Ruby woke up with hair in her face. Yang's hair to be specific. The yellow locks were beautiful to Ruby, almost like a shining sun. As she looked down, Ruby smirked slightly at the face her sister was making.

Mouth open, snoring quietly, Yang wrapped her arms even tighter around Ruby. It was times like this when Ruby wondered who the baby sister was.

She looked around and noticed that it was still dark out. At least she got some sleep, which was better than most nights. Her enhanced vision could make out students lying on the floor or propped up against the ballroom walls. Ruby had to admit, there were some interesting looking people applying this year.

'What. The. Hell.' Her face deadpanned as Ruby glanced at a blonde boy wearing a blue onesie. It looked absolutely ridiculous and she couldn't stop the amusement her mind conjured. To be fair, it looked incredibly cosy and warm.

'Maybe I should get one of those,' Ruby thought, 'Not in that horrible colour though.' Her head tilted cutely to the side. 'Red maybe.'

The girl slowly slipped out of the older girl's grasp and made her way to the door. Quietly, Ruby exited the room and began exploring the school.

A cafeteria, she noted. Big enough to fit hundreds of students, it surely fed all of the nutrients growing Huntsmen and Huntresses need, not that she had any need of food in this body.

With her interest in the grounds waning, she corrected her course. What she really wanted to find was the library. Ruby wanted to see if what Ozpin said was true.

The hallways were empty as she skirted her way across the tiled floor.

'Aha.' The bookworm had found her books.

The library stood in front of her and in it laid thousands of books just waiting to be read.

Ruby looked out the window. "I guess I have a few hours to kill before sunrise," she whispered before diving into the sea of untapped knowledge.

Yang woke up with a yawn. Stretching her arms out, she noticed that Ruby wasn't next to her.

"I know she was here when I went to sleep," the girl muttered, "I wonder where she went off to."

It wasn't unusual for Yang to comfort Ruby, especially when she would have a breakdown like she did last night. Just as well, it wasn't unusual for Ruby to wake up before Yang and be missing by the time the older sister woke up.

It still tore at the older girl's heartstrings that her younger sister was so broken. Most people would assume that didn't Yang have any semblance of intelligence, but they would be wrong. She could be perceptive when she wanted to, it's just that she found more fun in running in and facing problems head on.

Ruby was different though.

After Summer's death, Yang had to take a mothership role and raise Ruby in a time of crisis. It was hard for the blonde but she would struggle ten times over if it only meant Ruby was happy.

Seeing her baby sister smile was the most precious thing in the world to her.

But after the incident, Ruby smiling became evermore infrequent. Yang hated that man, the one who did this to her baby sister. If Ruby hadn't already killed him, she would've done it herself.

Her fists clenched so hard just thinking about it.

She sighed.

'I should probably get ready and find Ruby.' Her thoughts lingered on her sister before she bumped into a girl with blake hair.

"Ow!" Yang exclaimed, looking up to see who she collided with.

"Oh, sorry!" she said, "I was lost in thought. I didn't mean to bump into you!"

Amber eyes looked up at her curiously. Her bow twitched.

"It's fine. I was just making my way to the cafeteria," the girl stated, "I guess I didn't see you either."

"Well," Yang began, "my name is Yang! Badass brawler, at your service." She did a small bow and smirked at the other girl.

"Hmph," she smirked, "I'm Blake."

"Hey! You said you were going to the cafeteria, right?"

"Yes?"

"Let's go together! I was gonna get some grub anyways." Yang offered, "Why not have some company?"

Blake thought about it. She knew sooner or later she was going to have to interact with other people, so she might as well accept.

"Sure, but just so you know," Blake accepted, "If you take my tuna, you're dead."

Yang grinned and happily walked alongside her new friend.

Ruby glanced up from her book only to see that the sun had began to rise. She hummed and closed the book before getting up and adjusting her skirt.

She frowned. Sitting down for so long on the floor had given her skirt a few wrinkles. That was gonna have to get fixed immediately. She couldn't go around looking unfashionable, could she?

As Ruby was walking out of the library, she walked straight into someone she least expected.

White skirt, check. White coat, check. White hair, check. Yep, this was the girl whose luggage she tripped over yesterday.

"You." Weiss's eyes narrowed into slits. "Of all the people to run into…"

"Hey, Ice Queen." Ruby responded. After last night, she wasn't really in the mood to argue.

"You could at least apologise for being so rude yesterday!"

Hmph. She was rude? Whatever. Not. In. The. Mood.

"Alright, sorry," Ruby spoke, her soft voice almost like auditory silk.

Weiss's eyes widened, "Just like that? I expected more resistance from such an uncouth scoundrel."

Ruby rolled her eyes.

"Whatever, Ice Queen. I can admit my mistakes."

For the second time, Weiss's eyes widened. "That's surprisingly mature for someone your age."

Ruby's eyebrow twitched.

"I'm fifteen…"

The girl in white's eyebrows raised, "But you don't look a day over thirteen!"

'That's what I get for using this body…' Ruby thought.

"Hey! I'll grow taller any day now. Just 'cause I'm short doesn't mean I don't know how to fight," she responded.

For a second there, she wished she used her real body just so she wouldn't feel so self-conscious about her height.

In any case, she should probably start heading to the cafeteria. No doubt Yang was already there stuffing her face. Ruby sighed, first thing Yang thinks of when she wakes up is where the food is at.

"C'mon, Ice Queen," Ruby said, "I'm goin' to the cafeteria, you wanna come with?"

Weiss hummed. "I guess I can bother to grace you with my presence."

Ruby rolled her eyes and snorted. "Just come on already."

The two walked out the library in search of the cafeteria, passing by students who looked to be doing the same as them.

Yang and Blake were having a conversation at one of the tables in the cafeteria. Well, Yang was having a conversation, Blake wasn't the most social of individuals.

In her hands, the girl with the black bow held a delicious tuna sandwich that was currently being consumed.

Yang had an assortment of meat on her plate, mainly bacon, and she sighed in content. As she was eating, she noticed something red out of the corner of her eye.

"Ruby!" she waved, "Over here!"

The girl in mention glanced over and made her way to the table of two. It was then that Yang saw who was next to her.

Ruby was walking with someone. Voluntarily.

At least it looked voluntary.

"Hey, Yang." Ruby said, "Ready for initiation?"

Yang grinned, "Hell yeah!" Her fist pumped the air before she looked over at the other girl. "Hi there, I'm Yang! Ruby's older sister!"

Weiss merely curtsied, "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company."

At that, Blake looked up from her tuna sandwich with narrowed eyes. They softened out when she glanced at Ruby, the girl looking younger than her actual age, before she spoke, "I'm Blake."

"Hey Weiss," Yang began, "Ruby didn't… blackmail you or anything, right?"

Ruby became indignant, her mouth agape. "Wh-what?! I didn't blackmail anybody!"

"Then... " Yang thought intensely, "I-it couldn't be…"

"What?" Ruby asked annoyed.

"My baby sister is growing up!" Yang barreled forwards, trapping the younger sister in a crushing hug.

"Ugh, Yang! Get off of me!"

Weiss and Blake just looked at the scene as if things couldn't get any weirder.

"Sooo…" Weiss said, "I think initiation is starting soon. I better get ready."

Blake nodded, "Yeah, me too."

While Ruby and Yang continued to fight, the two slipped off to the locker room.

"Yaaang! We gotta get ready now!"

Yang let go off the younger girl and crossed her arms. "My baby sister… so cold," she crouched down and began to shake.

"Ugh, you're such an idiot." Ruby said before walking off to get ready for the day to come.

Inside her mind, Yang couldn't help but be grateful that Ruby still showed a bit of innocence. After the incident, she feared she might never see it again, but it seems like Ruby will always be Ruby and for that, she was thankful.

With that, Yang picked herself off the ground and started walking to the locker room.

Yes, Yang would keep Ruby happy, even at the cost of her own pride.

Every student hoping to make it into Beacon lined up on launch pads. Ruby could tell that she was stepping on a launch pad as soon as she saw it because she'd tinkered a few of her own.

"For years you have trained to become warriors…" Ozpin spoke.

Ruby was ready. Her folded scythe on her back, there was no way she would lose. And if she needs more firepower, well, she had backup.

"That being said," Ozpin cut her thoughts off, "the first person that you make eye contact with will be your partner for the next four years."

"WHAT!" Ruby yelled. Yang looked to her, but Ozpin just carried on. She knew it. She couldn't do this. There was no way that she could work with someone for four days, much less four years. How would she be able to cope with other people staring at her with their judging eyes, curiously prying into her secrets.

Before she could continue her thoughts, Ruby found herself thrust into the air from the launch pad she'd been standing on.

'I need to land but I can't show off my puppetry just yet!' she thought vigorously.

Her scythe was unfurled and shots were sent in an effort to slow her down. The recoil proved to be helpful as her speed decreased enough for her to use her scythe on a tree, swirling all the way to the bottom.

She landed with a thud.

"I need to find Yang." she whispered. Ruby needed her sister to be there for her. To be her partner.

As she ran, she thought about how she would find her sister. Finding the blonde wasn't the issue, it was securing her as her partner before anyone else that posed a problem.

'Tch, why do I care so much!' Ruby thought, 'I'm here for information, that's it!'

In her hurry, she'd neglected to watch where she was going and for the second time that day, Ruby had ran into Weiss Schnee.

"Ah! You dolt!" Weiss exclaimed. Their eyes met. Silver met blue and thus the two would become partners.

"Ah, not again…" Ruby sighed.

Weiss's look was priceless, "What's that supposed to mean!"

"What? Am I supposed to look forward to slamming into you?"

"Well if you actually looked forward then maybe you wouldn't be running into me!"

The girl in red merely rolled her eyes, "Come on, Ice Queen. We've got a relic to find."

"Hmph, whatever. How did you hit me so hard anyway? You felt like a brick wall," the girl in white asked.

"I uh, got thick skin." Ruby answered.

"Well, you certainly hit hard for a ten year old." Weiss responded, absentmindedly checking her nails.

Ruby's eyes twitched heavily, "I'm… Fifteen," she growled.

Weiss glanced at her with lidded eyes, "Bit small for fifteen."

'Don't kill her. Don't kill her.' Ruby repeated in her head, hands ready to strangle Weiss with her strings. 'I bet I'd look taller if I wasn't in this body right now.'

"Whatever, Weiss," she said, "Hey! I think I know a shortcut to the relic!" Ruby grinned.

The other girl merely raised her eyebrow curiously.

"I hate you, Ruby!" Weiss screamed to her.

"Ah, everything's fine!" she replied.

"Everything is not fine, you dolt!" The wind whipping, they could barely hear one another.

The two huntresses-to-be were flying atop the claws of Nevermore. The giant creature of Grimm looked like a raven were it not for its size and bone-like mask resting upon its face.

"Did you say jump?" she asked, hoisting an arm around the heiress.

"What, no!" And with that, Ruby held tightly onto Weiss's arm and pulled themselves both off the creature.

The scream tore from the heiress' mouth as the fell swiftly to the ground.

"Ruby!" she yelled, "If I die, you better hope you don't survive or I'll haunt you forever!"

"Weiss-"

"And when you die, I'll haunt your entire family for generations until I finally feel enough boredom and move on!

"Weiss, we're on the ground."

Weiss looked around and noticed that she was, in fact, on solid ground, and was, in fact, not going to die. Ruby had used her nearly invisible aura strings attached to the Nevermore to slow them down until they'd reached the grass below.

"Oh, thank god!" The usually prim and proper princess hugged the ground praising it for its existence.

"And you!" Quick as lightning, Weiss jumped up and pointed a finger in Ruby's face. "Don't you ever do something like that again!"

The redhead grinned and slapped the offending finger away before throwing an arm around Weiss's neck.

"Not bad for a supposed ten year old, huh? Hey Weiss, how'd you like the shortcut?"

The Ice Queen's eyes narrowed furiously, "Oh, you are such a brat, aren't you?"

Before the argument was able to continue, a busty blonde sister scooped up that small redhead into her loving arms.

"Ruby!"

"Yang-" Ruby was being crushed by the two battering rams her sister called arms.

"Nora!"

An orange haired individual and her partner ran up to them to introduce themselves.

They didn't notice as a blonde boy crashed into the tree beside them.

Ren huffed, "Nora," he said, "don't ever do that again." The boy was ignored completely in favour of a relic.

"Oooh! I'm queen of the castle~!" sang Nora jovially.

"Nora!"

She giggled, "Coming, Ren!"

The five girls and Ren heard a large boom and looked towards the forest. A gigantic scorpion chased after a girl with red hair. She seemed to handle it well enough for a person on the retreat, dodging blow after blow the scorpion sent, only to finally be brought down as she took a rather heavy hit from the beast resulting in her being tossed to the group's side.

"Pyrrha!" Jaune yelled in worry as he hopped down from the tree to help his partner. The boy wore white armour, protecting his vital organs and a sword loosely resting in a sheath strapped to his hip.

The girl with red hair, wearing amazon armour got back on her feet and yelled back, "Jaune!"

"Great, the gangs all here," Yang said sarcastically, "Now we can die together!"

"Hmph." Ruby grunted. "Everyone, take the relics! We don't need to fight these things!" Even she could see that the two Grimm in front of them were far superior to most of her current allies. In a one-versus-one, her allies wouldn't stand a chance. Right now, their current objective was to get a relic and make it back to the cliff.

The group ran for the cliff, dodging any feathers the Nevermore rained on their position. Eventually, they reached the bridge leading to the cliffside. It wasn't far but Ruby realised there was no way they could cross without the bridge being destroyed. Probably while they were on it.

She needed a plan and she needed it now.

But she couldn't. Ruby controlled puppets, not people. If one got injured she couldn't just take them to her workshop and fix them up again. This was different.

'I need to do something!' Her brain screamed at her for an answer but all she could focus on was her fear.

Yang rested a hand on Ruby's shoulder. "Ruby, we need to move."

She bit her thumb. "No, we can't. If we're on that bridge while the Nevermore has aerial superiority we're finished."

Yang smiled. She felt proud that her little sister was thinking things through. She was smarter than Yang could ever hope to be. "So what do you wanna do?"

Ruby sighed before addressing the waiting students. "Alright! Here's what's gonna happen!" Ruby's voice commanded, "Jaune, was it?" The blonde boy nodded.

"Take the redheaded girl, Pyrrha, I think, and the other two, Ren and Nora. You all must separate the Deathstalker from the Nevermore. We'll never escape as long as the Nevermore has control over that bridge, but we can't kill the Nevermore if that overgrown scorpion is on our flank!"

The four nodded and set off to distract the creature of Grimm. Ruby just hoped they could handle it.

Now for the others.

"We," she said, gesturing to the other three and herself, "have the pleasant task of killing that bird."

"How will we do that?" Blake asked. The others nodded, keeping themselves behind cover.

Ruby rubbed her head in frustration, "I need you all to ground it for a few seconds."

For Jaune, he knew he wasn't a good fighter like the others. But he didn't need to fight, he needed to lead. Ruby needed a distraction so he would give her a distraction.

"Ren, shoot that stinger! We need to take out it's main source of attack!" he yelled, veins in his neck showing how stressed he actually was.

"On it." The ninja sprinted forward, shooting the tail of the creature as he did so. Ren leapt onto the appendage, using his guns to create as much damage as possible.

The Deathstalker didn't like that too much, screeching in pain before launching the man into a stone wall.

"Ren!" Nora exclaimed worriedly.

But Jaune was to focused on one thing. The stinger! It was dangling like a ripe fruit about to fall.

"Pyrrha!" he commanded.

"Done." Her shield thrown, it cut the stinger from the tail before flying back into the girl's arm.

Jaune took a careful look again, noticing that the Deathstalker was crying in pain from being pierced by its own stinger.

"Nora, nail it!"

"Heads up!" the orange haired girl notified Pyrrha. In response, she allowed Nora to jump onto her shield, launching her high into the sky. Hammer struck stinger and down the Deathstalker went, disintegrating into black dust.

Yang shot bullets in the face of the avian Grimm. Eventually, one of them struck hard, aggravating it enough for it to turn its attention to the blonde. The Nevermore flew quickly to despatch Yang but the girl was already one step ahead. She used her place of elevation on the tree to jump straight into the mouth of the Grimm, slamming bullet after bullet down the creature's throat.

"I. Hope. You're. Hun-Gry!" Yang tore through the soft insides, causing it to fall to the wayside.

A white blur dashed past her. Weiss froze the giant raven on the ground with a large patch of ice. With her first task finished, she rushed back to complete her second.

Blake used her ribbon to attach a makeshift slingshot to a ruin, with Yang performing the same action with the other end of the ribbon.

With Ruby in place, Weiss made a glyph and turned to her, "You are absolutely crazy! This is absolutely crazy!"

Ruby grinned a little and said, "Better be careful then, I hear crazy loves company."

The red woman was launched from the glyph with overwhelming speed, unleashing her scythe upon the birds neck. There wasn't a cliff for the girl to drag the monster up, so she had to make do.

Scythe in hand, Ruby sped towards the Grimm, decapitating the Nevermore in a swift motion.

She sighed, inwardly thankful that she didn't have to reveal her puppetry. Ruby noticed that the four sent to deal with the Deathstalker were apparently successful. Now they could make their way peacefully to the edge of the cliff.

But just as Ruby turned to rejoin her fellow students, growls filled the air.

'Beowolves?' she mentally questioned. That was before she saw the sheer amount. Dozens of beowolves revealed themselves, like dark shadows escaping the forest.

Too many, she winced.

Ruby looked back at her sister and the other's behind her. They too had begun to notice.

"Ruby, get out of there!" Yang yelled.

'Even if we were to run to the cliff there's no way we'd make it in time!' Her mind ran through various scenarios before leading to the one with the highest chance of success.

She closed her eyes and growled slightly.

This wasn't how it was supposed to go.

'No,' Ruby thought, 'not at all what I had planned. But I knew sooner or later people would know.'

Her eyes blazed at the Grimm running towards her.

"Might as well be now." The rose noticed bullheads flying to their position but they would come too late. "Yang! Take the others and get to those bullheads! I'll be right behind you!"

The blonde brawler looked at her sister in disbelief. "What are you saying?! I can fight!"

"No time to argue, now just go!" Ruby started to walk towards the wave of wolves. Then she began to run.

"If these Grimm wanna die so bad, it's my duty as a Huntress," compartments in her stomach began to open up revealing hundreds of aura strings, "To HELP. THEM. ALONG!"

Rose petals smothered the battlefield, covering Ruby from view, until it was revealed that there were figures beside her. Around twenty of them to be exact, all with the same red cloaks on.

Time for her children to kill.
