It's still late, but i delivered! this writer's block is no joke guys. I hope you enjoy though, i wrote this at different times during work, instead of working.

to the guest who reviewed, Part 2 is still nonexistent, I haven't started on it yet, it'll be a miracle if i get that done honestly.

Also, there's a part in this that totally rips off Divergent and I hate that! But it's such a good scene in the movie that I wanted to recreate it and make it fit, so apologies if it upsets anyone. Half of me taking so long for this chapter was trying to find something original that would work and I kept drawing a blank. I don't own that scene in Divergent or any of the Miss Peregrine characters.

Everything is a Loop

Chapter 11

Learning that Miss Peregrine was safe in the academy was a relief. But Jacob had other things to worry about, he was going to Carinholm tomorrow. He felt guilty about it, why he was the one going and not his friends, they've been there much longer than he has, years longer. It was unfair, but they still made it clear to him that they were alright with him going.

Classes and training just ended for the day. Jacob, Hugh, and anyone else who passed their rank exams had the day off. Rank 7 was having their exam for the next half of the class, Jacob and Hugh decided to watch to cheer on Bronwyn. She was paired with this guy named Tony. And at the blow of Jackson's whistle, Bronwyn refused to fight.

"The fuck is wrong with you!? If you can't tackle your classmate to the mat, how are you going to be able to defend your home, save thousands of peculiars from danger, despair, everything the wights will do to us! Do you like watching innocents die?" Jackson was screaming in her face.

"No, sir" she whimpered on the verge of tears.

Jacob never wanted to punch another human being in the face so much as he wanted to punch Jackson in that moment, and by the look on Hugh's face, he was thinking the same.

"Tackle him to the ground cadet. Do it! Now! For fuck's sake!" he blew the whistle right in her ear.

'Just let him beat you'. Jacob was thinking. He smiled at her, hoping to grant her some strength. Bronwyn and Tony circled each other for a few seconds, before Tony stepped in and raised his arm, ready to punch her in the face. At the last second, by quick reflex, Bronwyn gabbed his arm, twisting and breaking it. The guy fell to the floor screaming in pain.

Bronwyn looked miserable, she bent down to the kid and started apologizing. Jackson blew his whistle again. He walked over to Bronwyn, who looked up to him, tears in her eyes.

"What did I say about using peculiarities?" Bronwyn opened her mouth like she wanted to say something. "You fail." Jackson said walking away. These other kids took Tony to the infirmary. "Next."

Jacob and Hugh grabbed Bronwyn and rushed her out of there. She was crying. She said she wanted to be left alone for the rest of the day. They weren't happy about leaving her, but she needed be alone with her thoughts for a while.

"It's times like this, that she wishes Victor was still around." Hugh said. And Jacob's heart almost shattered to the ground.

"And then he yelled in her face, cussing, blowing the whistle in her ear." Jacob was recalling the events to Emma over dinner.

"I hate it here." She said, stabbing her potatoes.

"How's preparing for your rank exam going?" he asked her.

"Don't know. Don't care."

"Take it a little more seriously."

"Why?"

"You don't want to be stuck in rank 6 forever." Jacob said, taking a bite of his chicken.

She looked up at him. "What makes you think I'll be here forever?"

He smiled at her. "You're good, but this loop has guards everywhere. You can't just walk out whenever you feel like it."

"We'll see." She smiled devilishly.

Jacob looked down at his plate. "I wish you were coming with me tomorrow." Thinking about visiting Carinholm somehow took his appetite away.

"Like I said. I hate it here. And why you of all people?"

"I've been wondering that for about a year now." Jacob said laughing.

Emma chuckled as well. She reached across the table and wiped a tiny bit of her mash potatoes on his nose, laughing even more as he yelped and reached for a napkin.

"Hey, Jacob, right?" this tall yellow haired girl was suddenly standing over them.

"Yeah," Jacob looked up at her.

She extended her hand to him and Emma, "Laura. Welcome to rank 8."

"Oh, thank you." Jacob said.

"We have an initiation for new comers. 7 o'clock in the quad. You have to be there. And bring that bee guy with you." She turned to walk away, but stop and looked at Emma. "You can bring friend's; they just can't participate." And with that she walked away.

Jacob and Emma looked at each other. "That was weird." Jacob said.

"She just called me your friend."

"Wait, you're not." Jacob received more mash potatoes in his face, laughing. "So, you want to go?"

"Love to, but now that I'm thinking about it. I have an exam to prepare for."

Jacob face lit up. "Emma! Good for you. And I can tutor you in some of the classroom stuff if you'd like."

"Hm? You're saying I'm not smart enough?"

"Your math could use some work."

"Well then."

"I love tutoring people. There was the guy in my high school named Ricky. I would keep him from failing and he would keep me from getting beat up." Jacob said.

In response, Emma busted out laughing.

At 7'oclock, Jacob and Hugh met on the quad. Bronwyn decided to come with them just to get out some, take her mind off of things. They were other former rank 7's around them, all looking confused and some a bit terrified as to what the 8's would be making them do.

"Glad to know I'm not the only nervous one." Hugh said. "What do you think they'll do to us?"

"Hopefully not hazing." Jacob said.

"What's hazing?" Bronwyn asked.

"Nothing good."

"New 8's! This way!" Someone shouted, and everyone followed.

They were led to the edge of the academy; Jacob could see the skyscrapers of New York in the distance. Everyone was then led up these rickety metal stairs that wound all the way up this 20-meter building. A girl stopped Bronwyn from going up the stairs. "Sorry new recruits only, you'll have to wait here." Bronwyn stayed at the bottom, waving up at Jacob and Hugh as they climbed the stairs.

The top of the building was full of other teenagers, waiting in line. Jacob felt his stomach drop. There was a ceiling of concrete above them being held up by pillars with a huge open space on the end that kids were forming a line towards. The line getting shorter signaled by a scream. Hugh was standing in front of Jacob, and since he's so tall, he could see what was going on. "They're pushing kids into the night air." He told Jacob.

"It's a zip line." Jacob said.

"What is that?"

"It's for fun." Jacob reassured him, even though his legs were wobbly.

"It doesn't seem like fun."

"Hey! You guys made it!" A girl shouted, throwing her arms around Hugh and Jacob.

"Hey Addy," Jacob said. "What are you doing here?"

"Watching the new recruits piss themselves." Said this guy standing behind her. He was tall with handsome features, and a subtle British accent, what disturbed Jacob though is how he clung to the shadows, almost as if he was glued to them.

"Shut up Aspen." Addy said, playing punching him in the chest. He laughed and stepped back, as he did, Jacob could've sworn he heard a rustling sound coming out from behind the guy.

"Your Aspen?" Jacob asked, "I've Kat mention you."

"Aw yeah, I love Kat, we practically grew up together. Be in the same loop family and all." He said. "Until this thing came along and butted in on our friendship." He added looking at Addy.

"Oh, you love me." Addy teased.

"Sometimes."

"These are my boyfriend's friends." Addy told him.

"It's weird hearing someone refer to Millard as 'boyfriend'". Hugh said.

"They grew up under Miss Wren, Hugh." Jacob said.

"Oh really? Did you visit the menagerie much?" he asked.

"I did." Aspen said. "You've been there?"

"We were there a couple months back or so." Hugh said.

"How's my puppy friend doing?" he asked.

"You mean Addison?" Jacob said.

"Yeah, I call him puppy to tick him off. It's fun."

"Last I saw him, he was doing alright, but I'm not sure where he is now."

Aspen's expression turned worrisome, "I'm sure he's fine, he's a brave dog." So that proved that he wasn't in the academy, which made Jacob feel nervous.

Speaking of nervous, Hugh was almost sweating as the line got shorter and shorter. Or it was because he was hesitating to ask Aspen something. He took the leap and said, "That cliff near the menagerie. If someone were to fall, would they survive?"

Aspen looked concerned, "It's pretty steep, but there is a forest area below, a lot of trees. Why, what happened?"

"When we were there, we had to leave two of friends behind. And when the wights ambushed it only one of them we found. Addison said the other one fell off the cliff side." Jacob explained to him.

Aspen and Addy both looked depressed at hearing that. Hugh, on the other hand, looked as if that was the greatest news his heard in his entire life. "She's an earth peculiar, she can bend plants and such." Hugh told him as he was starting to tear up.

"There is a hidden loop entrance down there somewhere." Aspen continued "Miss Wren used it for quick access to her other loop and the menagerie."

Hugh sniffled, "Thank you for telling me."

"But, a lot of wights were circling it for a long time, they set up a camp nearby and everything."

"Just knowing that there's a slim chance that she could've survived the fall give me hope, thank you." Hugh said to him, smiling. That warming smile faded in seconds however, when Hugh turned around and saw that he was next in line.

Hugh looked like he was going to vomit.

"It'll be ok." Jacob patted his back.

"I don't think I can do this."

"Just think of this as something that you'll get to tell Fiona one day."

With that Hugh swallowed his fear and let the other rank 8 members buckle him into the harness. After counting to three, he plunged into the dark night screaming.

"You're a good friend." Aspen told Jacob. "Which ymbryne family are you from?"

"Miss Peregrine."

Jacob could see his mood shifting, but didn't know why.

"You're up." The 8 called.

"Ok," Jacob said trembling. "Addy you want to go instead?"

"No. Never again thanks." She smiled.

Jacob laid face first into the harness, the other kids strapped him in. "Here's your break, ok?" This guy said pointing to a lever hanging off near Jacob's right. "Ok," Jacob said gripping the harness tightly.

"Ready?"

"No." Jacob shouted into the wind, seeing the nonexistent ground below. The kids laughed and pushed him off anyway.

Before the wind rushing in his ears and the screaming that was coming out of his mouth, he thought he heard someone shout 'wait'. Too late now, Jacob was soaring through the night sky. After awhile the screaming stopped and he came to except his fate. The fear subsided to excitement, he's ziplined with his parents before but it was nothing like this. He was whizzing past tall skyscraper buildings, feeling the night wind course through his veins, he felt… free. He held his arms out as if they were wings and he was flying. Like everything in his life, reality came crashing in. This time in the form of a giant brick wall. Jacob reached and tugged on the break, but nothing happened. He tugged on the break ten times, and still wasn't slowing down. Just when he started panicking, Aspen appeared in the air next to him.

"You're breaks out! I noticed it wasn't connected fully, I tried to stop them from pushing you, but it was too late." He shouted in the wind.

Jacob was more concerned about how this guy was 20 meters in the air with him. And also, about the brick wall and platform that he was supposed to land on approaching. "How are you…?" Jacob shouted at him. Jacob turned around to see these two magnificent wings sticking off of Aspen's shoulder blades. He latched onto the back of Jacob's harness. He started flapping his wings against the momentum, for a few seconds it worked, Jacob slowed down enough for Aspen to undo the harness straps. "Do you trust me?" he asked.

"Do I have a choice?" Jacob responded. Aspen laughed, and with a push of a button had Jacob pulled from the mechanism. Jacob was dangling in the air by his armpits, watching the harness crash into the brick wall into pieces.

Aspen gently set him down onto the ground.

"I thought safety was a priority here." Jacob said causing Aspen to bust out laughing.

"You make a good point." he said.

Jacob stared in disbelief at his wings, mainly because he recognized them. He knew that shade of blue and grey anywhere. "Those wings? You gave me a weird look when I said who my ymbyrne was. You're a…"

"Peregrine. I'm her nephew." Aspen said.

Excuse me for being a douche but I have a tumbr account if anyone wants to follow me. It should be under Angelfire274 or alyssakylene. Ok i'm done being a douche now. If anyone wants to talk about Map of Days HIT ME UP, that book makes me so freaking mad, I just can't. And please leave a review. Thanks guys.
