CH 61 Fairy War

Aether HQ:

Gladion walked through the halls of the base, a stack of papers in his hands. They were all documents regarding Necrozma that had been recovered from Rocket HQ. On his way back to his office he decided to take a break as he put the papers down on a nearby table before taking a set on the sofa with a sigh. He had been hoping his mother would have come back to run things, he was slightly annoyed when he found out she had left it up to him for good. Digging his Rotom-phone out of his pocket he began browsing through it till he heard the doors open.

Gladion looked up not expecting any guests but was surprised to see an unknown face. The boy had messy, curly white hair and had on a rather brightly colored jersey. The newcomer sighed as he looked around till he spotted Gladion. He approached him slowly, feet stomping against the floor.

"Can I help you?" Gladion asked cautiously as the boy seemed a bit irate.

"Yes you can, where is she?"

Gladion narrowed his eyes at the boy," who are you looking for?"

"Gloria, I was told I could find her here."

"You're looking for her, why exactly?" Gladion asked unsure what business the boy had with her.

"I need to have a word with her," he said pulling out a piece of paper," about this." Gladion got up from his seat to look at the paper. It seemed to be some sort of official document from the Pokemon League.

"Wait you're from the Pokemon League?" Gladion asked surprised.

"The name's Bede, I'm one of Galar's gym leaders. That makes me one of her leaders unfortunately."

"Oh that makes sense, sorry I wasn't expecting you or anything."

"I was coming here unannounced anyway, I need to speak with her."

"Well then let's go," Gladion said as Bede followed. He had to admit he was interested to see what Bede wanted.

Meanwhile:

Gloria laid on the grass surrounded by her Pokemon as she colored in some pictures in a Pokemon coloring book she had. Ash ran around with Rowlet who was practicing his flying attacks and Lycanroc who was working on his speed. Everyone else was off doing their own thing leaving the two to their own devices.

"Hey wanna train together?" Ash asked Gloria excitedly.

"No thanks I'm good," she answered absorbed in her coloring book.

"What kind of training do you do anyway?" Ash asked only to be blown off by Gloria who shrugged her shoulders.

"Not telling ya."

"Aww that's no fun, you're a champion so you must have some kind of crazy training regimen."

"Tell ya the truth Ash, Leon is the only champ I fought. Never even fought that air-head before."

"I see you're as lax as ever." Gloria jumped a bit at the new voice. She turned to see Bede looking down on her, though she couldn't tell if he was upset or not.

"Whaddya mean by that Bede?" She asked as her tone rose a bit.

"I expected to see you working your butt off here to properly represent Galar but I guess not," Bede said shaking his head.

"Ya come all this way to challenge me again?" She asked standing up to face him.

"I came to ask you why the Poison specialist wants to use a Fairy team."

"Oh that, ya know it was only a passing thought, never said I was gaun go for it."

Bede glared at her," I'm the Fairy type specialist in Galar, so if you insist on a champion with Fairy types then maybe you should give your title to me."

"Far as I know there is no rule saying a champ can't use the same type as a gym leader in their region."

"Well that may be true but don't think I'm letting you steal my thunder."

"How about a battle then Bede?"

"That's what I was hoping for, I'm expecting you to take this seriously though, so come with your best team. I'll show you why I'm the Fairy specialist," Bede said as he walked towards the outdoor arena Gladion had shown him.

Ash looked at Bede feeling confused," uh who is he exactly?"

"Bede, one of our gym leaders in Galar, glad to see I got him all riled up," Gloria answered with a smirk as she put her sunglasses on.

"Wait you were trying to antagonize him on purpose?" Ash asked even more confused now.

"Yea, need to know if he's right fur what I got in mind, nothing like a little competition to inspire him."

"What is this about really?"

"Can't tell ya, Pokemon League secret," Gloria said as she followed Bede. Ash and Gladion just shrugged as they followed behind her.

The group arrived at the outdoor battle field as Gloria and Bede took their spots across from each other. Ash sat down on the bench as Gladion took his place as the referee.

"Three on three work for you Gloria?" Bede asked pulling out a Pokeball.

"Sounds good to me, but we're missing something." Gloria went into her backpack and pulled out a boombox. Ash and Gladion looked at her confused as she turned it on and music started blasting.

(OST: Galar Gym Leader Battle)

"Now that's more like it," Gloria said taking her spot on the field again grabbing her first Pokeball.

"I'll show you how strong I've gotten," Bede said sending out his Galarian Rapidash.

"Is that a Rapidash?!" Ash exclaimed jumping out of his seat excitedly.

"Yes it is," Bede said with a smirk," sit back and watch the strength of Galar trainers."

"Don't get too cocky now Bede," Gloria said sending out a Toxicroak."

"Toxicroak versus Rapidash begin!" Gladion called out raising his right arm.

"Rapidash Moon Blast!"

"Toxicroak dodge and use Poison Jab!" Toxicroak dodged the large blast of energy before flipping into the air with his arm coated in poison.

"Reflect!" Rapidash erected a large wall that caused Toxicroak's attack to bounce off and send him back to the ground.

"Sludge Bomb!" Toxicroak landed safely on the ground before shooting a ball of sludge at Rapidash.

"Agility!" Rapidash ran past the attack ramping up her speed and darting around the field. Toxicroak tried keeping up with his opponent but Rapidash was a bit too fast to keep track of.

"Sludge Wave!" Toxicroak went for an omni-directional attack as he sent out a wave of poison in all directions. Rapidash sped around trying to dodge the purple wave.

"Rapidash jump and use Dazzling Gleam!" Rapidash neighed before jumping into the air and emitting a bright flash of energy. Toxicroak had to close his eyes as the attack was too bright.

"Quick use Double-Edge!" While Toxicroak was disoriented Rapidash crashed down onto Toxicroak.

"Grab the horn!" Bede was surprised to see Toxicroak stand his ground and grab Rapidash's horn as she landed.

"Sludge Bomb!" Rapidash was trapped by the horn, unable to dodge and taking the full force of the Sludge Bomb The fairy horse waa sent reeling back, kicking up dirt before stopping at the edge of the battlefield.

"Rapidash Psybeam!" A bright wave emanated from Rapidash's horn before blasting towards Toxicroak. Toxicroak jumped to the side dodging it as Rapidash launched a series of Psybeams at him. He kept dodging side to side slowly approaching Rapidash.

"Toxicroak Shadow Claw!" Toxicroak coated his claws in a ghostly energy as he neared Rapidash.

"Psychic!" Rapidash grabbed Toxicroak out of the air with energy before tossing him into the ground repeatedly.

"Can ya keep going," Gloria asked as Toxicroak stood back up albeit very shaky. He nodded much to her relief," Toxic Spikes!" Toxicroak spat out small purple spikes that spread across the battlefield.

Bede groaned internally at that. He had forgotten that was coming as her Drapion was usually the one to set that up. He knew that even if he took out Toxicroak the second he had to switch he'd be in trouble.

"Rapidash Psybeam!"

"Toxicroak dodge and use Swords Dance." Toxicroak spun out of the way of the attack and crossed his arms glowing with energy.

"Not so fast, Rapidash use Double Edge!" Rapidash charged at Toxicroak again.

"Baton Pass!" Toxicroak disappeared in a flash back into his ball and another appeared in a flash of light. The light faded revealing Drapion who was holding Rapidash back with his claws.

"What the…" Bede trailed off as this was not a tactic Gloria had ever used before.

"I picked up this 'ere nifty trick from the Alola champion, pretty cool eh," Gloria said with a smile," Draption use Crunch." Rapidash was unable to escape as Drapion attacked and knocked it out easily thanks to the increase in power.

Bede sighed as Rapidash fell to the ground and recalled her. He knew the poison would take effect as soon as he sent out his next Pokemon but he had a way out. He tossed his next Pokeball as Mawile appeared. Thanks to it being part steel, Mawile was immune to the effects of the Toxic Spikes.

"Mawile huh, makes sense, Drapion use Earthquake!" Drapion shook the ground underneath them as Mawile jumped into the air to avoid the shaking.

"Iron Defense!" Mawile landed back on the ground after the shaking stopped and began to sparkle a silver glow as his defense was ramped up.

"Don't think that'll help ya, Drapion Brutal Swing!" Drapion swung his upper arms at Mawile with as much force as he could. Mawile took the chance to quickly jump onto one of the arms and off off into the air again.

"Focus Blast!"

"Block it with Cross-Poison." Drapion crossed it's arms with purple energy blocking the incoming blast from Mawile.

"Use Play Rough!" Mawile lashed at Drapion who kept up his guard with the Cross-Poison. After repeated attacks Drapion's guard fell giving Bede a chance.

"Stone Edge!" A wave of sharp rocks erupted from below Drapion striking him from underneath.

"Try and knock them back!" Drapion composed himself and began to knock some of the rocks away, though it had already caused a decent amount of damage to him.

"Iron Head!" Mawile flew towards Drapion and struck him in the stomach with a hardened head.

"Now grab it!" This was the exact moment Gloria had been waiting for. Drapion took the attack before grabbing Mawile with his claws.

"Try and get out of there!" Mawile tried to escape but Drapion's grip was too strong. DRapion pulled Mawile up close to his face.

"Now Fire Fang!" Drapion bit down on Mawile with blazing fangs causing the smaller Pokemon to cry out.

"Mawile are you okay?" Bede called out to the Pokemon who still could not escape.

"Keep a hold of it and use Fire Fang again," Drapion repeated his attack causing even more damage than before" so what are ya gaun to do Bede?" Drapion slammed Mawile into the ground causing it to cry out in pain.

"Keep it together Mawile you can do it!" Mawile cried out weakly as Drapion slammed it into the ground repeatedly.

Ash and Gladion watched on the side-lines a bit surprised by the brutality on Gloria's part. Both trainers were a bit concerned for Bede's Mawile at this point but he didn't seem to be too surprised at the tough tactics.

"I'm guessing this is her battle style, take the opponent out as fast as possible with powerful and repeated attacks. She's wearing down his Pokemon and not giving them a moment to rest," Gladion commented as Ash watched on, interested at the amount of power her Pokemon had.

Mawile managed to finally break free of Drapion's grip and standing back up," Iron Defense!"

"Now Earthquake!" Mawile couldn't dodge as he was still powering up as the ground shook underneath again. This time Mawile was hit by the attack flinging him across the field.

"Hyper Beam!" Mawile launched a powerful blast mid-air that engulfed Drapion. Smoke covered the field in its wake. The smoke cleared after a few seconds to reveal Drapion who had only minor damage.

"That's one tough Pokemon," Ash said seeing how little damage Drapion sustained.

"Drapion Brutal Swing!" Drapion swung at the still recharging Mawile knocking him out of the ring and unconscious in the process.

"Mawile is unable to battle," Gladion called out raising his arm," Bede send out your last Pokemon!"

"Good effort Mawile," Bede said returning his Pokemon.

"Aye beautiful job Drapion come on back," Gloria said recalling Drapion as well," so now Bede whaddaya gaun to do?"

"I think we both know the answer," Bede said taking out his final Pokeball," go Hatterene."

"Whoa what's that?" Ash asked excitedly looking at the unknown Pokemon.

"I'll show you," Bede said appreciating the attention.

"Figured she'd be yer last," Gloria said taking out her last Pokeball," Toxtricity let's show 'em what we got!" Toxtricity popped out in his Amped Form strumming away on a guitar made of electricity.

The Toxic Spikes took effect poisoning Hatterene as a wave of purple energy flashed across her. He knew this was going to be a problem but he'd have to deal with it. Bede was now dealing with Gloria's strongest Pokemon, aside from her two legendaries of course. By now he had lost countless times to Toxtricity so he knew what to expect.

"Toxtricity use Venoshock!" Bede smirked, he knew that would be her first move.

"Aromatherapy." Hatterene was enveloped in a bright green light as the poison faded away. The incoming Venoshock still hit but the power was weakened as Hatterene was no longer poisoned.

"Not bad Bede, that was a new one."

"We've battled enough that I've picked up on your strategies, Hatterene Psybeam!"

"Toxtricity Thunderbolt!" The two attacks clashed before cancelling each other out. Hatterene was already on the offensive again.

"Hatterne Moonblast!"

"Toxtricity dodge and use Thunder Punch!" Toxtricity spun out of the way of the blast before dashing in with an electrified fist. Toxtricity appeared in front of Hatterene launching his fist forward.

Bede took his chance," Hatterene stop him with Psychic." Toxtricity's fist was stopped mere inches away from Hatterene. Hatterene tossed Toxtricity aside as he rolled on the ground before stopping his tumble.

"Tch, not bad," Gloria mumbled," Toxtricity Overdrive!" Toxtricity pulled out his electric guitar again strumming it to produce a powerful vibration that knocked Hatterene back.

"Strong as ever I see, Hatterene Calm Mind!"

"Toxtricity, Shift Gear!" Both Pokemon powered up getting ready for the next onslaught of attacks.

"Hatterene Psycho Cut!"

"Toxtricity Sludge Wave." Toxtricity's waves of poison cut through the psychic blades before dissipating.

Toxtricity began dashing towards Hatterene again," now use Wild Charge!" Toxtricity enveloped himself in electricity and sped towards Hatterene.

"Psychic!" Hattrene tried stopping Toxtricity again but he was too fast for her. In a matter of seconds he crashed into her full force sending her flying back. Toxtricity landed back on the ground sustaining some damage from the recoil.

"Gladion," Gloria called out to him," we have plenty of room to go all out 'ere right?"

"Uh yes why?" Gladion asked unsure why she was asking.

"Good, Bede ya ready to do this?"

Bede smiled in response," I was going to even if you weren't ready." The two smiled as their Dynamax Bands glowed. They recalled both Pokemon to their balls.

"This is like what happened back at Rocket HQ," Ash said to Gladion as their Pokeballs grew in size.

"Gigantamax!" They both threw their enlarged Pokeballs as the sky changed color. Hatterene re-appeared now as tall as a skyscraper. Toxtricity re-appeared as well this time on all fours with a massive tail and spikes. Gloria sent out a device that enveloped their Pokemon in a barrier to prevent collateral damage.

"Hatterene Max Starfall!" Giant stars rained down on the field and Toxtricity.

"Stand yer ground," Toxtricity took the attack as mist formed across the field," now Max Ooze!" Toxtricity generated a large waterfall of poison above Hatterene that spilled onto her.

"Fight back with Max Mindstorm!"

"Counter with Max Strike!" The two max attacks clashed creating a large explosion in its wake.

"Hatterene G-Max Smite!"

"Toxtricity G-Max Stun Shock!" The massive blast of electricity hit Hattrene as her attack hit Toxtricity in exchange. Both Pokemon took the attack as another explosion occurred. Both side had to brace themselves as the blast was extra powerful. Dying down the two opened their eyes again as Hatterene laid on the ground unconscious. Toxtricity reverted to his normal state as both he and Gloria struck Leon's famous champion pose.

"Bede is out of usable Pokemon, the winner is Gloria!" Gladion announced with a raised arm.

"Another failed attempt," Bede said recalling Hatterene.

"Nice work Toxtricity," Gloria said happily as she and Toxtricity clapped their hands together.

Ash excitedly ran out onto the battlefield to join them," that was amazing you two!"

"Especially that ending, this Gigantamaxing is quite impressive," Gladion said joining them.

"Glad to hear the two of ya enjoyed it so much," Gloria said recalling Toxtricity," Bede can we speak in private for a minute?"

"Yeah sure if you want to," Bede said following her.

Gloria brought the two of them to a secluded area of the building. The two sat on opposite ends of a bench. The two fell into a strange silence, while they were no longer hostile towards each other they weren't exactly friends, mostly because Bede would never admit to that.

"So what is this about?" He knew Gloria was up to something, she was always coming up with some scheme in that chaotic mind of hers.

"I'm not actually switching to Fairy types, that was just a ruse."

"Ruse for what?"

"I wanted another battle against ya, the World Championships and I wanted to make sure ya would be serious 'bout it."

"You doubt me?"

"Nah, just had to make sure. I'm supposed to choose seven trainers to represent Galar and you're one of 'em."

"A chance to be the best in the world right?"

Gloria nodded," yes just what you'd like."

"Good then I'll have an even bigger stage to finally beat you."

"We'll see 'bout that fairy boy."

"What did you just call me?"

"Ya heard me fairy boy," she answered teasingly.

"Yet you still wonder why you're single," Bede muttered under his breath.

"Ya say something fairy boy?" Gloria said raising her voice.

Bede just shook his head at her," nothing that concerns you." Gloria just pouted at him wanting to know what he had said.

"So who else are you choosing for this?"

Gloria took a minute to think,"Leon, Raihan. Marnie, Melony, Kabu and Nessa."

"Sounds good to me, I'll be looking forward to it," Bede said as he stood up.

"Leaving so soon?"

"Yes my work here is done, as much as I hate to admit it, you're our poison type expert, the top ranked poison user in the world, can't have you casting that aside."

"That's sweet of ya to say Bede," Gloria answered with a smile.

He just sighed rubbing his head," don't get the wrong idea, I still plan on beating you in front of the whole world."

With that Bede walked off leaving Gloria alone. She knew he cared, though he'd never admit it. He was right though, she'd stick with her poison types, after all that's how she got under his skin best. She had to admit it was fun toying with him so.
