-Chapter 11 Start-
Weeks passed quickly, Ruby's operation went well, the plates removed from her arm with little difficulty. She was out of the hospital within the day with the arm fully healing in less than a week.
With the casts off and her return to the school she kicked her own training into high gear, roping her Uncle and Sister into training her with her knives and blasting through the {Beowolf Minor} Dungeon at least once a day for the last two weeks. Between this, her tutoring by the seventh year girls and her training within Signal had caused her skills to skyrocket, levelling her up nine times across the two weeks to level 27.
Yang on the other hand had flourished under the advanced training, levelling herself up to level 32, her skill points being assigned automatically, rather than allowing her to choose, but her strength was now over 50 making her normal punch strong enough to chip concrete.
For now though it was just an average day at school for them, a Tuesday around lunch.
"Hey Yang, can I sit with you guys?" Ruby asked, walking up to the table that housed Yang and her friends. She was carrying a tray of food she'd just collected from the canteen, meat loaf with green beans and mashed potato specifically, balancing it on her left arm.
"Sure thing Sis, we don't mind." Yang declared, happily deciding for everyone, kicking Sett's feet off the stool he was resting them on, getting a grumble. "Just remember to be as loud as possible for Sett."
"You do it and I'll shave Yang's head." Sett shot back, not even opening his eyes.
"What was that?" Yang's head snapped towards the boy who lazily opened his eyes to look at the blonde.
"Well I can't threaten to shave her hair, I doubt she'd care." He replied, twisting slightly to better orientate himself.
"How are your classes going Ruby?" Greg cut in, drowning out any possible come back from Yang, purposely trying to derail the previous conversation as Ruby sat down in the newly freed up seat. "It must be annoying to be behind after missing so much school."
"Eh it's not so bad." Ruby shrugged. "I'm actually ahead because I studied a lot while I was off and Jeanne and the girls gave me some tutoring. It's my extracurriculars that are the best, I'm really enjoying my weapon maintenance classes, Mr Ilmarinen is showing me how to look after my knives and he's promised to show me how to upgrade my pistol." She smiled widely, her speech speeding up from her own excitement. "He doesn't think I'll be able to use it as a permanent weapon but he says it's a good learning tool for making my own weapon."
"Well that's good." Greg nodded, looking down at the notebook he was sketching in. "I'm still having issues even choosing what type of weapon I want to train in. I have it down to a zweihander, a nodachi, a glaive or a war axe but I just can't decide and once I have i'll have to choose what ranged capabilities I want with it." He shook his head, closing the notebook.
"Greg's the most indecisive when it comes to weapons." Blau shrugged, before pulling up a photo of herself holding a double ended battle axe that split into two separate axes. "I on the other hand am finalising my designs for Dorniger Stiel. Sett is using a khopesh with a casting interface."
"That's a fancy way of saying he shoves a dust crystal in the end of it and slashes with that element." Yang cut in, turning the attention back to her. "I'm nearly done with my Ember Celica, obviously the best weapon."
"You've essentially just strapped shotguns to your wrists, it's kind of basic." Sett rained on her parade, opening his eyes slightly. "When you really get going you're stronger on your own than with your weapon."
"They're for manoeuvring and ranged attacks." Yang ground out, turning away.
"Well there are better ways to do it Yang." Blau cut in, grabbing a sheet of paper and a pencil, beginning to sketch. "If you want manoeuvrability you'll also want boots to allow yourself more control and power, and it would probably be better to have a full gauntlet going up to the elbow, letting you send out blasts from the elbows to add to your punches."
"Ooh, how about studding the knuckles with dust and doing elemental punches." Ruby added excitedly, her eyes sparkling as she stood up moving over to Blau and focusing on the sheet. "If you put a reloading system on the legs she could change out the dust for different elements."
"But for that you'd have to build in a system for identifying when it was replacing a crystal and installing one when it's run out. You'd also need a system for choosing which crystals are being placed in which slot." Blau muttered, just loudly enough for the table to hear. "We could do a wrist based reload but it would impair her arms."
"That why I said a leg based reloader would be best." Ruby pushed her head close to Blau as the two quieted their discussion even more.
"Did… did I just get overruled on my own weapon?" Yang shook her head, looking incredulously at Greg who nodded in sympathy.
"Blau tried to do the same to me when I couldn't decide on what I wanted." He sat back, being careful not to jostle the two girls sat to his right. "I say just let them get on with it, you'll either get something really good or you can just fall back on your old gauntlets."
"And we don't want to deal with the nuts whining." Sett added, getting a chuckle from the other boy. "I can't believe we have two now."
"Are you saying my sister's a nut?" Just as she finished a pair of high pitched squeals emitted from the two girls. "Withdrawn."
"And thus the group of four became five." Greg nodded, turning back to his food. "And Blau now has a weapons buddy, hopefully she'll leave me to choose on my own now."
"If they get to design my weapon I'm making sure they design yours." Yang shot back, getting a sigh. "Now, what class is next, I can't remember my schedule."
"We've got double combat with Scathach." Greg informed her getting a groan in response.
"Why, why is she everywhere I go?"
"She is the Headmistress and Professor Qrow is suspended."
"Don't remind me. It's bullshit." Yang immediately chomped angrily on her sandwich, a click sounding as her teeth collided. "Let's just get this over with."
The rest of lunch passed quietly.
Beowolf Minor- Lvl 5
Hp - 10/10
"These things are so pathetic." Yang shook her head, the group of five Beowolves growling in their direction as Ruby span her knives. "We've killed over a thousand of these things, can't we move onto a new dungeon."
"Uncle Qrow doesn't want me to move on until he's happy with my knife skill." Ruby shook her head. "Plus the 100 Lien per day doesn't hurt." Ruby nodded to herself, getting Yang to turn towards her rapidly. "What?"
"100 Lien per day? You've been holding out on me little sister, oh where did I go wrong?" She mock cried out, hand to her forehead.
Any reply was cut off by the howl of the beasts, the creatures charging forwards with murder on the mind. The first Beowolf didn't even get near them, being struck in the head by a red knife, the blade sparking red as the Grimm disintegrated into smoke.
The second and third Grimm's demises happened simultaneously, Yang stepping in, gripping their throats and slamming them together with an almighty crack.
The fourth grimm died mid-charge, the red knife striking its back as the black knife in Ruby's hand glowed purple, the blade barely slowing as it continued to return to Ruby's outstretched left hand.
The fifth paused its charge, attempting to retreat around the corner before it was crushed under Yang's heel, the girl having flipped over the beast in its attempt at turning around, demolishing it's head in an axe kick.
"Since you're the one rolling in money, want to go get a burger after we're done? Your treat." Yang shook her head, muttering under her breath as she looked away before speaking up again. "One room left then we can head off."
"One more room." Ruby nodded in agreement, spinning the knives in her hands. "Let's get to the amphitheatre." Turning she began to walk the familiar corridors of the school, pausing briefly to look at her sister. "Can we get pizza instead?"
"Eh, there's that new Menagerian joint by the cinema, they do both." Yang shrugged, jogging to her sister's left shoulder before slowing to match her pace. "Hey, do you want to see if Dad'll take us through one of the higher level dungeons? If he says yes then Uncle Qrow can't get pissed at us."
Ruby nodded happily in response, depositing her daggers in the sheathes that crossed across her lower back. She was almost skipping at the thought of doing more, getting a large grin from Yang. They walked in companionable silence until they reached the last doorway.
"Ready for the last eleven?" Ruby asked, only getting a snort in response, Yang kicking the door open, causing all ten of the spawned grimm to whip around to face them. Ruby's back glowed briefly as the sheathed knives vanished, the Shetland appearing in her left hand. "Stay together otherwise we'll be separated when the Ursa appears." Ruby reminded Yang before firing a round at one of the throwers on the balcony, the creatures arm flying off as it rocketed back becoming mist.
The mechanical whir of Yang's gauntlets filled the air, the barrels clicking as they locked into place. Punching forward rapidly she sent out six shots, the first missed completely, thundering into the roof and dispersing on the metal alloy. The second shot struck one of the chairs, causing the plastic to splinter. Shrapnel spun out peppering two of the four throwers damaging them by 2 points each.
The third and fourth shots were sort of on target, striking the guard rails in front of the throwers, the metal deforming with a pwang sound.
The fifth shot landed in target, completely destroying the head of the thrower, its body flopping to the ground as it disintegrated.
The final shot flew through the area the Grimm had just occupied, hitting another chair, sending a wave of shrapnel out killing one of the weakened grimm.
"Dammit, I really need to improve my aim." Yang muttered, watching as Ruby shot one of the two remaining throwers, killing it. "Get the last one, I'll take the brutes." She said aloud, moving to intercept the two hulking Beowolf Minors that were almost upon them.
Kicking hard off the ground she tackled the closest brute, sending it rolling backwards into the other one, the two collapsing in a heap with Yang crouching on the first ones chest. "Goodbye." She smirked before punching the downed brute in the head, her gauntlet activating as her fist stopped, jerking her hand back to finish the two hit combo.
She was thrown off after that, the combination of her ranged ammo being loaded and the corpse of the first brute being thrown with her on it. She rolled as she landed, transferring into a skid across the smooth floor finally stopping twenty foot away from the brute. Before she could entirely recover she was having to dive towards Ruby to avoid the dive of two normal minors.
The crack of a pistol filled the air as she landed, coming to a stop next to her sister. This time she let out a quick punch as she came up, a red ball of kinetic energy flying towards a charging minor, causing the top of its body to shatter. "I'll take the minors." Ruby offered behind her, the soft shing of her changing weapons filling the air.
"No, I can do it." Yang cut her off, standing up straight. "This isn't even a challenge." She ran forward, pausing before the two remaining minors and using her left hand to fire towards the charging brute, riding the recoil to cover the remaining distance. One minor fell immediately, slamming into the ground as her fist slammed into its throat.
The other minors claw skittered off her aura, the attack barely making her stumble before her left foot twisted, stabilising her and allowing her left hand to thunder into its snout in an explosive counter.
A muted gurgle and a loud thump sound came from behind her, the last brute falling to the ground with a red knife through its neck. "I told you I'd handle it." She griped as the red knife glowed purple and flew back to her sister's hand.
[BOSS INCOMING]
Ruby span the knife in her hand, turning to look at her sister. "I'm allowed to kill things in my own dungeon Yang." The shimmer of the arena went ignored as it locked them in the two girls staring each other down as the bubbling spawning ooze appeared on the opposite side of the arena.
"But I called it Sis, that means you have to stay out of it." The blonde pouted at the other girl, turning towards the now spawned Ursa. "I get the Ursa."
"What? No, I wanna fight the boss." Ruby whined, immediately turning on her guilt skill as she looked in her sister's eyes.
[Skill prevented by {Gamer's Mind (False)}]
"Really Sis?" The brawler raised her eyebrow as the other girl flushed pink, gulping slightly. "I guess I won't be practicing that strawberry shortcake cookie recipe when we get home."
"But, but." Her eyes were beginning to water as Yang turned away from her. "You can fight the Ursa, I won't interfere." Ruby quickly blurted out, her eyes shifting to horror as Yang pointedly looked away from her.
"Nope." The blonde chirped as the began to take steps towards her. "You tried to use your semblance to manipulate me, if you do the crime you must do the time. No cookies for you."
Ruby jerked back before letting loose a wail turning her head towards the ceiling, the mournful keening reverberated through the rafters before finally the Ursa sprung into action.
Charging forwards it was met by the blond brawler who threw a devastating right hook into its jaw, getting it to lift from the ground, before she followed it up with a left round house kick that collided with the side of its knee, the creature buckling to the floor, sliding a few feet on its side.
It was immediately set upon from its prone position, Yang leaping into the air, allowing herself to flip over before delivering a heel drop towards its head, concrete cracking as the beast moved its head out of the way.
Ursa Minor - Lvl 15
340/500 Hp
The beast righted itself as Yang moved back into her stance, her feet sliding slightly further apart than normal as she prepared for the faux-beard's charge.
It came quickly, the Ursa charging forward with its loudest roar yet, striking straight down at Yang with a crushing vertical blow. Her arms moved upwards, crossing just above her head to receive the blow, her knees bending slightly to absorb the force.
Before the Ursa could react again Yang acted, releasing the block to grab onto the limb, her eyes turning red and her hair glowing gold, as she flipped the beast over her, slamming it into the floor, causing it to crack like a spiders web.

Immediately she lifted it again flipping it into the ground once more the creature seeming to shatter as it struck the ground the final time.
"And that's that." She sighed happily as her eyes and hair faded back to normal." She nodded, turning around to see Ruby deactivating a few pop ups. "Now you owe me a burger." She grinned towards the girl who only sighed before nodding.
This One fears thee will have to wait before seeking sustenance.
"What!?" Both Ruby and Yang's eyes immediately widened as a new pop up appeared in front of them, their shrieks filling the room.
Tis unfortunate that This One will have to interfere so early into the game, but certain pieces are, as thou would say, dragging their feet. There is much to do fore the morrow so This One shall keep things brief.
You and your world are merely shattered remnants of a far greater time long since passed, a time long forgotten.
Tis time more remembered, for there are lessons thou need learn for your chosen duties.
"D-duties?" Ruby forced out, turning to glance at Yang who was staring dumbfounded at the text box.
Yes, This One has already told you that purifying Darkness is your goal. Tis the task This One set upon you all those months ago when the rest of your kind was destroyed.
Thou is the last able to perform this most important of duties, as such This One decided that a more direct approach was necessary.
The Darkness is This One's oldest mistake, one that This One is forbidden from correcting One's self. Thou shalt act in This One's place, correcting what This One cannot.
There is much thee must learn and not a lot of time to do so, the Witch will send her minions for you soon enough, to finish destroying your kind. This must not come to pass.
This One cannot interfere much further, tis by your own hand and efforts that power must be accumulated. But this one can do one last thing in aid.
[Entering Scenario]
Trust in one's own judgement Ruby Rose, you may be joined on this path by others but it is ultimately thou's path to walk.
The text boxes paused, as if the being was in deep thought. The world around the girls shifted and warped from the clinical amphitheatre to a musty old mine shaft, the wooden struts mottled with mildew and fungi. A single brazier sat on the wall, it's fire acting as their only light source.
As thou teachers hast undoubtedly told thee, those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This One hopes with this that thee will not repeat their mistakes.
Correct This One's folly Ruby Rose.
Persevere.
With that the text boxes ceased, blinking out of existence and leaving the two standing alone in the dimly lit tunnel.
"What the fuck?" Yang whispered to herself as she stared at the area the text had inhabited. "What the hell?" This time she was heard by her sister, who was staring just as dumbfounded at air.
"W-what just happened?" Ruby was waving her hand in front of her, just moving it through the air.
"I think…" Yang paused taking a deep breath and looking around them. "I think you've gained the attention of something and I'm not sure that's a good thing." A sharp wind came down the tunnel, carrying a foul stench to their noses, the stench of death and decay. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to make out the shapes shambling through the darkness towards them. "But I think we have bigger worries right now." She yelped, jumping backwards as she recognised what was coming.
Pulling back her fist she finally noticed the new lightness, her bare fist catching her off guard. "Where's Ember Celica?"
"Yang I can't pull out my gun." Ruby almost shouted at the same time looking fearfully towards the dark shapes, before brandishing her knives. "But I've still got the talons."
"Well get them ready, we're gonna need them." Yang's aura flashed across her body as she prepared for the fight ahead, just as the figures came into the light.

This… this was not right.
-Chapter 11 Finish-
An - Well that chapter didn't go as planned.
I know I did all the set up for Yang's camping trip but I just couldn't write it. I just seemed to have a block on what I should do. After nearly four months of trying to write an arc that just wasn't coming I had to give up and do something else.
I hope I don't disappoint with the new direction.
Now onto other things.
Good news, I've finally been able to get a new job.
Bad news, it doesn't leave me much time to do anything but work and sleep.
Good news, I'm in a much better place mentally and my creativity is seeing an uptick in quantity.
Bad news, I barely have the time to actually write it atm.
Good news, I actually have a plan going forward rather than winging it like I usually do.
I can't promise quick chapters but I think they'll be better.
Thank you for all the support you guys have given me, it doesn't seem like much but just getting an email for a person following my work has helped me out of a few dark spots in my life.
Now if you'll excuse me it's 6am, I haven't slept all night and I have work in less than 2 hours.
See you in the next chapter.
