winter season and different types of webs came to mind, writing them in his notebook.

The room was silent besides the TV running in the background. Not too soon did the reality show program get interrupted by breaking news and Peter managed to hear it clearly with his enhanced hearing. Dropping what he was doing, he turned his full attention towards the TV which shows coverage of a situation at Oscorp, startling Peter.

"Breaking news, Oscorp's CEO Norman Osborn is being held hostage by a man claiming to be The Vulture…"

That was all the information Peter needed to hear for him to start packing his stuff, saying, "L-Listen Sally, this whole tutoring thing isn't working out. When you're actually ready to learn and raise your grades, come and see me." The manner in which he said it was a bit rushed and he hoped it didn't sound too suspicious.

Just as Peter was about to hit the final staircase step, Sally was out of her room and leaning over the railing. "W-Wait, Parker!"

'Sorry, Sally,' Peter thought. 'But my best friends' dad is in trouble.'

Peter rushed to put on his shoes and the rapid thumps from behind him indicate that Sally is descending down the stairs rapidly. Once Peter was done putting on his shoes, he opened the door and almost bumped into someone.

"Woah! Liz!" Startled, Peter stopped right in his tracks. Liz was just as startled as Peter, her mouth agape and her foot in position to leap away.

The brief distraction was long enough for Sally to catch up. "Parker, j-just wait, okay?"

Becoming fed up with the number of obstacles in the way between him and rescuing Norman, Peter said with finality, "Listen, Sally. You weren't paying attention during the whole session. I'm starting to think that this whole tutor session is a prank to waste my time. As I said, come back when you're ready to start learning and don't waste my time." Peter took in a deep breath. "Now If you'll excuse me, I have to get home. Something's come up."

With that, Peter weaved himself around the still shocked Liz Allan and began a full-on sprint towards his house to retrieve his Spider-Man gear, suit up, and save the day. He could care less if Sally and Liz witnessed his speed. As far as he was concerned, the suspicion is a small price to pay for saving a life, especially Harry's father's life.

Back at the Avril residence, Sally and Liz were amazed at the way Peter spoke to Sally as well as his sudden display of speed. The two cheerleaders stared as Peter sprinted with such speed that they decided to wonder if he had hidden athletic abilities.

Snapping out of her stupor, Liz Allan turned to Sally and asked, "What the heck happened?"

Sally only sighed frustratedly as she muttered some curse words, stomping her way up the stairs with Liz following after closing the door behind her.

New York, Manhattan:

In under ten minutes, Peter was able to make it back home. Quite the contrast to the twenty or so minutes it took to reach Sally's house by train but to be fair Peter was taking a big risk by making physically impossible leaps over buildings. He doubted anyone got a good look at his face based on the speed at which he was going, but he couldn't help but be worried. Peter couldn't stop and fret at that moment. His friend's father was in danger, and in the span that it took to make it back home he could've already failed. The Vulture, whoever he was, might have already killed Norman Osborn. He was determined to not let a father figure be taken away. Not again.

In under five minutes, Peter crept into his room, grabbed his gear, and put on his costume. It truly was an achievement that Peter was already closing in on the Oscorp building in that span of time, for his web-slinging might was cranked up to eleven. He could already see two choppers slowly circling the building: one belonged to the NYPD and the other belonged to the news. The NYPD helo's searchlight's beam was moving frantically as if it were drawing something on the exterior of the Oscorp building.

This was it, Peter thought. This was his first public appearance. This would also most likely be his first supervillain fight.

"Wait...what kind of name is The Vulture?" Peter pondered as he studied the situation. "Eh," he shrugged before firing a webline at the underside of the NYPD helicopter. Then he leaped and drove his momentum forward, swinging lower, and then thrusting forward with all his might. Peter's figure could be seen high in the air for a few seconds before he stuck to Oscorp's upper levels where the Osborn's penthouse was located.

Peter took a deep breath, mentally reassuring himself, before beginning his venture, climbing up the walls of Oscorp. It didn't take long for attention to find its way to him. The news helicopter was already ascending and closing in towards him, most likely to get a better glimpse of his awesomeness.

Once he reached the railing of the Osborn penthouse balcony, Peter could already hear the faint voices of Norman Osborn and another man that he had no doubt it was the so-called Vulture. Peter took position by perching atop the railing. Now he could take in the situation clearly.

Harry and his mother, Emily Osborn were bound, blindfolded, and gagged near the staircase. Peter was thankful that his best friend seemed to be alright, but he was sure this was going to be a traumatizing experience that could be easily brushed aside. To the side, Norman Osborn was also bound but lacked the blindfold and the gag. He seemed to be having a heated argument with the man in front of him.

Speaking of the man, Peter could now see why he was called The Vulture. Well, to be blunt, he had wings. Artificial wings if Peter's analysis was correct, and highly advanced too. However, the most distinct feature, in Peter's opinion, was his baldness and his pointed nose.

Of course, Peter couldn't exactly hear what the two were arguing about considering that the balcony doors were shut. But one thing was clear: the Osborns were in danger and this Vulture guy is bad news.

"Alright, it's my time to shine," Peter said enthusiastically, hopping off the railing. Thankfully the Vulture and Norman didn't seem to notice his appearance, making the element of surprise all the better.

He comically approached the door, his body filled to the brim with anticipation.

"Alright, then. Let's do this. Lights!" Suddenly he was encompassed in a bright light courtesy of the NYPD searchlight, its helicopter hovering beside the news chopper. "Camera!" He pointed knowingly at the news chopper. "Action!"

Slowly, Spider-Man pushed the balcony door open and peeked his head inside, although it was pointless. He is behind a transparent glass window after all.

"-ou stole my idea, Osborn! Techflight is mine! I made Oscorp's Techflight possible! Now, look at what Adrian Toomes is capable of doing!"

Norman scoffed, unfazed. "And you think this whole show will make me apologize to you publicly? If Adrian Toomes didn't accomplish anything as a young man, who will believe he accomplished anything as an old buzzard?" Norman smirked.

What the heck is happening here, Peter wondered. Then Peter took the time to get a full view of the penthouse. He noticed quite a few unmoving bodies that belonged to Oscorp's security laying on the floor. The lack of blood gave Peter the idea that they were knocked out, so that was better than them being dead. Quite the relief.

Then Peter spotted The Vulture begin to raise his wings to do who knows what to Norman. Peter would make his move as Spider-Man.

"Why you—!"

Peter knocked loudly against the wall, head still peeking in. This gained the attention of Norman Osborn and The Vulture.

"Oh, hey, I heard there was a party going down here. Looks pretty killer; mind if I join?" Spider-Man glanced at the unconscious Oscorp security force.

Both Norman and The Vulture stared at the brightly colored individual acting all casual. Bewildered, the Vulture said, "What is this?!"

"Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. I'm Spider-Man!"

Suddenly, Vulture's face was coated in web. He immediately went for his face to get rid of the foreign substance, growling frustratingly.

"Nice to meet you, Vulture!"

Avril Residence:

Sally's Room:

"And he just totally bailed on me, Liz! Like, what the hell! Geeks like Parker shouldn't bail on me like that, Liz!"

Liz nodded absentmindedly. "Uh-huh."

"Like, he doesn't understand how important it is for people like me to check up on my Twitter and Instagram! You know, Liz, Parker's pretty weird, right?"

Liz gave the same response.

"I mean, he's always been weird, y'know? But this year he's acting really weird! Really, really weird! Geeks like Parker aren't supposed to be that weird! Gah! He didn't even tutor me at all, Liz! Liz? Liz, are you listening to me?"

Sally finally noticed that Liz's eyes were glued to her television. Sally groaned. "Liz, I'm telling you something important and you're not even listening! Reality TV can wait!"

"Sally, look," Liz simply said.

"Okay, okay, what happened this time? Did Irene finally—oh…"

Sally became as silent as Liz as reality set in. For once, Sally really wished the news was fake as most of the internet claimed. But it had to be, right? Was it a coincidence?

She read the words on screen multiple times. It wasn't long before Liz read it aloud.

"Oscorp's CEO Norman Osborn being held hostage by a man claiming to be The Vulture."

Sally snorted. "Great, more freaks."

"Sally, don't you get it? Someone we know lives there and he's in danger!"

"Oh, y-yeah. Right." Sally was in fact worried but used her uncaring attitude to cover it up. But now she couldn't deny it. Harry Osborn, a classmate of their's, was in danger. Even if she didn't like him, she knew that he didn't deserve to be put through whatever he's going through right now or even die.

Wait, if this was on...then Parker must've seen it! It's the most plausible explanation to his abrupt departure. But the question on Sally's mind: why? Why did Parker leave? Sure Sally hadn't been doing too good in academics, but that didn't mean she had a brain and common sense. Surely it would be better for the geek to stay and watch the event unfold, hoping for the situation to get resolved. But why didn't he? It's not like he's going off to go help because frankly, Sally was fairly certain he was in no physical condition to do so—well, he lacked the physical characteristics to be of some help, and she denies everything that Parker has shown off today. It's not like he's some sort of secret Avenger. Speaking of which, this whole Osborn situation sounded like a problem that the Avengers can easily deal with. But why aren't they there yet? So many questions that needed answers.

"Wait, Sally!" Liz exclaimed, pointing at a certain part of the screen where the whole situation was being covered live by a news chopper. "Look!"

To the far left, Sally could see what got Liz excited. It was a red and blue garbed figure scaling the Oscorp building. It didn't take too long for the news to notice the anomaly as well, the chopper coming in closer ever so slowly to get a better view.

"Who is that? Another superhero?" Sally asked aloud, curious herself.

"You think he's part of the Avengers? Wait, turn up the volume!"

Sally did as Liz said, grabbing the TV remote laying beside her pillow. Pressing down on a simple key, the broadcast became much more audible.

"-ait! Are you seeing this? Right...over there! Right there! There appears to be someone dressed in a...red and blue costume climbing up the Oscorp building!"

Sally and Liz remained silent and unmoving as they watched.

"Okay, it appears that this costumed individual is going to enter the Osborn penthouse! Wait, zoom in! It appears that there is a spider decal on the back of this person's costume! Could this be the rumored myth of the Spider-Man?"

"Spider-Man?" Liz tested the name. "I think I read something on Twitter about him...wait!" Liz's eyes widened in horror as she noticed something. "Look!" Liz pointed. Sally followed. Her eyes widened as well.

"Oh, god…"

There, to the far right of the main attraction, were two figures that were no doubt Harry Osborn and his mother. The two were tied up, blindfolded, and gagged. Now Sally was seriously worried.

New York, Manhattan:

Osborn Penthouse:

Peter immediately went into action. While Vulture was distracted, Spider-Man went for a flying kick that, sure enough, connected with the Vultures' face, sending him staggering and falling to the ground. Turning around, he faced Norman Osborn and quickly untied him up.

"Okay, Mr. Osborn. You're free, now get you and your family out of here while I—"

Peter's spider-sense flared up and he swiftly dodged an attack from the Vulture as he zoomed towards Spider-Man. Quickly attaching a webline to the back of the Vulture, Spider-Man's last words to Norman Osborn as he hitched a ride on Vulture were, "Go! Get out he—woah!"

With that, Norman rubbed his bruised hands and watched as Spider-Man and the Vulture take their brawl outside. His eyes narrowed for a moment before moving to untie his Wife and then his son.

"YEEEHAW!" Spider-Man shouted as he was enjoying his ride with the Vulture, zooming past buildings at improbable speed.

"Get off, you fool!" Vulture said as he maneuvered himself around buildings and increasing his speed in hopes of making the arachnid fall. That would not turn out to be the case.

"Surfs up!" Spider-Man had stood up and made himself seem like he's riding the Vulture like a surfboard.

"Enough!" In a fit of rage, the Vulture changed his course and slammed his back to a building, making Spider-Man lose his grip.

"Gah! Ouch, dude!"

Now that Spider-Man was off him, he turned and hovered to face the apparent myth who was perched on the side of the building to face the Vulture.

"I had Osborn! I had him! I was going to make him pay for what he did—for what he stole from me!"

Spider-Man held his hands up as if to say pause. "Wait, wait, wait. What's going on? I know Norman Osborn is kind of a weirdo, but I know that he wouldn't do that!"

The Vulture didn't seem to pay attention to what he said. "Osborn has to pay!" With that said, Adrian Toomes prepared his wings at maximum power to return to Oscorp to finish what he started. However, before he could take off, Spider-Man attached two weblines to his back to hold him. Vulture looked back at Spider-Man with intense fury.

"Come on, bird dude! Can we just talk this out? Pretty please?"

"You think you can stop me, Spider-Man?" The Vulture stared at him menacingly.

"Uh, yeah. Ever hear the phrase With great power comes great responsibility?"

"You will let go of me if you wish to remain alive, Spider-Man!"

The eyes of Spider-Man's mask widened comically. "Okay, wow. You don't even listen to me at all. In one ear and out the other, huh?"

"Wha—?!"

Spider-Man released on webline and fired a glob of webbing at Vulture's face, making the senile man yell frustratingly. While the Vulture was busy getting rid of the webbing on his face, Spider-Man took the time to leap and hop on Vulture's back once more. Analyzing the harness that the Vulture seemed to be wearing, he said, "Wow, this is actually pretty cool. Stabilized flight with wings like these? Y'know, how are you still flying if your wings aren't moving?"

With a swift motion, Spider-Man punched into the harness and forcefully removed a very important-looking component. Without the component, the two were descending rapidly as the Vulture's ability to flight was disabled.

"You idiot! You doomed us both!"

Spider-Man snickered a bit. "Dude, you so not have been paying attention."

When they were at a sufficient height, Spider-Man grabbed vulture and began swinging towards the nearest police precinct, firing a glob of webbing at Vulture's face along the way when he began to shout furiously.

After wrapping the Vulture in a webbing cocoon on a streetlamp in front of the police precinct, Spider-Man swung his way towards Oscorp. He had to check on Harry Osborn, and as his best friend, it was his in his best interest to be there for Harry like Harry had been there for him when his Uncle Ben passed. Sure, Harry's dad turned out alright, but he was certain this would be a memory that Harry would have trouble brushing off.

Landing in a disclosed alley and taking off his costume with a sense of urgency and going through a painful process of discarding his clothing, putting on his Spider-Man costume, and then finally putting on his civilian clothing over his costume, Peter Parker emerged stumbling out of the alley. Thankfully nobody batted an eye as the commotion at Oscorp still remained vibrant and eye-catching as ever. Despite his discomfort of wearing essentially two articles of clothing, Peter rushed to the Oscorp building.

The police blockade remained as did the two helicopters circling the tower. Peter easily snuck past law enforcement agents. After countless visits to Harry's, Peter has memorized which elevator and which button to press to reach the penthouse.

After a somewhat tense elevator ride alone, fidgeting under the camera's eye, the doors finally opened, revealing the entrance to the penthouse.

He wasn't surprised when he saw two police officers guarding both sides of the entrance. Running up to them, feigning his out-of-breath state, he said, "M-my friend! He's in—"

One officer came forward, pushing his hand outward. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, kid! This area is off limits. How did you get he—"

Peter's eye immediately spotted a familiar detective coming right out of the scene. His lips formed a thin line, eyebrows creased, blue eyes, and distinct white hair. Peter knew this man.

"Detective Stacy!" Peter called, preparing to run up to him only to be held back by the officer in front of him.

Detective Stacy's eyes brightened but also showed bewilderment. Looking towards the source of the voice, he murmured, "Peter? Peter Parker? Stan, let him be."

The officer holding Peter back turned to look at Stacy for a moment before relaxing his hold, allowing Peter to run up to detective Stacy freely.

Before Peter could get a word out, George Stacy asked, "What are you doing here, Peter?"

Peter took a breath, digging his hands in his pocket and numbly massaged his Spider-Man mask hiding within. He briefly craned his neck to look past George Stacy to see bright flashes going off and other officers doing their job before returning his attention to Gwen's father. "I came to see Harry, sir. I-I saw it on the news. Is he...is he alright?"

George gave a small smile. "Don't worry, Pete. Harry is alright. But now isn't a good time to see—"

"Pete?" Harry Osborn said dumbly as he appeared out of nowhere.

Peter wasted no time in running up to him to assess his condition. "Harry! Man, are you okay? I saw the news and I came as quick as I could!" Peter eyed he faint bruises on his wrists. No doubt those were caused by him being tied up. Aside from a few faint marks on his face, Harry Osborn seemed fine.

Harry looked at Peter with confusion. "I'm...okay? I could've sworn I heard your voice earlier…"

Damn, Peter cursed. He needed some way to mask his voice if he was going to save someone he knew as Spider-Man. Peter rubbed his neck anxiously, laughing awkwardly. "Heh, must've been one of those moments, y'know; when people start hearing things when they're in danger and stuff."

"Yeah, I guess," Harry conceded, unknowingly causing relief to flow through Peter. "But, man, that was crazy!"

"So...you're fine?"

Harry nodded. "Yeah, I mean, besides from being tied up and stuff I'm fine. It's my dad I'm actually worried about though. But you won't believe who showed up? Spider-Man!"

"The vigilante?" Peter feigned surprise to which Harry believed.

"Yeah! I didn't get a good look at him cause I was blindfolded and stuff, but my dad said he was a man in a red and blue costume."

Peter noticed Norman Osborn walking up to them and it seemed that Harry did too. Norman looked fine aside from the cold and stoic expression he always had. It was a wonder how he maintained that after the whole Vulture fiasco.

"Spider-Man? An enigma to be sure," Norman said cryptically as if he had overheard their conversation. The man's cold gaze met Peter's anxious brown eyes. "What brings you here, Peter Parker?" His eyes widened ever so slightly out of surprise.

"Oh, um, hey, , sir. I came to see if you guys are alright." Peter always felt uncomfortable around Norman. He always seemed calculating and cold, but Peter knew he meant well.

"We're fine. However, it was foolish of you to come out here this late no matter the situation, Peter." Norman smiled wryly. "It was...considerate of you to come, but is your aunt aware? Surely she wouldn't be too happy letting you leave this late, especially on a school night no less."

Peter had the decency to appear sheepish, scratching his head and averting his gaze. "Well...she doesn't know I'm here, sir. As far as she knows, she thinks I'm still out tutoring Sally Avril."

"Wait, what?!" Harry exclaimed, eyes bulging.

"Well, I'm glad you guys are okay. I'm just gonna head home now…"

Peter wasn't aware that George Stacy was behind him, so it was fairly justified for him to almost leap up and stick to the ceiling out of surprise. Instead, Peter turned his head to look at the detective, at the same time trying to calm his rapidly beating heart.

"Come on, Pete. I'll drive you home."

Peter shook his head. "N-no, thanks. I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll take the—"

"Nonsense, Peter," George gave a calming smile, "it was nice of you to come all the way out here to make sure Harry's fine, but I wouldn't want you taking the train all alone at this time and I know May wouldn't either."

Peter hated to admit it, but Mr. Stacy was right. He had to go along with this just so that May wouldn't be notified of her nephew taking the train all the way back home all alone so late. He didn't want to freak his aunt out by putting himself in "danger." Despite all his arachnid powers and abilities, Peter could not solve a fretful aunt's concern for his one and only nephew.

"Yeah, okay," Peter conceded.

Peter followed George Stacy out, turning to wave goodbye at Harry. "See ya at school, Harry!"

Harry returned the gesture with a small smile which disappeared as soon as Norman turned on his heel and retreated to the confines of the penthouse.

During the ride home thanks to detective Stacy, Peter could only think of one thing.

'Man, that was a disappointing first supervillain fight. Wait, why didn't the Avengers show up?'

A/N: Yikes, at this rate it seems like I only update once a year. I really hope to change that, but you would not believe the time it takes to do these things. You might have noticed how some of the characters are on track to discovering Peter's secret identity and I'm taking this slow unlike the original so that the end result would be worth it. Again, I'm an amateur at this so criticize me, please.
